Outta money, running out of time, trying to hang on.....
I hope to show you that RC can be done on a very tight budget! I'm on SSDI Disability income and military pension. Neither is enough money to live on, much less have a hobby THIS expensive. But I've been in the hobby since 1982 (I'm OLD!!).
I've picked up many tricks and tips the along the way...
THAT'S what I'd like to share with you!

#tamiya Knight Hauler build - after my leaf mod and Teri Wilde's axle mod

I moved the leaf springs under the frame rails, then did Teri Wilde's mod, filing the axle ends, near the steering knuckles for maximum steering!

Not by WEAK 80T motors.... but with a 35T Crawler motor, AND a Gear Reduction Unit. I've talked about this for years. It's time to finally put it into practice! #tamiya #GrandHauler #1/14th #injora #beier Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research....

Showing how well 250,000wt diff grease works in a M-Chassis Diff.
Переглядів 3192 місяці тому
I filled the diff with Team Associated 200k diff grease, then applied a thin bead of hot glue around the diff case before screwing on the diff cover. 3 years later, nothing has leaked out! By using hot glue, it gives a positive seal, but if you need to get into your diff again, hot glue releases almost immediately with Isopropyl Alcohol.

I'm BACK! I hope... You will decide if I'm worthy. Tamiya makes great RCs. But also have a dubious reputation for having sloppy suspensions!! 😡🤬😡 I have a trick to nearly eliminate steering slop in Tamiya's most popular chassis. .... SCX10 II Comanche, SECOND attempt at that Rock Wall, with Knockoff Hyrax Tires!
It's coming along 👍
Slowly but surely.... it's too cold to paint the Cab, so I've been busying myself with all sorts of silly things! 😊
Attempting 4K video....
that'll be much better turning radius 👍 it's good to see other people ideas and ways of doing things without throwing money away on Lesu axles 🙂
That's the plan! 😊 Thanks Mate!
I subbed 🤘🏻
Thanks 😊
I prefer marine grease
Smoothest factory shocks ever!!
Nice rebound damping too... very nicely tuned... 👍
Thanks Teri! This is my TD2 Astute. One of TWO Christmas gifts from the TamiyaClub Forum! They won't tell me the second one..... But it's 24lbs, and arriving tomorrow! 😊 The shocks on this kit comes standard with TRF X-Rings and Titanium shafts! Really premium. NOT a single bushing or JIS screw in the whole kit!
Thats a great tip!
Just like a posi unit.
I don’t own a grand hauler, but I watched anyway😂. Definitely dig the music! 😝
I appreciate that! We were never going to set the world on fire... but we had fun.
You know, Thad, these Gear Reduction Units were originally designed for Crawlers. They 'sandwich' between any 540/550 motor and any gearbox. 😊
that's good resistance for 250,000 grease.... I think someone said 1,000,000wt grease is better for the 1/14 scale trucks because they slip much slower than the M Chassis.
You're absolutely right, Teri. At least 500k for Semi Trucks, because they're heavier, and the diff case and gears are smaller. I've got 1 million in my Grand Hauler.
Nice tips and music Carmine
Glad you think so! Thanks Dirk, I appreciate that.
What is this unit??
It's the Injora 3-1 Planetary Gear Reduction Unit. Mounts between the motor and drivetrain.... or in this case, the 3-speed gearbox of my Smokey and the Bandit Kenworth. Essentially allowing to keep a high power, high torque, low turn motor.... And still have incredibly slow crawl ability.
@@CarmineRC gotcha. I thought it was a crawler or something
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers no... one of my 3 Semi Trucks that I bought the very short time I had money.
Read the description to see how I did this....
Hi Carmine, nice to hear you're back. Hope you're doing well
Thank you! You too!
No comment about the Roadrunners? 😅
@@CarmineRC I'll wait for the things to come. Most intersted in videosvabout the Unimog and the semi
I'm looking forward to a better RC future!! Join me! 😊
Great tips, Carmine, thanks for showing! Yeah, the steering is one of the most important TT-02/B upgrades in my opinion, it just makes for a much better handling buggy and more fun to drive. I have to admit, I went with aluminium aftermarket parts for mine, but if I do another build, this would be a great option!
Thanks Mads! I'm going to see what other Tamiya vehicles this will also work on.... Really, any steering links that can handle a 6mm hole drilled into it, without weakening it. It truly is tight!
Those were some great hacks man! Good to see you working on Rc’s again and sharing your knowlage with all of us! 🙌😎👍🏻✌🏼🍻 oh yeah , excellent choice of music too! Pulled straight out of 80’s greatest hits!!😛
Thanks Robby, and thanks for the encouragement. This is the first time in almost 10 years that I made a VIDEO, and not a slide show..... I hope it came out clear enough. And thanks for the charger!! I actually got two.... yours stays in the car, being the perfect size for charging on the go. God Bless!
@@CarmineRC Your very welcome dude!
Steering slop is a big issue with a lot of Tamiya kits. But your method takes a lot of that out... 👍 Great work and pleased to see you back at the bench 👌
Thanks Teri, my friend! My Trucks are still stalled, because of missing bits... But I realised that there's other things I can do, and I had to put something out, before everyone forgets me. Even if only a couple come back, I'll know they're real this time. Thank you for all your help!
😂 To do the second part, the bridge.... you want to use 15MM screws, not 25mm!! 25mm screws go through the bearings....
🙉
Yep, I've got a couple you can choose from, I can put it in a box with a few bits and bobs and send it out to ya... You have my email 👍
Think I may have one buddy. What’s your address? You can send it to my email address in my details
REALLY? Thanks, buddy!!!
Carm my email is on my about page get ahold of me
My favourite thing to play on a Yamaha keyboard that I had many, many years ago was Mull of Kintire. I love singing more than anything. I'm looking to buy the first instrument I ever played back when I was 12, but I've got so much going on in life that it would just gather dust, I go to Jam Night at my local pub most Sunday evenings. I could listen to music all day, and to watch these guys play is brilliant. Move on Carm, we're all still here, and we've all done daft things. It's behind you now. And I've got that Scania 8x4 to finish... ONWARDS!!
Teri, my love for music is eternal!! I love playing, singing, writing, producing music. Some people might get the "moving into love" in the second half. I hope that they do, because music is much more emotional than technical. Understanding that, will make anyone better! I hope you sing with the second half of this video, me mate! 😊
That's true, Mate! That's the drummer in our Band. I'm about moved on... learned my lesson in possibly the most violent, aggressive way possible. Lost my wife, she left me, lost most of my oldest friends, and my best friend on UA-cam, Mark Bryan.... So getting over it has not been easy, at all. Music has brought me back to centre, mostly. But I lost so much. This wasn't just another cock up.... And I would love to build even the most basic Scania.... but I won't be able to afford anything new for the unforseen future. But I've still got two other Tamiya Trucks to build, and most of the chassis and wiring on my Smokey and the Bandit rig to rebuild. Thanks for being open-minded, for your support and encouragement. 🙏
And I too, hope you sing to the second half, where I play the song all the way through. 🎶 😉
He he, very cool, Carmine! It's a lovely tune, not my genre in music, but I can hear it sounds beautiful! I'm no musician, I once bought a guitar, I don't actually think I ever even attempted to play it, I reckon it is probably still somewhere in the house to this day, ha ha! Best I don't touch it, at least... What you up to on the RC projects? I see a VW van body on the floor there... 😉
And happy birthday! How could I miss that, ha ha, I hope you're having a good one, Carmine!
You didn't miss much, Mads.... I'm F'in OLD!! 😂 There are multiple projects, unfinished from when my daughter moved back in almost 4 years ago... That I'm dying to get back to soon. Including 3 Tamiya Semi Trucks!!
The VW Bus doesn't have a 210mm chassis to go under it, and no hope of affording a chassis any time soon.
Nobody doubted you were in a band. Just that you took those videos and lied about it. Happy birthday dude. Bring back your RC content
Thad.... I have to live with that terrible decision, and I'm not dealing with it well. I fell into the mother of all rabbit holes. The only good thing out of that is, I've got a glaring, shining example of what NOT to do for my grandkids, and what can happen if they lie... RC is returning. In the background you can see my workbench, in my own dedicated hobby room, for the first time in almost 5 years! (That didn't help either)
@@CarmineRC I get it man. I’ve had to do some soul searching. I’m closing my shop after 5 years, I just can’t do it . Haven’t made a profit in at least 2 years and I’ve spent almost all my inheritance trying to keep afloat. Sucks but is what it is. I’m slowly getting back into RC’s and I still am gonna do repairs and custom builds out of the house.
@IowaBudgetRCBashers That's horrible! I'm sorry. I've had to live on SSI disability and veteran's pension.... NEITHER allow me a sustainable life. My inheritance, almost 3 years ago is gone as well, but at least I have a couple of Tamiya Semi Trucks to build, and 7 other projects that I haven't been able to finish since my daughter took over our old apartment. She finally moved out, to Mississippi, 1500 miles away, and took my Greyson with her! 💔 I'm trying to look up... I hope you can do the same.
@IowaBudgetRCBashers And, my my wife left me. So as far as learning lessons, this was the cruelest one ever. I learned.....
Hey Carmine! First off, stop 🛑 beating yourself up! You are no longer the village idiot regardless of what you think! 2nd- that was truly an amazing piece that you played! You’re right, it’s a truly lovely song. Your also right on what you said regarding poor musical instructors being the reason people give up on playing or taking up a new instrument. Obviously you must of had a great teacher. You are an exceptional musician to my ears. God bless buddy! Remember, you can forgive yourself and move on. Your already forgiven by the one that truly matters. Don’t let the ones who haven’t hold you back! Take care👊🏼✌🏼😎
Robby, I had 2 of the best teachers possible. We didn't dredge through a year of only theory and chords... which would bore the average person to tears! I'm trying to move past my mistakes. I really am. Thank you and God Bless you!
I HOPE you'll watch all of this..... But I actually start playing at 1:46

