Land based fishing, Northern Territory.
Fishing in one of my favourite locations in the Northern Territory. I didn't catch any fish (which is not unusual) though I did see plenty of freshwater crocodiles, but I managed only to film one as they are easily spooked. This is truly a place that has unique wildlife and birdlife (as you will hear in the video). Then there are the feral animals such as wild pigs (hogs for our US friends) and buffalo, which I did not see on this trip.

Fishing and exploring an old WW2 crash site near Darwin NT. This particular crash site was an American B24 Liberator bomber that killed all six American airmen in January 1945 after a practice bombing run, just months prior to the end of WW2. They were originally buried at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, then sometime later they were exhumed and flown back to the US for burial. Lest we forget.

Firstly, I apologise for the use of the chest mount. I don't think I will be using it again as the view from the camera was impeded by my arms etc. Another trip with the Reeling Veterans at Dundee Beach, NT. All fish caught were released except one being the Barramundi. The Lemon Shark that was caught was released after breaking it off. We were keen in removing the hook but it was way too heavy...

Nature was the winner on this day. Loved the sights and sounds of the local wildlife and hopefully a bit better luck next time with the fishing. Cheers!
Hi Larry. Nature certainly did win that day. Take care and as always tight lines.
Love it, looks like I bette bring my flyrod to the NT as well as the Barra gear when I come up!
@@adda58 unfortunately though this time of year most of the creeks including this one and the smaller rivers that normally flow in the wet season are all dried up now.
Thanks for this video! I get to see an authentic view of the NT and learn something new. Keep it up man.
I think is really disgusting that the ecosystem has gone to the crap Adelaide and the fisheries cod bring out a light fishing licence like all the other states have done why don't they because I don't get a s*** why don't know restart proper creeks dams Lakes no they only three the ones that the government owns and you're not allowed to take the fish home at all. It's really ashamed that it is so hard to find a brown trout and if you do you better not snitch and tell anybody because everybody else will ruin it for you
@@SaMaNtHa.2023 interesting and valued comments When I was living in South Australia, I paid for fishing permits to finish the dams that the government opened up. So I suppose in theory that there is fishing licenses for certain dams within South Australia. In regards to Trout fishing, unfortunately South Australia is not renowned for trout fishing as the majority of South Australians are against stocking trout. I am keen to go back to South Australia at the end of the year for Christmas to see how the trout fishing (that’s if there’s any water in those creeks and rivers) is going as I now live in Darwin.
Bit windy in that 2nd spot, but looked like a beautiful day to be out on the water. No doughnut, but better luck next time!
What fly reel are you running in this vid bro?
Hi mate. It is a Daiwa 734. It is 45 years old which I bought when I was 13. They don’t make them like they used to. 😂
@@Luke.Nugent1967 mate that’s awesome! They definitely don’t that’s for sure. Everything’s plastic throw away stuff now. Cheers for the reply mate tight lines
That is very true. I’m glad that you enjoyed the video.
Przepiękne tereny , cos pięknego warto tylko dla tego tam być !
Good luck mate 🐟 🤞🏻. Looks fantastic out there
What a toothy lizard 🦎 aha. Great capture Luke 😍
look yammi
People don't know these are gentle creatures. As you can see if they want to get you they can
Very true indeed.
One armed crocodile can’t get shit
Ooooooonoooooo😅😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
😮ого
That gives meaning to biting off more than you can chew 😂. Awesome stuff Luke
Do the perch have spines on those dorsal fins or just a bit "scary" looking? Bet you have to watch for the bigger ol toothy logs too 😂 😍 🐊. Great stuff mate
Yes perch do have spines on the dorsal fin. Seen heaps of crocodiles up here too. They are really fascinating creatures to watch.
@Luke.Nugent1967 oh right yeah I thought that fin looked rather spiky aha. I agree there. I spent some time in Cairns and fondly remember seeing (from the safety of a high up river bridge) the cool red eyes glowing in the rivers on a few occasions 🐊
It's fascinating how the sand even looks sorta red soil / outbackish aha. What a wonderful way to enjoy a day I say 💯
Everything up here is very outbackish and still very remote in a lot of areas. You really need to be on your game up here.
@Luke.Nugent1967 absolutely that's my understanding of it too working in logistics that goes up there. We always say "it's a whole new world up north" 💯
There’s some awesome spots around that side up near the light house.
I am considering going back there this weekend, as long as the wind stays away.
It's still strange seeing the hometown on the internet. Especially the places I grew up in, like Rapid Creek. We were often at the beach or playing in the mouth of the creek. My mother was always worried about Crocs. Although they've always been around they were rarely seen when I was that young. I feel their numbers have now increased to the point where smaller ones are being pushed out of rural habitats and into suburban habitats where they have little to no bigger competitors. Subbed and Awesome video by the way.
Thank you for your kind words and Subscribing. There was a large crocodile trapped there not long ago just up from the footbridge.
@@Luke.Nugent1967 I guess I was a little Naive. Years ago a friend and I were fishing out of a kayak near the yellow bridge just inside the mouth. Mounted policeman were patroling the area and came over to ask us if we were planning on being there long. They then informed us that a croc had been reported and seen in the very spot we were floating. We didn't stay very long in the end 😄 You'll barely catch me near the waters edge now. Beaches without any nearby mangroves and creeks have become my preference, but crocs even get spotted in the surf at them now too! I know there's sharks about, I've seen a pretty big one caught at Nightcliff jetty. I really don't know which is scarierier, Sharks or Crocs. Probably crocs, because they can attack on land too! Me: Shark-nado? Pft! Stay out of the water then. Croc-nado? Sh##! 😲 *Just like a horse, Crocs can gallop, and trot.* I hope that's not your top speed! They can't climb... Quickly! Get in the trees! 😂
Beautiful area and that old cement building was cool, had to move, would be a weird spot for it. Better luck next time with the fishinig, but thanks for sharing the experience!
I'm with you on the chest mount, tried it once and never used it again! What a great day of fishing for you guys, several new species I haven't seen before and that last shark had to be fun catching! Looks like you all had a great time, thanks for sharing!
Yeah I certainly was disappointed in the chest mount. Thanks Larry so much for your ongoing support and advice. Cheers Luke
Tough day at the office, but what a lovely opening to the video and at least you managed to land a couple. Nice job!
Oh mate not wrong, it was a hard day. The dry season certainly dries up the creeks and rivers quite quickly. Cheers again Larry.
Nice to meet you yesterday mate! Cool footage
Likewise Alex and thank you for the feedback.
Beautiful spot mate, drone footage looks great!
Cheers mate. Unfortunately the fishing was a little disappointing.
G'day mate, I was wondering what you are using as bait/lure. Please answer if possible. Cheers
I was using lures.
@@Luke.Nugent1967 what brand/name?
@ILikeTrains-gd5uq I had it custom made when I was living in Townsville in the late 90s. Unfortunately the person who made them has passed away.
@@Luke.Nugent1967 it'll be so sad if you snag it😭
One of my old stomping grounds. Great vid.
lol. I do miss my trout fishing. Once I finish my stint in Darwin, I’ll be moving back to Adelaide hopefully one day I can take you trout fishing.
Very nice opening with the drone footage, looked great. Might not be the size you wanted, but always nice to get out and catch a few. Well done!!!
Cheers mate

