    Stop IT! We are PHYSICIANS. Lots of people claim to be healthcare professionals but only MDs and DOs are considered physicians. I did not attend healthcare professional school. I attended medical school. BTW: Nursing home experience sorts out if the applicant is compassionate or not. I served on the application board at UTMB briefly and I weeded out people who I thought weren't up to the academic rigors of medical school and I also weeded out applicants who came off as arrogant, power hungry, and manipulative. I was successful in medical school because I worked very hard all the time and was willing to pay my dues. I entered medical school at a time when women were not commonly accepted to medical school. There were 9 women in my graduating class of 110, evenly distributed from top to bottom. We were accepted on merit, not quota. If you really want to get into medical school, you might want to attend an undergrad university that is associated with a medical school. Medical students who pretend to be physicians based on positioning themselves as shadowing suck-ups are annoying as hell. Another piece of advice? Ask physicians what they love about being a physician and what do they hate. Consider becoming a forest ranger.

    as someone with several surgeries and illnesses, these is very bothersome. why have MD if PA is going to act on being MD without all the education an MD has to go through. If i have surgery, I want a certified surgeon and one who has had lots of experience. assisting surgeon, thats fine. Seeing family practice if not trying to be a specialist is fine. I have a PA in the family doc i like that is actually a better doctor than the real doctor. so not saying all are a bad thing. not at all. Newbies, i never see personally, due to my health. but surgeries itself, I have to make sure its my actual surgeon or doctor doing it, and not a PA. And ask that no PA do my reading finals of my radiations cause they were wrong so many times, and I am pretty sure the radiology dept was allowing PA's to read them in that field vs full doctors in that field cause too many times they were wrong.

      So, you have no idea who did your reads (they’re signed btw lol), but you just assume a PA read them (only when they’re wrong) to fulfill your bias? 😂

      wait til you find out that medical students close sutures, also sometimes assist in surgery, as well as residents (still learning) assisting if not doing majority of the surgery depending on their year level. you'll be surprised as to how much an attending does and doesn't do lol

    Don't agree with the cc comment at all. Was told by many adcoms that cc work was fine. I personally felt that a lot of the cc courses were harder than my large t20 uni. I think the advice here is out of touch or maybe something Texas schools feel given his background.

    it's literally impossible to have that many hours as a junior in COLLEGE, especially considering the fact that being an EMT requires a high school diploma which means that she has accumulated 10,000 hours over 2 years..

    No mention of how african americans have significantly higher drop out rates and residency leave rates? How many choose less demanding specialties? How, even when practicing, they commit more malpractice? No mention how all of this is a direct result of affirmitive action??

    How did you become a PA as a white male? I made the Deans list 7 times had 2 years of medical experience in dentists offices, hospitals, nursing homes, and home healthcare facilities with a letter of recommendation from the head professor of Virology and lead researcher of Co-vid 19 in my state and couldn't even get an interview!!! Are you from a wealthy family of doctors??? I even got a 3.5 GPA and took Virology, Bacterial Infectious Diseases, and the Anatomy dissection lab during my undergrad and received a 144 credit bachelors of general studies from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In addition to all the prerequisites, I also have published 4 books, have a stack of certifications in healthcare from a US government training program took humanities and, gender studies, and community leadership. What was it exactly that made you stand out? All the PA schools I know of only accept minorities and women that did the bare minimum!!!

    • @waliahwyatt2659
      @waliahwyatt2659 Рік тому

      so sad to hear you say this, the majority of people that get into PA schools are white women based on statistics...NOT minorities..i have no idea where you are getting your information from...PAs are 70% white with the remaining 30% made up of all other ethnicities...you are uninformed about the profession which is why you are likely not getting interviews/acceptances. Most people who get into PA school (white women) have significantly more than 2 years of clinical experience. In my class alone we had a Pathologist assistant, several EMTs, nurses, occupational therapist, Respiratory therapist, with the average health care hours being 10K..

      Wow your background is crazy awesome and don’t see why you wouldn’t qualify for the program the time that you applied. Are the medical house direct patient care? If so, then yeah I don’t see why they wouldn’t accept you. Dress like Madea and you should definitely get accepted!!! Lol no I’m joking but maybe you should ask the schools that you have applied to why you wasn’t the chosen one.

      You made this ignorant comment and still wonder why you’re not a PA. Especially considering that minorities make up such a small percentage in the PA career. If you didn’t get then check in with schools you applied to instead of being an entitled racist brat with a generic “this why I’m special, woe is me” backstory.

    I'm going to hit two points in this comment: why I've been told time and time again that I can't shadow, and what I recommend to get shadowing. I applied one point to anywhere from 50 to 100 different doctor's offices writing letters, attaching my resume, and practicing different ways to ask for shadowing. I probably heard back from 10% of those offices and of that 10% they all said the same thing. "We only allow shadowing once you're in med school." Maybe it's the office manager intercepting the letter and they don't understand this process, or maybe it's just a polite way to say thanks but no thanks. Either way, you can't really correct them and expect that they're going to change their mind. Now with that said, my advice for shadowing is first to start with people you know. The better you know the doctor the more likely they're going to let you shadow them. After that, you need to network with people you know. Maybe you don't know the doctor but you do know the patient. Maybe you know the office manager or one of the nurses who work with the doctor. Finally, cold calling, emailing, and sending letters Is your final resort. I personally think a letter has a nice personal touch and is less likely to get deleted or spam filtered before being read. And being able to briefly and succinctly ask while quickly demonstrating that you've done your homework on the doctor is better than "may I please?" Also, to avoid confusion about clerkship versus shadowing, I don't recommend spelling out that shadowing isn't clinical clerkship. But perhaps you can define what shadowing is so that the doctor knows that you know that shadowing doesn't involve interacting with patients. Or just assume that a "no" is a "no" even if for the wrong reasons.
