“Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.” - Sarah Dessen (#1 New York Times bestselling author)
The above quote defines the importance of music, it can unite anyone and everyone, none more so than live music.
Cardiff has a rich history of live music and this website aims to recall iconic moments of the past and highlight the present and future of the Cardiff live music scene. Music is important, an incredible force, one that needs a stage, a venue to be experienced as the wonderful, visceral, entertaining medium it is.

love the Wendy :-)
Great interview,she is a legend!
We can’t play the blues we’ve never suffered…. Brilliant👍
I enjoyed that Steve & James 🤘
King L's Hammersmith gig: First man on the sun blew me away, went straight out and bought the album.... Fab! 🤘💕
Great interview very informative James' knowledge as well as his guitar skills are incredible😁🎸
Wonderful interview guys, thanks.
Mark is a great bloke and an awesome guitar player!
Saw you in clacton ,great show, keep rocking.
Is the "Mickey G" the guy from Man.
Micky Jones is from Man
It's gonna be hard to visit David Lindley since he died. I had breakfast with him once. Check out Al Anderson, now solo, but of Wildweed and NRBQ fame.
I met Scotty Moore when he was promoting his book in Philly. He was at Tower Books on South Street. I called up Bluebond Guitars, near by, and mentioned him. They didn't come over so I was the only one there. Got to ask him all sort of questions. Hard to believe that someone so influential was ignored by the public.
He's fantastic, really lucky to have such a musician like James, his passion is infectious
Nice one Dave sometimes you win sometimes you loose bollocks with the telephone blues 😃❤️
Lovely interview. Particularly fascinating talking about folk whether traditional or not, and the art of storytelling.
Thanks Steve and James.
brilliant interview - so rare to get the chance to listen to jones - ive read so much over the years
could listen to jones for ever
fantastic journalist - with a real sense of love/hate for those he came into contact with - music journalism in this format no longer exists
Robert Palmer.
Fabulous interview, thank you James and Steve. Must get to see James and his band play live. When are you playing in Newcastle?
What a lovely character great interview 🌹👌🏼💪😎🤩
My old band once recorded in his old studio in the early 80s. I remember him being a nice, light-hearted guy. As far as his guitar-playing…. just wow!

Paul Gray: Musician and philanthropist, and all-around good guy; very refreshing...
I didn't realize Paul got around so much - both musically and geographically; I'm sure Andrew Ridgeley recognized how good Paul is on the bass, and, immediately wanted to secure his services. I guess Johnny Thunders was more of a natural fit and shoo-in straight off the bat. Just fascinating, and the way the interview is put together in snippets makes it much more punchy - better than one long chinwag, in my opinion. Thanks for uploading.
Yes, sad to say but I agree with Paul and his opinion on modern music - still everyone has to have their day I suppose and, technology only quickens that journey...Good to hear from Paul anyway.
The Damned weren't bad but it's got to be Eddie And The Hot Rods for me - the bass players that did it for me in the late 1970s were Paul (Gray - Eddie And The Hot Rods), Bruce Foxton (The Jam), and, Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy); I liked Trevor Burton of The Move and The Steve Gibbons Band too, but that was a slightly earlier era ... thanks for uploading.
Gotta contact Rickenbacker and get them working on a Paul Gray tribute bass guitar...
Fascinating stuff - thanks for uploading.
A great and (a )very underrated bass guitar player - to hear how good Paul is/was listen, to his playing on the stuff The Hot Rods recorded at The Marquee in 1976, and, the bass guitar playing on "On The Run" from their debut LP: Teenage Depression - simply great, Thanks for uploading.
Danny Gatton Fan a James the master 🎼👌
I never thought that the Newcastle Brown at the New Moon was watered down. It was also a very safe to go to. Great crowd.
I think the Great Hall has 1600 capacity. Went to so many good gigs there when I was at uni
But Wendy, you've had facial surgery and lip injections to conform to men's expectations, your comments are quite trite
Put them in a Nudie sequin suit or get him some decent clothes, he is a savant on the guitar, but it's called Show Business for a reason.
Absolutely love it. it made me cry.
Thank you for sharing such an amazing interview! We love it and gave this video a big like! Just subbed to your channel and can't wait to see more videos from you!
I think I recognise this guy's voice.
Jeff is awesome
(25.07.2023) Came across The James Oliver Band on a gig poster at Earl Haig. As I'd also seen the band name on the EH facebook site, I thought I'd Google them (him) to see if it was worth a trip out. Found him on UA-cam at the Bristol Blues Club, and was totally blown away. I told a mate of mine who loves live music as I do. We have got to see this band live. This vid confirms what a fantastic musician and all round character this man is.
Brilliant, brilliant band. Fantastic high energy live, with the self-penned songs to back it up lyrically, rhythmically, and melodically, which came to surpass their mighty covers.
She's fabulous!
I saw Zipper many times and was as excited as they were when they got their Virgin contract
She really lost it. She just sounds angry and bitter now.
Calm down.
I don't recognise that description watching this interview
As a schoolboy, Martyn was always one of the highlights of school concerts @ Stanwell Comprehensive in Penarth.
Fair play to Paul good bloke I did community music in youth clubs in the early 80’s Grate thing to do! It’s a shame youth clubs are gone
Yes Sarge name drops Paul all the time! Sounds a REALY good guy Proper musician with class and Experience no fantasist talking Here!
