Traditional Bowhunting white-tailed deer - Buck down

Picking up the blood trail from a nice little 7-point. Heard him crash and went in to recover him, should have waited a bit longer. Had to make a second shot on him when he tried getting up. Thats bowhunting. Lesson here was even if you hear them crash, give yourself a few hours. The first shot on him was from my saddle at 30 yards, follow up shot was within 10 yards. After the second arrow was...

No deer, just a turkey battle in the woods on this early fall evening sit. Stay tuned for more real raw traditional bowhunting action to go down. Will be back up in the trees on the next one. Thanks for taking the time to watch.

    As far as I can tell, the HIT system with a collar is one of the strongest front end systems available. This is a great way of installing IF you aren't using other broadheads / field points, or have measured the shoulder depth of what you shoot. (Note: installing the insert too shallow is way worse than too deep. Question: Do you know if the material or quality of the collar makes a difference? I have definitely had arrows without the collar fail at that point, and right now I am using a much smaller, lighter and cheaper version from eBay, but haven't had any failure are other tests of effectiveness. Theory: Any collar provides a level of compression at the tip that the arrow system badly needs, but I'm not really sure that Iron Will or titanium or others make and difference except in cases where you are likely to have a failure at another point... Meaning, you just need enough reinforcement in the weakest area to move the failure point/weakest link elsewhere. Anything behind this is overkill and extra weight.

    • @madbearproductions8375
      @madbearproductions8375 4 місяці тому

      I have only used one type of collar at this time. My guess is any collar reinforcement would benefit your arrow. Easton just released their own ‘HIT’ collar, much similar to an ironwill. I will look at the ebay ones you mentioned. Thanks for checking out the video.

    pretty sure the HIT system is designed this way one purpose, so any variations in broadheads and points between manufacturers means they can all still be tightened down till the point is tight to the carbon.

    Excellent video. I believe in using the low temp blue colored “ hot melt”. It very seldom fails. Plus with any insert it can be heated and rotate the insert by heating the point, not the carbon shaft.

      For the 340 spine original axis you need the size ‘C’ collars from their site. Outside diameter of your arrows are 0.267. There is a size chart on their website to double check. Good luck.

    I understand your theory. But. I have had and shot the axis pretty extensively now. I have not had the end chip or flare like yours. The reason i feel that mine has not is because i do not let my field points become loose. If your field points are loose just enough. there is enough movement in them to cause that issue. Put wax or a drop of blue loctite on the thread. And you will no longer have that issue. Wether the base of the field point is seasted fully onto the insert end or not. It is tight against the end of the shaft. I used hot melt and epoxy with the same results. I use the griv method(George Ryals) to instal with hot melt.

    • @madbearproductions8375
      @madbearproductions8375 2 роки тому

      I like your input. And thanks for watching and commenting. I agree that you do not want to have loose field points on your arrows. For myself, thread engagement and having an impact collar to help everything stay together, is important. There are pros and cons with each system. Thanks and have fun out there. Compound or traditional?

    Thanks great video i learned a few things. I did this once before with Muzzy broadheads to align my vanes and blades up but I used epoxy instead of a melt type glue, I let them dry overnight and everything got glued together and i had to heat everything up in the tip of the shaft to get the broadheads out from excess glue. This was on FMJ's so i'm sure it compromised the carbon with the high heat. Lesson learned the hot melt is the way to go thanks. The other problem I had was I went to put in field tips and now they wouldnt screw all the way down. The screw lengths were different Long story short I Guess you gotta check your screw lengths before you start and make sure they are the same length. Great vid thanks!

    The green tool that comes with the arrow to set hit insert is allowing for the use of the BAR system ( broad head adapter ring) witch once fitted over the end of the arrow easily takes up the gap that stops the bh screwing tight up to the arrow.

    • @madbearproductions8375
      @madbearproductions8375 2 роки тому

      The BAR system actually adds to the gap. The insert is, generally speaking, always going to be set too deep for standard threads. And then adding the BAR over the end only increases that depth. They stop the broadhead from coming in direct contact with the arrows carbon end, but it doesnt address the issue of not having full contact/engagement with the threads/insert. Appreciate you taking the time to add some feedback.

    Odd way to go about all of that. You used a carbon arrow, then made your own feathers???? Also, with traditional bows, the larger the feather the better and quicker it stabilizes. Those tiny feathers are working against you. Also you used the wrong glue for carbon arrows. That should have been a flexible hot melt, not like ferile tite. It’s too hard and too much trouble if you want to remove an insert.

    • @madbearproductions8375

      Watch the slow-motion video I put on my channel. It is the exact same arrow set up, just with different fletchings. Same 4-fletch, 3” RW configuration. I found them to be faster than longer fletchings, so your point is invalid to me. Thanks for the feedback though. You build arrows your way when you do them. Appreciate it. Take care.
