David Goggins 4 x 4 x 48 Challenge
The David Goggins 4 x 4 x 48 challenge is simple. Run 4 Miles, every 4 Hours, for 48 Hours. I had no idea how hard this would actually be. It's only 4 miles, but with a total distance of almost 80km. I very quickly realized that 4 hours moves very fast if you have to do it for 2 days. I lined up my friend who lives in South Africa, and we tackled this bad boy together. I really enjoyed this challenge, and knowing someone is doing it with you makes it SO much better.

Dresden Marathon - Coming back from the dead
Переглядів 31814 днів тому
Dresden Marathon is a beautiful marathon course. You get some city centre, neighborhoods, and parks. The Germans know what they are doing and everything was perfect. From the race expo to the pacemakers to the aid stations. I was in Dresden 18 years ago, almost exactly half of my life ago, and it was great to be back. The atmosphere was awesome with people next to the road the whole time, cheer...
Stupid Running Questions - Don't ask runners this
Переглядів 12721 день тому
We have all been asked stupid running questions. And the same questions and comments keep on repeating. Did you win, running is bad for your knees, etc. I sometimes get angry or frustrated if I have to explain why I do run "a lot". But we all have friends that run and some that don't. So I keep the deep and detailed chat to the runners, and the calmed down version to the ones that don't.
RUNNING A MARATHON IN A SUIT - Hradecky Maraton

I ran a marathon in a suit, it was a Sunday, so very appropriate I think. I ran my local marathon in Hradec Kralove and wanted to spice things up a bit. It was a lot of fun, and I put a lot of smiles on people's faces. They asked me if I am going to a wedding, where is my wife, is it a bet, and why don't I have black shoes to make it proper legit. The suit was good and I didn't have any problem...
Ultra trail Dinarides - Kings Race 100 miles

Right, so I went to Croatia to try and conquer the 100 miles at the Ultra trail Dinarides race, the Kings race route. I was ready for the 7 000m of vertical gain, but I very soon realized that this was not a normal ultra trail race. The terrain was brutal, I moved very slowly, and I had never seen so many rocks in my life. The nights, yes nights, 2 of them, were long, and the day felt short. I ...
Am I Ready For a 100 Mile Race?
Переглядів 1022 місяці тому
How do you know if you are ready to run 100 miles in the mountains? The simple answer is you don't. We can train as hard as we can, but we will never truly know, especially if it is your first one. But we can go through the necessary steps to make sure that we can get to the start line and at least give ourselves the best possible chance to reach the finish line.
I Missed 2 Weeks of Training! Now What?
Переглядів 672 місяці тому
We have all missed training for a week or two. Injury strikes, holiday hits hard, it happens to all of us. You immediately go into full stress mode, cause those two weeks are gonna mess up everything you have done up till now. But, you are wrong. 2 Weeks is nothing, and you can relax, get healthy, or drink some more beer while sitting on the beach. Here are some things to think about when those...
Tips For Beginner Runners
Переглядів 6523 місяці тому
You are new to running, a true beginner. You have entered a race, but what now. There are many things to think about, but the most important thing is to just start running, consistently. Here are some tips to make you fall in love with running and to keep running, every single week.
Why is the long run important?
Переглядів 5394 місяці тому
The long run is massively important. It replicates those race day feelings, by spending hours on your feet. You want to prepare your body and mind and legs to get used to how you will feel when race day rolls around. Most runners dread the long run. It's long and hard and sometimes lonely. But it's the one day of the week you cannot miss. So lace up, and go and smash that long run!
Flintstone runs a half marathon - Olomouc half

Right, time to spice things up a bit. I mean, who doesn't want to dress like Fred Flintstone, shout yabadabadoo, and run a half marathon in Olomouc. Racing is not always about RACING, and sometimes it's just about having fun. This was fun, a lot of fun. Running through the streets of Olomouc in an orange dress, lively crowds everywhere, and seeing the smiles on faces as they realize Fred Flints...
Failure sucks - Why I failed my sub 3h marathon attempt, TWICE
Переглядів 1195 місяців тому
Let's be very honest, failing sucks. Big time. Yes we learn from mistakes bla bla bla, but failing hurts. In the end, after we calm down and think about everything again, we realize that the end goal is just the end. There is a whole process to go through to get to that end goal. And that is what we should embrace and enjoy, the whole process. The marathon will kick you in the nuts, that you ca...
Prague marathon - Why recovery time after a marathon is important
Переглядів 2946 місяців тому
Running a marathon takes a lot out of you. Recovery and slowly getting back to normal training is very important. But not if you are an idiot like me. I had this brilliant idea to run the Prague marathon only 2 weeks after my sub 3h attempt in Vienna. As you can imagine, it was a horrible idea. But hey, we learn some lessons and we come back stronger.
Vienna Marathon - Chasing a sub 3h finish
Переглядів 7176 місяців тому
This was my second attempt at a sub 3h marathon, this time at the Vienna Marathon. I was ready. Training went well, nutrition was tried and tested, and I felt that this was gonna be the one. Vienna is a beautiful city, but there is not always a lot of time to look around when having laser focus during the race. You always learn something new during the marathon, and oh boy did I learn some less...
Marathon race day essentials
Переглядів 1617 місяців тому
Marathon race day is just around the corner. The kit that you will wear is very important, and you need to choose everything very carefully. From shoes to shorts to gels. My racer day kit is dialed in, I've tested everything multiple times, and I trust it. The most important thing is comfort, and style of course. If you look fast, you feel fast, and you will be fast.
Sub 3h marathon fuelling plan
Переглядів 1057 місяців тому
Fuelling is a massive buzzword in the running world. Calories and sodium and water. When we run, we burn energy and a whole lot of other things, and we have to replace that. If not, you might as well not start your marathon. There are so many theories and studies of what we need and what works, but you have to figure that out yourself, test it, and stick to the plan. Sports gels and salt tablet...