Haha straight on 🎣
Nice vid mate used to fish there a lot
Half the fished scales where gone terrible job 👎
It is Simultaneous detection of scale drop disease virus and/or Flavobacterium columnare from diseased freshwater-reared barramundi.
Went there yesterday not as much water, heaps of tarpon and some small Barra around the edges
Yep that’s what I saw and the resident croc as well near the trap
@@Luke.Nugent1967 hmmmmm didn’t notice any croc I went down stream a little bit too got some good hits but too close to the edge for my liking.
That was very cool.
2 casts, not bad at all.
Wow, its been a year already, I remember you out with this group in 2023. Looke dlike a gorgeous day and good to see you guys get on a few. Your 2nd fish was a good battle and loved that ladies excitment when she got hers. Very nice last catch too, great job Luke!
Cheers Larry. Time certainly flies.
Great video mate, you’re really starting to dial in that Barra fishing! Few cracking fish 👍
@@Karl_Wild_Fishing cheers mate. I swear they are getting harder to catch.
Would love to get up that way at some point, some cool looking spots, but that car out there was a bit wierd. Nice job and better luck next time with the fishing.
Hi Larry, I reckon that you would enjoy it up here.
Bird billabong is great to walk around in the dry. Windows wetlands are great to have a crack if ya know where to go
I was wondering about that billabong if it held fish in it.
A huge thank you to NT Barra Fishing who assisted me by providing advice that had worked, its greatly appreciated mate.
1 tarpon was caught dont waste ya time😂
Very true indeed. I normally catch the odd Barra in that part of the river. Luck wasn’t on my side that day. Thank you for watching.
Good to be out and enjoy a fishing trip Luke and catching fish is the icing on the cake mate, nice trip, tight lines and greetings from NZ,, Tony.
Hey mate- awesome video! I’m new to SA and looking into doing land based fishing for fresh water species. I mainly use lures and plastics- any recommendations for which lures/plastics to use? Thanks heaps!
Hi mate. I would suggest spinnerbaits or hard bodied shallow divers. I had great success on a red and yellow shallow diving lure. Caught plenty of Golden Perch and Murray Cod on it. Check out my other video and you should be able to see the lure that I am using. The lure was custom made when I lived in Townsville by a person that I knew who has since passed away.
@@Luke.Nugent1967 much appreciated Luke! For fresh water land based fishing, is it better to target these fish close to structure? Thanks heaps!
Thank you for subscribing as well. It is greatly appreciated. Cheers
@@shuheilawson1433 sure is. I either cast close to the bank at a 30 to 45 degree angle or directly and around structure.
I recall you fished that same spot last wet season, good to see you out and about Luke I hope you had a good Christmas and new years.
Hey Tim. Yes mate I did. I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year as well. Yeah I thought I’d give that spot a go again. I was hoping for Sooty Grunter but I got herring instead.
marrakai?
Obviously you know the spot. 😂
@@Luke.Nugent1967 love that spots problem one of the better billabongs there.
Hey luke! do you mind if I could get your email? I have a question about this creek and which what flies I should use there. I do not want to ask the question about this creek on youtube because then everyone will know what this creek is called, Thanks!

Thank you very much!😀@@Luke.Nugent1967
Great video mate and congratulations 🙌 cracking fish 🏆 the tail walk on the release was epic!!!
Hi Karl. That was a good day all round, fishing with my work mates. My concern was the crocodiles looking and lurking around.
Man listen to the birds beautiful away from the busy life
Certainly one of my favourite places around there because of its wildlife.
👍👍👍
What were you using as bait 😂.. tbh just looked like you had a crooked line😂😂
You must be very cooked if you're actually that clueless
