Should I run an open hood radiator exit, or are the cooling louvers better? Would adding a few aero spikes to the back of the roof, and raising the wing help? You may get more air to stick to the roof and you'll have cleaner flow to the wing.
Smoke through the radiator would have actually proved something….

This may sound odd, but I am looking at putting as pair of split center vents on my 2010 Tahoe. It's not a race car, but when it is triple didget heat In the summer I would love to give the engine as much relief from the heat as it can get when we are running it all day for work. I will also take whatever aero advantages it can give me on the highway as well & hopefully some intake air cooling as well while rolling due to reduced heat soaking of the air box & intake pipe.
When it rains or snow does hood luovers actually potentially damage the engine?
Most engine bays are pretty waterproof. But, you'll want to make sure your louver isn't directly above the spark plugs, distributor cap, or any other area that can hold a puddle of water around electricals. For example, my car has a kit that relocates the ECU, and that location allows water to pool on the harness connector under the louvers when placed for best airflow. The solution is a simple shield for the water to roll off of when parked. You probably also don't want rain soaking into an open air filter if you have an aftermarket intake. But you should avoid open filters under the hood regardless, simply because that's where all the heat is.

The positive pressure on the ducted system will make the air more dense. Dense air cools better. Possibly negate the reduced air flow effect on cooling. Exhalent video, thanks.
Test was made with the radiator at working conditions temperature (so around 100°C) or ambient temperature?

Would adding a small fan operated oil cooler/transmission cooler behind a louver or a few of them provide additional cooling?

We will be releasing the data soon but yes the race louvers had about 25% more front downforce and about 10% better cooling then the carbon hood.

Cool! Pretty neat project! So in conclusion, the lower rear vent would be the most effective? Providing the most down force and less drag with the liners installed. Or i am reading the down force char inverse?
It makes more drag but between the rest of the aero kit that's usually on cars this size the engine is easily able to compensate for the little amount of drag it has compared to splitter, canards and wing/spoilers
Why is there such a big difference between the mustang and the bmw regarding downforce, like the mustang makes more DF with a milder louver?

could i cut the back of the hood from one side to the other? a definitive opening instead of lifting the rear. Or would it be better to just cut the central part?

The reason is created more drag was the disruption to the air flow over the roof and turbulent airflow on the windshield.
Nope, drag was due to improper gurney on a vent not designed for a gurney flap. Shows adding a gurney to an existing vent doesn’t always work.
Just a suggestion: in future videos can you show windspeed and drag numbers in addition to DF? That would be very helpful. Thank you.

Great video, just found it. I have 1984 chevy caprice Ls swapped with Lm7 5.3 bored. 020 with LSA supercharger . Was thinking of adding vents to hood get rid of heat, any suggestions?? Thank For Your Help

I have a 61 bugeye street car with a sbc 383ci My underhood Temps are way too high. Looking to add hood louvers to extract radiator heat.. Hot Air flows into the air cleaner causing stumbling.
That 383 would love it if you let it breathe through a real ram-air intake! Yeah, and add a couple of louvers on the hood. I got a pair Large hi-flow louvers from them for an older miata. They worked great, could see the air bacon just rolling up out of them when idling in the hot summer.
Ducting behind rad that points the hot air out the louvers or it won't work well and won't like the rain either. Wish he'd of showed with the hood up, but you can find a picture of the ducting easily only for an idea how to build yours.
Did I miss reconnection of under hood bracing to skin after all cutting? or are some of the screws long, and catching brace (Under)hood?
I don't understand the advantage of this system. nascar and gt3 use this system, correct? Wouldn't a cowl induction be better? What's the advantage of air going up and not going through the engine?
This is louvers on the hood which provides an exit airflow path for the radiator improving cooling. Nothing to do with engine air inlet.
why not a cowl induction system? would take air out of the radiator, engine, engine compartment, it's much more efficient. if it wasn't good, the dragrace people and those desert runners wouldn't use it.
@@eltonv8taothe supercharged Audis 3.0tfsi models already have a factory intake vent that is forced induction. It sits in between the gap of the hood and grill slim and wide, goes into the airbox , then tube to throttle body

Do you guys make a drip tray for these vents by any chance? I daily my GT350 in Houston and would like the increased cooling these provide, but we tend to get some heavy rain here
Sorry we do not make drip trays for any of our louvers, drip trays completely kill louver functionality, most cars especially new modern cars are water resistant so its not needed. The only issue we have ever seen is using an open element airfilter directly under a louver, a simply filter cover, sealed airbox or hydrophobic prefilter is the fix.

@@eltonv8tao Yes raising the back of the hood for cooling is not recommended. While raising the back of the hood does help vent heat slightly only when the car is not moving. Once the car starts to move the high pressure air from the cowl area goes into the engine bay raising the pressure in the engine bay and on the back of the radiator which hurts radiator cooling. Since the main cooling of any car is the radiator and most cooling is needed when the car is moving raising the back of the hood hurts cooling. Plus raising the back of the hood creates front end lift which is bad at high speed.