Working perfectly. Acts like positraction!
I was there at that airshow!! What an amazing aircraft!!!
You are awesome the most caring, kind person ived ever met in my life..

All on your knees hail the mighty Blackbird
The fact the guys at Skunk Works designed her with slide-rulers on a drafting table with very little to zero help from any kinda computers to say nothing of modern ones just blows my mind. They probably had no idea at the time that they were in process of making the crown-jewel of aviation that has remain tried n true for decades to come n is _still_ the reigning champ. Just unreal.
what a beautiful piece of Avionics! Sucks ill never see one in operation (Hopefully They Do One More Flight with one so i can see it)
Saw the YF-12 take off, do a couple of fly-bys then taxi by us in 1965. The ‘71 was beginning testing at Groom Lake but that was unknown to all of us. It’s a design that will remain iconic as long as there are airplanes.
MAGA!!!

So bad ass!!!!
I fueled the SR-71 from 1978 to 1982. Went back to fueling the modern military jets as a contractor in 2019. The SR is still the most awesome aircraft I've ever been around.
Look at this aircraft any way you want. Pure badass.
Lots of great ideas. It's always nice to see work arounds that improve performance and dependability. Nice work man. 👍👍🏆🏆
Thanks. I'm always thinking 🤔..... sometimes it's not good!!