awesome bro
thanks man 🙂
Great running man 🤩👏👏 I'm considering running Dresden next year. How was the course and the logistics?
Thanks man. Yea Dresden was awesome. The course is nice, you do run some parts twice, but at least not a full double loop, so its ok. And great atmosphere along the whole course. I would definitely recommend. Aid stations really good. Long tables with water and sports drink and coke. And tea for some reason, almost puked when I got that by accident once 🙂.
@vstarrunning Thank you! How many meters of elevation is it?
@@geirdahle7195 100m of elevation. Just one part where you have to get from the river up to a bridge, short hill. The rest is very flat. And they have pacemakers from the 3h group to 4h and maybe even more groups. I ran with the 3h30min group for a long time and the pacing was perfect.
Bravo. Very good Hrvatska!
great channel buddy, and great running
Thanks man. Yea always trying out some new races in new places, the best way to do it 🙂
Congratulations!
thanks 😉
🔥🔥🐐🐐👏👏
🤩
CONGRATS MATE!
thanks 🙃

Writing all these down to use later, thanks <3
Actually, you are the reason for one of them 🙂 So learn from your mistakes
Congratulations from Brazil. Awesome!
Very cool to hear the video made it all the way to Brazil 🙂. Thanks ;-)
Ek is bly jy het ten minste ordentlike skoene aan. Wil nie weet waar jy orals geskaaf het met die pak nie. Well done.
Die suit was legit, geen probleme. Die dag was darm koud gewees ook, so dit help.
👀👍
Awesome! Did you choose the suit specially to be OK for running or was it just a regular suit?!
My dad actually chose it, it was his suit that he wore in the '70s 🙂. Because I didn't want to mess up my suits. I read that you can actually buy running suits made out of lightweight material, crazy. But in the end I had no problems with the suit. Luckily it was a chilly day, so that helped a lot. And I wore short tights and a base layer top underneath to prevent chafing.
@@vstarrunning thanks! That's even cooler that it was vintage. Honestly, I'd wear a suit to parkrun over the winter if it was breathable fabric 😅 Maybe not a marathon
You're a beast. Classy beast.
I thank you sir 🙂
legend xD
diky for the sick intro bra 🙂
better to try and fail than never to give it a go at all...most of us normal humans would never ever even set foot on the startline. There is always next year
great performance, everyone who has tried a 100km race knows what a struggle it is. Big respect man!
Are those shirts from techical materials? For running? If they are can you tell me where did you buy it :)
yea for sure some technical material, I'm not that brave to do it in a sunday church cotton shirt 🙂. They are from Berghaus and Northfinder. I bought it a long time ago, so can't find it online now. But I would basically trust anything that is not from cotton, they are all good. I think they are more for hiking, but they work fine for me even on long runs.
Good job boss anyway, good luck with next one ! lets go
Thanks man. Yea we roll again next time 😉
Respek!
Halwe respek 🙂 But thanks, next time we try harder
👏👏🐐🐐
Great inspiration. I’m working on walking a half marathon every day. Thanks for the posting.
Just found your channel, love your vibes! Subscribed.
Thanks, I appreciate it 🙂 Yea I'm trying to not be too serious
Good luck man, I did a marthon recently and it was torture. my heart goes out to you lol
well done on that marathon. And yea, I'm pretty sure my race is also gonna be torture 🙂
Ek hou my duim vas and wait for the race report :)
thanks a lot 🙂

