Separating Fact from Fiction in Mild Cognitive Impairment MCI
10/23/2024 - Separating Fact from Fiction in Mild Cognitive Impairment
Memory loss and cognitive changes are often misunderstood, leading to confusion about what MCI actually involves. In this session, Neuropsychology Intern John-Christopher Finley will help clear up common misconceptions about how memories are formed and how brain diseases like MCI affect them. We’ll explore strategies to support memory and what the latest research says about maintaining cognitive function. This session will help you understand the real facts about MCI and memory.

CEP Community Live is a supportive space that offers weekly informative videos and discussions for those with early-stage memory loss, also known as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), their care partners and families, and clinicians.
MCI is a condition characterized by a noticeable decline in memory and cognitive abilities that is greater than what would be considered normal for a person's age but not severe enough to interfere significantly with daily life activities. It is a transitional stage between normal age-related cognitive changes and more serious cognitive impairment, such as dementia.
CEP Community Live is supported by the Harriet and Charlie Shaffer Cognitive Empowerment Program. Through a unique research partnership with Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Cognitive Empowerment program is a research program designed to co-create a sustainable learning community that promotes joy, purpose, brain health, and wellness through innovation and personalized lifestyle programs, technologies, and physical environments.
Our vision is to empower people facing memory loss and cognitive changes by creating an evidence-based model for lifestyle interventions that can be replicated nationally and internationally.
Our programming includes cognitive training, physical training, nutrition, support groups, and a host of other topics to increase their sense of empowerment and community and hopefully decrease their symptoms.

Thank you so much for watching from Alpharetta!
Incredible discussion and resources. I loved the sample meal plan, makes you realize how simple healthy eating can be. Greg explained everything so clearly. I took notes during his talk and plan to do more MIND meals. 😊 What about fruits other than berries? Would the serving size be 1/2 cup as well? Thanks for an informative and delightful talk. ❤
Bumblebee- yellow- envelope! Good job! Are lunges included in any of your workouts?
E,xcellent
Please help me correct my fragmented sleep and very poor deep sleep!!! I’m disciplined with diet and sleep hygiene and I try to get sunlight and move every day. Nothing helps. These critical deficits in my brain health make me feel like I’m slowly drowning and no one can help me
Good morning have a great day and beautiful sunny day and enjoy your evening ❤❤

Great, great program and great to see Suzette. She helped me immesurably during my journey with my wife Denise. Thanks for putting this video out there.
Thank you so much for your comment. We are a big fan of Suzette as well- and so glad to hear she was able to provide your family with support when you needed it. Thank you for watching our videos and your continued interest in brain health and wellness.
I would not mix fast digesting animal proteins with slow digesting carbs (grains, potatoes, and the likes) and that’s because the carbs such as beans will slow the digestion of meats in the digestive track and it will tend to spoil and may well give you headaches , however , veggies are the best substitute Incorporate morninga, avocados, cold water fish,
A vegan diet is healthier anyway.
I hate those diseases because they rob us of our loved ones. It's torture for the family to watch.

Feel very confident right now, but would welcome aides to that.

Thank you so much for sharing this - Ellen
Thank you. This was extremely helpful and will get me started on my meal plans.
Are you familiar with the work of Doctor Dale Bederson at UCLA on Dementia ?
The doctor states that inflammation control is likely important because too much inflammation might be driving Alzheimer's but yet she also states avoiding gluten (which has been proven to feed inflammation) won't help. She should have been clearer to state there are no trials or studies regarding gluten's impact on the disease risk for any population or subpopulation. This clear mistake in the presentation leads one to question the validity of the entire presentation unfortunately.
You are incorrect. Gluten has not been proven to feed inflammation, for the general population. Only in those with Celiac disease. You are probably right that more research could be done. On your part, that is...
Regret I wasn’t able to attend. Look forward to in person appointments, and group get togethers.
Excellent presentation for me as a black man .
What about FDA approval and Vitamin regulations?
Great question, Ms. Mantrone. "FDA 101: Dietary Supplements" on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website offers some insight on this topic. To learn more, visit www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/fda-101-dietary-supplements
I couldn't believe 1:59 like what..
Do you have this year’s available?
Is there a replay?
This was a brilliant discussion. I’d love for more Brown skin men to be present with more young Brown skin boys to assist with the healing we all need.
We're glad you enjoyed this discussion!
Why did Dr Hepburn skip over content listed in the PowerPoint presentation... Caregiving while Black?
Hi Ms. Deborah, thanks for your comment! The portion of the segment you are referencing was a previously aired video, shortened to ensure our live audience had plenty of real-time interaction with Dr. Hepburn. To learn more about opportunities like the Caregiving While Black Education Course, we encourage you to connect with the Faith Village Research Lab at scholarblogs.emory.edu/epps-faithvillage/.

Thank you! Great change of pace from walking! I need, as all of us old ladies do, the balance exercises.
Enjoyed both lectures from Drs Stites & Wingo. Did not find the links for Prof. Wingo's articles. Would you tell me where to find them. Thanks
Excellent information session! I do not wish to volunteer for the study, but I now understand the goals, the questions your team intends to answer, and I will alert others, as I can. Thank you!
Thank you for your support.
I never heard Dr Lah say when Emory would start administering aducsnunab. There was an unsweetened question that Dr Hajar said Dr Lah answered in his talk. So can you answer that here?
Thank you Dr. Parker!!! Keep me informed
