BBC NEWS REFLEX ANOXIC SEIZURES AWARENESS STORY.mp4
Переглядів 15 тис.12 років тому
Abis story on BBC News helping to raise awareness for RAS. This story was also in various newspapers and on BBC Sussex Radio.
I'm not sure but I think be extra careful with covid take enough medication to keep temp right down through out. I have these seizures occasionally and covid gave me them.
I was there!
I am now 56. I had RAS as a baby but back in the 1960s that's not what it was called. Like lots of children, I "grew out of it" and was never troubled again until 2008 when I had an accident at work and it triggered again. I've since lost count of the number of seizures I've had but in the last few months have had more than 140. The worst of these actually took place in an ambulance in which I was travelling accompanying someone to hospital! - I ended up also being admitted. It's very difficult to get some folk to understand that RAS is NOT epileptic fits; that it can be quite disabling in itself ie limiting what and when you can do things and for those that witness a seizure, it can be quite frightening. But it is rarely fatal and injury is more likely to occur if you fall and hit something. It is definitely tiring though and I know that after a seizure I can sleep for hours. If you are troubled by apparent fainting for no obvious reason, please go to your GP and get tested for RAS or one of the similar conditions.

I am 15, and I have reflex anoxic seizure, and when I was younger, I never really understood what it meant/what happened to me, just that I couldn't do some things that normal children did. I soon grew out of it, but now im coming into exam season at our school, they have now come back :( but it is good to actually know what they are <3
Elizabeth Thank you for commenting! I also have RAS, but I didn't know it could come back! I am 12 nearly 13 - year 8 - the last one I had was when I was 5... I am so very grateful for this info! (Edit) I am sorry for you! 😢
Our 7yr old daughter has had this sort of epilepsy for about 3 years now although it hasn't been clinically diagnosed. She has a seizure when she gets an unexpected touch. We tell people to always approach her from the front where she can see the person. When she gets an unexpected touch or is startled her body will stiffen and she'll fall backwards and stay that way from 10-20 seconds. Since these seizures affect the heart we give her a natural supplement called Taurine which strenghthens heart muscle. It's generally used for people with congestive heart failure. We give her 500mg twice a day, or one capsule twice a day.
JonesieLuv not to be rude but reflex anoxic seizures are not a form of epilepsy
