Rowland Hudson “Rock” was his name.
so no one still knows where it is exactly? someone has to, couldnt it be found with any sonar/water radar type scanners? i would try if i had a dam boat...
Oh thank you so much for this. Berlin is my musical hero and I've only found 1 other recording of this song, and that one's only partial.
Great to see. My Great Great Uncle, Sgt. Walter Behler, from Hamburg PA, paid the ultimate price during the oise-aisne offensive on August 12th, 1918. He was a member of the 28th serving with the 108th machine gun battalion.
Really amazed to find this. One of the Captains in the 16th Engineers was a relative. I just visited his grave in St.Mihiel, France (taken by Spanish flu ), and the huge field hospital they built at Mesves sur Loire. The buildings are gone but the huge field is strewn with their debris.
Regardless of treaty, the boat should NEVER have been sunk. What a freaking waste.
Why should it have not been sunk??
@@TheRealObj292 It could have become as famous as the U-505. Chicago could have had TWO U-Boats. Fabulous German naval history.
@@johnkeviljr9625 well at the time it wouldn't be considered as a historical piece
I recall My dad singing that when I was very young! He served over there in WW 1.
My dad and Moose LaCombe revived the Corp in 1964. My dad, Fred Rodiger died in 1985 at age 87. Moose was the last surviving member and died in his hometown of Negaunee in Feb 1993 at age 91. The Corp was the last WW1 Drum and Bugle Corp to be active in the US.
I have my great great grandfathers Kelly helmet from the First World War. The insignia is clear as day on it. He was in the 28th infantry division and used an Winchester Shotgun.
They need to raise it. Stupid to have shelled it to the bottom. All that needs to be done is formally ask the British government for premisison to raise it for display. No reason not to over 100 years later. The boogy man can't hurt you anymore.
can they explain how the uboat went up niagra falls AKA the only way from lake ontario (only connection to the ocean) to lake erie nd get to lake Michigan
@@kylesunday5618 the Welland canal - through Ontario - bypasses Niagara river and the Falls. That being said, I do not know if that is the route taken by UC-97. You might want to check this out! Good luck.
They didn't have a choice but to destroy it. A clause of the armistice treaty required all German combat vessels held by Allied forces to be destroyed before 1 July 1921. (Source: Wikipedia - article: "SM UC-97" - "SM" stands for "Seiner Majestät" (English: His Majesty's) and combined with the U for Unterseeboot would be translated as His Majesty's Submarine.
hu.usembassy.gov/hu/tisztelges-bandholtz-vezerornagy-emleke-elott/
Száz évvel ezelőtt, amikor a világ az I. világháború sebeiből gyógyult, Harry Hill Bandholtz vezérőrnagy Magyarországon szolgált, mint a Szövetséges Katonai Misszió amerikai tagja. 1919. október 5-én a Magyar Nemzeti Múzeumot az a veszély fenyegette, hogy külföldi csapatok kifosztják. A csak egy lovaglópálcával és éles elmével felszerelt Bandholtz vezérőrnagy ezzel a felirattal pecsételte le a múzeum ajtaját: „Ezen ajtót a Szövetséges Katonai Misszió parancsára pecsételték le. H.H. Bandholtz, a Bizottság napi elnöke, 1919. október 5.” E cselekedetének köszönhetően a gyűjtemény Budapesten maradt.
According to the historical fact about his standoff with the Romanian military, he had persuaded them to stop looting the National Museum with nothing more than the crop and the force of his personality. The incident is described in detail in his book An Undiplomatic Diary by the American Member of the Inter-Allied Military Mission to Hungary, 1919-1920. Today the crop is on display in the Hungarian National Museum. RESPECT!!!
This is absolutely wonderful! I was gifted a collection of items from my father-in-laws father, whom served during WW 1. A box with hundreds of pieces of memorabilia from the war, both from the German and US sides.... Research from those items led me to this video (actually a web page in Ann Arbor, MI, which was invalid and I ultimately tracked it here) .I believe without a doubt Earnest H. Guy is somewhere in one of those clips. I just wish I could have found this while Charles was still alive. Thank you very much for posting this video.
He served with my Gramp!
Ok, now wait until they come out with a song about the Alamo so Texas can give them an award too
Excellent video.. thank you for making it, I served 25 years in the Michigan Army National Guard and worked, lived at the fort for 3 years. I would like to see more about the forts history. Especially about the German POWs that where their. There is a small cemetery on post of Germany POW soldiers. I also heard that some of the POWs stayed in the U.S after the war ended.
I'm sure there's a good story behind this, like a sudden surge in attendance for the museum, and visitors stating that a heavy metal band made them curious about history.
Awesome! My grandfather, Robert E Conrad was an Army Field Clerk in division HQ. He was also from Sunbury, PA. Interesting to see actual video of the unit overseas.
Thank you David, your work has kept the 16th's spirit alive, clearly a work of love.
its me
interesting
Send the word over there
I would have enjoyed the presentation if it had more photos of wwi vets with the orator voice in the background.
Truly deserving of such an award. Thanks to them, I have been introduced to so many cool and amazing stories from, and beyond the great war.
Wooo! Go Sabaton! :D
A bit too slow - makes Willie Weston sound more like Arthur Fields!
Play it at 1.25 speed it sounds better
Great job. Keep the Michigan memories alive for future generations.
These German POWs....they were housed on Fort Indiantown Gap at this time, correct?
In memory, Raymond E Egan, co M 110th reg 28th div, bugler, 16 yrs old, wwi. wounded in action (shot in the stomach) and returned to duty. Lived most of his life on Vine St, Sunbury, PA, died Dec 1988.
I was born and raised in Sunbury. Now in Pottstown where Co. A of 111th was recruited.
Who is the team that will raise it? and who is working on the documentary?

This is a great way to track the way WWI proceeded as it happened 100 years ago. Have been viewing various videos earlier, but this puts you in the exact same time without jumping ahead. The war as our ancestors saw it!
Many thanks, Dennis! Excellent choice of photos and the music. It's great to have the Caruso version in English and French since the bilingual need for the "Hello Girls" is so important. Nora Bayes' version of "How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm" also has the right sound.
I've been researching the service life of the Krag-Jorgenson rifle a few authors have stated that the 11th-17th railway engineers were issued these rifles in ww1 but I can't find where anyone has cited their sources ,would you know where I might find evidence of these railway engineers being issued the krag-Jorgenson?
Thank you very much for this information. I really enjoyed this.