If your goal is just to finish a race, sure, training at that same distance kind of defeats the point of entering and paying for that race. But if you have time based goals, training that distance can absolutely be a benefit. It can help you develop race day strategies, understanding how hard you can or can't pace yourself. And you're most likely to PR on race day anyway as you'll be fully tapered and further trained than prior runs, so race day is still the ultimate test of your abilities. Heck, if you're doing something 10K or less I'd absolutely recommend distance days where you run (slower than race pace) further than your race distance.
True, but this was mainly aimed at real beginners, runners just trying to finish a race. But you are right, for 10k or less, of course there is no problem with running that same distance in training.
Hell yea brother. I like to purposely poop all over myself just prior to mile 5 in my long runs so I can truly be prepared for anything in the marathon.
Haha interesting approach, maybe ill try that too 😁
I did my secod half marathon last week and I loved it! I would love to run my first marathon next year. I'm planing to do base building for the rest of 2024 to get my weekly volume close to 50-60km.
That's awesome, well done. And good idea to build up slowely and not rush to the marathon. You will enjoy it way more that way. Good luck and enjoy it
You South African? What country do you live, looks like Eastern Europe?
yes I am 😉 I live in the Czech Republic
Nice video. Based on that threshold pace and your long run I reckon you would’ve hit your sub3 goal. How did you go?
thanks 🙂Yea that's also what I thought. But........ check out my Vienna race video to see how it went 😉 ua-cam.com/video/078MeEGscuk/v-deo.htmlsi=HjfU0LKUh8vwBEo3
Love it mate!
thanks man. yea that was fun 🙂
What is wrong with these youtubers ??? No wonder only 4% of all male marathon runners in the whole world can run a marathon under 3hrs...for the women...its 1% .... 😂😂😂
you'll get there! You can't let "being a pussy" stop you - if that was the case i would never do anything! You going to incorporate andy strength work? I hate gym stuff and never do it but I always suspected it might make a big difference. Good luck next time out
we all feel like that sometimes i guess. Yea I'll for sure start doing some strength stuff, cause the increase in salt intake didn't work, so have to try something else.
Everything is so green at the moment, very pretty!
dis cool om deur die jaar op dieselfde plekke te hardloop en sien hoe dit verander
Nice shots at Hrádek u Nechanic. <3
yea it's awesome that you can just freely run around castles here in CZ
Great running and congrats on the PB! Sorry to see you didn’t quite make it this time - but it’s going to happen I’m sure! Bet it’s quite mentally challenging when you’re running the required pace according to your watch, but because of the busyness of a city marathon/GPS you have to go even faster to do it. I’ve struggled with cramps too - it may be conditioning of your legs rather than an electrolyte imbalance, although there’s no way of knowing for sure 🤷🏻♂️
yea i messed it up, and its such a stupid mistake, cause we all know that happens in a city with buildings. Lessons learnt. Yea I'm gonna have to start doing some strength stuff, it's time :-). There wasn't a 3h pace group, which is weird for a big marathon like that, so it was all up to me to hit the right paces, and I really struggled with that, couldn't catch some rhythm the whole day. Good luck with your sub3 again man, show me how it's done!!
@@vstarrunning I wouldn’t say that - running a bit conservatively in the first few kms/miles can work in your favour, but I guess there’s a tipping point. Yeah strength work could be the deal breaker - it’s something I’ve reluctantly introduced as I know it’s good for me (in running and in life!). I could definitely be stronger though… so we’ll see how I hold up! Yeah that is weird not to have a pacer - also difficult when you can’t find a rhythm. And thank you, I’ll give it my best shot!
Hi I was also running in Vienna this year. Ws nice to relive the race through your video! well done, you got cramps but you brought a PB home anyway. Hope you had fun this is what matters at the end. I also missed my A goal (sub 2:40) but still improve my PB by almost three mn. Cheers
Thanks :-) Yea so you know the feeling, frustrated to not get the job done, but still a PB, so we probably have to be happy with that. Great run, we will come back stronger!
Just need to nail the electrolytes (maybe salt capsules), and sub 3hr is almost a guarantee. Marathons are hard, there are days you can do everything right....but it doesn't matter. It's why I love the half-marathon, I can get tons wrong and still have a great race. I mess up one part of a marathon race and it turns into a disappointment.
that is what is frustrating, cause I thought that my gels and salt tabs plan was fine, but maybe the next marathon I'll go even harder on both. But we learn some lessons each race, come back stronger 🙂 Yea I always say that up to the half, running is fun, anything more than that is hard work with a lot of things that can go wrong. But, a bad day on the roads is better than a good day in the office ;-)
@@vstarrunning I run self supported and switch bottles at the half, but I take in over 4k mg of sodium. When I do Chicago this year, I have to totally redo my hydration/fueling strategy since my understanding is Chicago doesn't allow bringing in your own bottles to put into a vest. But potentially does allow for bottles in a running belt? Seems odd, but I suspect it's still a rule from the Boston bombing 10 years ago. If I get a bib for Boston 2025, I'll hopefully have my new hydration/fueling sorted out, because they don't allow vests at all.
