Typically the assumptive route is better ime, as long as you’re a confident guy because it displays confidence/dominance and an air of “oh he knows what he’s doing”. You never want a woman to see you as incompetent. Especially not with girls/getting dates. If you’re a bit less confident/dominant/aggressive by nature the first option might work better for you.
