I’m not native, so I’m not sure how much of a say I have in this, however, in my opinion, there are many different cultures around this world that clash with eachother. Just take Germany’s Hakenkreuz for example. Pretty sure in some other culture it’s a religious sign (and probably not even called Hackenkreuz), yet it’s banned in Germany. In the doc, you put in a clear definition and explained very well accordingly. However, if we apply the logic of what you just said in the doc to the example above, either the Hakenkreuz should not be banned, even if it’s an SS sign, or, the other party should not be allowed to use it. I’m not 100% certain if the faction with the sign has a lot of practitioners in Germany, and perhaps if they do they still have it at home, etc. but in public, it’s definitely banned (technically at home/private too, however no one sees you so….)- or maybe they don’t have the sign in Germany, but do practice their other traditions. It doesn’t matter, fact is, it means something different. You cannot apply the logic of one single culture of one single sign to everything. Feathers, do, in fact mean something different in WaCa, as it’s often used to be symbols from star clan. In Ancient Rome, and while it is in the past, it still is a standing fact, birds and feathers were also often seen as messengers, good luck, bad luck, signs of the gods. Especially eagle feathers because- well, Jupiter. In this video, the feathers were merely for character design, I suppose. It’s been a while since I’ve been part of the WaCa fandom, however, I remember- I think her name was feather tail? Actually was actively described as having two feathers behind her ear. The use of feathers might be different for each culture, and each fandom. If anything, it is more rude to apply something entirely in-related to one’s culture into one’s culture. It’s like a Christian saying that Jesus is the real thing to a Buddhist and insisting, that Buddha is Jesus or something like that. (I’m an atheist, so this might not be accurate, I think if I used ‘the God’ it would be more accurate, but Buddha is also a God, and Buddha is ‘their God’ so it’s likely to cause even more confusion…)

As a Native American, I don't particularly like all the comments putting down the importance of culture. But regardless, the feather information is rather new to the Warriors community and contains centuries of ignorance. That's the main reason to be upset, because of what wearing feathers signify both in and out of the culture. It's not the feathers themselves, but the erasure/genocide they represent. Not to mention the British writers of Warriors take ALOT of appropriation with Warriors, medicine men, double names, and the Tribe being a perfect example. As long as a true apology is made and the information is shared and respected, that's all that matters, no need to get defensive or ask for extreme measures unless the person remains ignorant. Regardless, I absolutely love this M.A.P. Everyone is incredibly skilled and did an amazing job. They all showcased amazing execution of anatomy, lighting, framing, designs, and fluid animation. I also love the comparison between Brambleclaw and Ivypool. Just remember everyone that you should be open minded and respectful, and that's all there is to it.

Alright so I'm white and have absolutely no say in this whatsoever so if I'm being stupid please tell me (kindly- I'm doing my best to be respectful). Obviously this is also long, long after this was posted so probably no one will ever see this anyways but I just wanted to get this out there because I don't totally understand where the drama is coming from. I'm just a bit confused about some of the things people are saying in the comments- like people are saying that "feathers shouldn't be banned from everyone because of one culture" and that "no Native American thinks that this is offensive" - but I was under the impression that the doc that is linked in the description was written by a Native American. Obviously they don't speak for every Native American but still, it shows that there are definitely people who are uncomfortable with this design choice- and they go into detail and explain why in a way that makes sense and is very logical. In addition, the complaints didn't seem to be about feathers in general, but just that specific placement of a feather near/behind the ear, because it's so reminiscent of Native American culture, and can feel a bit strange when used for just some design (as the person in the doc says). To me it seems like a relatively small change- just move the feather somewhere else or put something behind the ear -so I don't really understand why people seem so mad about someone not being comfortable with that one specific thing. I obviously don't think that we should be getting angry at anyone who does this unintentionally - it's just a mistake - I just don't get why people are mad about what seems to me like a very kindly and reasonably worded argument about why that *specific* placement of a feather can be a bit uncomfortable for some Native Americans.