I'm planning to take nearly 4k mg of sodium over approx 3:15hr. Covered by 4 bottles (2 scoops of tailwind and 1 nuun tablet per bottle) which is 310+310+300X4, and 2 sleeves of Clif Bloks (200mg total) for a grand total of 3880mg. Which also works out to nearly 300g of carbs. I run self supported, and my spouse hands me 2 fresh bottles at the half. I sweat...a lot. And I find mild amounts of dehydration really prevent me from finding the last gear at 32k. Think I have it down to 800ml per half as being the right number, and if the day is hot/humid I can always grab extra fluids on course. The extra weight I carry obviously is a negative, but considering I have a nearly bullet proof hydration/fueling strategy I see the weight as a positive. Eventually I might need to switch to gels and on course hydration, but for now I enjoy skipping the chaos of the aid stations! Good-luck in your training!
Yea that is a lot of sodium, makes my plan look like a kid's party 🙂. I will see how it goes this time, and then see. I can easily go salt tablets more often, every 20/30 minutes. But I need to test that more and see how my body will react. The other option is to just run fast, get an elite entry, and then we can have our own bottles at all the aid stations 🙂🙂 But thanks for sharing, interesting to hear how other people approach their race and nutrition.
wow.. love your channel.. super underated
I find getting your nutrition right helps massively in minimising sickness as well as speed of recovery. You need to take care of your microbiome! Get Kefir/Kimchi into your daily diet - plenty fruit and Veg and protein as well as nuts/seeds and fish....sweet potatoes.....beets.....I've not been sick in 4/5 years! Odd sniffle yes, but not chest sick.
also a thing I need to focus on more, better food. But the biggest problem is having a kid from kindergarten in the house bringing home all kinds of mutated bugs 🙂
Love this! Also training for a sub-3 marathon and documenting my training on UA-cam… you have yourself a new subscriber 😊
thanks man. Yea its hard, long work to get ready for that sub3. We'll both smash it ;-). I'll follow your journey too, good luck!
@@vstarrunningYeah it’s a long road… so all about enjoying the process! You look a bit further ahead than me - when is your marathon? I’ve been doing 65-72k weeks, but looking to step it up in the summer/autumn. And nice one, cheers!
@@nrg_runs I tried last year in Milan and did a 3:05. This year in Vienna middle of April, so just doing the last work now. But I only have 1 shot a year, as I focus more on the ultra trail stuff. So it's all or nothing 🙂 I read that your marathon is later in the year, so you still have a lot of time. And that fast half marathon time is a good sign, you can build from that nicely
Getting close, then! Fingers crossed for Vienna - although with the work you’re putting in it shouldn’t be down to luck 😊 Yeah the half marathon was very encouraging, and can build slowly from here. I am doing a trail marathon in May, mind 😅
Very relatable haha
Deep down, we are all the same 🙂
😂😂😂so true....
Runners can be very stubborn sometimes - yes that’s very true. Nice video!
thanks man. Yea the stubborn part is good and bad sometimes 🙂
Telling it like it is. Much appreciated. Running on tired legs. It's what we do!
who needs fresh legs right 🙂
Do you include any strength/gym work in your weeks? On what days?
I don't, but I should. I tell myself every month that I should start doing it, but never get to it. It should be on the same day as the workout. Just so that you use the recovery/easy days for that, to recover. So in a perfect world, I would do the workout at 11am (my normal running time), and then the strength stuff at night.
Hey! Wanted to say THANKS for making this video. And another special THANKS thanks for starting your weeks on Mondays and measuring your distance in kilometres :) running youtube needs more of metric stuff.
haha 🙂 i mean honestly, who understands the imperial system right 🙂 thanks for the nice comment
@@vstarrunning *hem* definitely none of those imperial system users in these parts... (said the Americain) Do think the week should start on Monday though
I've been running approx 100km a week over the last 3 marathon blocks on 7days a week. And what has worked well for me in a simplistic sense is the following: Mon/Thurs Recovery Z1 HR around 90secs per km slower than MP. Tues/Fri are Endurance/Steady runs with strides, stay in Z2, work on form on the strides at the end of the run. Wed/Sat are workout days, with Wed usually being more intense and shorter and Sat being more race specific workouts. Sunday is the Long run where I will often alternative weeks of pure Z2 easy running and alternate week with Z2 easy and race specific sections injected after the 2hr mark. I'm 50 now, so I have to really moderate my intensity to be able to put in the mileage. Lots of self care, lots of good calories, lots of sleep. Good-luck with your training, and your content creation.
Thanks for sharing. I must say, I really need that 1 full day of not running at all. Just to forget about running for a day at least. But that's the cool thing about running, we all approach it differently and there is no right or wrong. But, I can really improve on the self care part of my week, I say that every month, more stretching, more strength, etc, but never get to it. Good luck with your running too ;-)
