How long you been using it as a drum stick?
No idea.
@thenetworkmystery just jestin thanks for video swerved it and gone for the Kingston xs1000 🙏
I just picked up one of these. I find working in a DAW distracting from playing/recording. Also looking to boost my skills with limitations
That's a great idea! It can be nice to intentionally limit yourself so you know how to work within the bounds of something.
Its the start of 2025 and i bought a z420! Mostly cause of the name. But my entire lab is HP. It fits my needs and exceeds my needs by a lot. So it will work perfect. Im paying .12c USD(.07off peak) for power. So i dont mind the dinosaurs! ❤️🧡💛💚
Nice!
got he same issue and it was due to animated backgrounds, use a pic and all good I'm using as a dev box so I could care less about that moving thing ... the only issue I have is the Airplay fails to hook up to my TV get the code & stuff but tv is black
I had the same issue even with a normal wallpaper.
Thank you for proxmox demo, it was the first proxmox working installation I've seen. Very comprehensive.
You're welcome! This is quite an old video, and I just needed content to upload. Glad you found it helpful!
Yeah you'll need headphones to the soundcard (not earbuds) to deal with the fan noise for sure which aren't good in a hot environment lol so on with the noisey air conditioner too!
Right! All my subsequent attempts to fix this issue have been unsuccessful, unfortunately.
got a z420 as well. could you help make a tutorial demonstration how to enable resize bar, nvme boot? Thx.
What are you referring to? I don't believe the Z420 is able to boot from NVMe drives.
@@thenetworkmystery Definitely it can. Some modified BIOS can activate Resizable Bar and NVMe booting. It can be found on reddit and various forums. I also have an Z420 motherboard for 7 years, but not modified BIOS yet. Still using for home lab purposes (main PC is 7950X3D based)
Thank you for this! I've been breaking my brain trying to figure out how to download a full installer and create a bootable usb for my oder Mac (using my Apple Silicon Mac). This solves both of those problems!
Of course! Glad this video was helpful!
I have had it for 3 days and it already stopped working
Aww, sorry to hear! Yeah, I am never buying another SanDisk SSD, despite the "updated firmware" that supposedly fixed the issue.
@@thenetworkmystery ah thanx for letting me know. Now i bought a samsung t7 shield and it works flawless
I think I made the best purchase of it all getting it for about 30 bucks from ebay and pickup.
$30 is a killer deal!! I just booted my Z420 back up, actually.
I'm using HP Z240 PC Workstation that got for £40!.
Nice! Glad people are still getting use from these old machines!
i installed sonoma in my 2011 mb air with no issues
I think it is an issue with this machine, specifically, and the Radeon GPU.
That thing would make a very, very good workstation. It is as powerful as 5 vacuum cleaners!
The noise was the only thing preventing me from using it as one!
@@thenetworkmystery get a cheaper quadro and tuck it away somewhere. You can use something like moonlight to remote into it with full 3D acceleration. Colour accuracy will go out of the window though.
I am wondering is there a Fan that is possible to buy to use instead of the stock fan for the Z420 CPU?
I believe the stock fan is the only one compatible, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. That's what I've found from my limited research.
You can remove that proprietary CPU cooler and install any cooler with lga 2011 brackets. Just keep the height of the new cooler in mind
Personally I own one of these multi-track recorder, and I personally prefer using this due too latency issues when recording vocals with a DAW. I then exporting the wav file to my DAW to do the mixdown and mastering. The Tascam does record WAV files to 16-bit and 44.1K, so I upscale it to 24-bit and 48K adding eq, compression, de-esser and dynamics plugins and the results are just amazing! 😊
Although upsampling will not do anything to the audio or make it better, I suppose that's a workaround to the bitrate/sampling rate limitation.
Dissing on the 006 like it's a useless tool doesn't impress.
I never said it's useless--just that it doesn't have the features I need.
I've had a number of Tascams including the DP-01 and the 2488 Neo. I cannot believe (or maybe I'm misunderstanding you) that you have to mixdown once you go over two tracks. Why couldn't you record drums and rhythm guitar to start (2 tracks), then add bass, then add some lead guitar, and then even some vocals (1 track for each one) and THEN mix it down? Mixing after recording 2 tracks makes no sense. Mixing after recording anything up to 8 tracks is something I've been able to do on any Tascam I've ever owned.
That's what I meant--that you record as many tracks as you want, THEN do the mixdown process. I apologize if that was unclear.
Yeah, I've been utilising old Supermicro server boards and Xeons of the day to fill up a mega desktop case which was originally a floor-mounted vertical server unit. For several years I was using paired 1366s with 6 cores / 12threads, and have recently replaced the guts with a slightly more updated 2011 E-2697s running on a S'micro X9DRL-3F, giving me a stonking 24C /48T , in combo with 96GB of DDR3 For the past couple of weeks I've been running BOINC to burn it in and make sure it can sit doing high demand tasks around the clock. By the time I get some VMs working properly it will be just a bit less fully capable. This time around I modded the case for better airflow and did away with the daft design of the outflow of one CPU's heat feeding directly into its neighbour's fan. It's all working so far, and fairly quiet. I'm not a gamer, in any way, all I'm interested in is fast video rendering / recoding, and photo manipulation, and for that, this is fantastic. There are a dozen drive bays in the front of this case, not all of them used for drives, but it still leaves eight for 3.5" / 2.5" or even, if I get desperate, some of those multiple 2.5 holders in a 5.25 carrier, once SSDs get dirt cheap. This is all tied up with my LAN, which has another couple of machines tagged on for storage and/ or media streaming, as well as isolated safekeeping backup.
Nice!
I got a free poweredge t320 for free and I'm so damn lost
Nice you got one for free! Unfortunately, I don't know anything about that unit, so I'm unable to help you.
I bought a Z440 on eBay for $70.00 upgraded it with a 16 core 32 thread CPU, NVMe Hard drive, 256GB ram, 8GB graphics card (all used parts). It's a little beast, and it's very quiet.
Yeah! This one's just a little older, but still holds up, I think!
Please try in in macbook pro 2015 11inch?
I do not have a 2015 MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, unfortunately.
HERE IS YOUR ANSWER; It's the metal graphics gpu vs non-metal graphics gpu. Support wasn't available until 2012. This is why it either won't load properly, or in my case, become extremely lagging/glitchy. I've downloaded every MacOS from Sonoma on down, and Monterey was the best MacOS to use with flawlessness. There are a few lottery MacBooks with Metal support that came out as far back as 2010! Again, these are lottery laptops. If you get one, or happen to own one already - consider yourself extremely lucky. *** ANSWER FROM APPLE BELOW *** Support for Metal 2 and earlier: These Mac computers support Metal and Metal 2 when using the operating systems shown. OS X El Capitan or later MacBook Pro introduced in 2012 or later MacBook Air introduced in 2012 or later MacBook introduced in 2015 or later Mac mini introduced in 2012 or later iMac introduced in 2012 or later iMac Pro Mac Studio introduced in 2022 or later **** Mac Pro introduced in late 2013 or later, plus mid-2010 and mid-2012 models with a Metal-capable graphics card **** To check if you have support for metal gpu's, hold down the OPTION key while clicking the Apple Logo on the top left corner, then go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES. Now, Click on GRAPHICS/DISPLAYS. On the right side, where the information is displayed, you'll see both AMD Radeon HD 6490M GPU (or whatever graphics gpu you have installed), & you'll also see the Intel HD Graphics 3000. If you see anything saying Metal, you should have support for it. If not, you're S.O.L like I am. I enjoy MacOS Monterey, so I'm not too overly-concerned about it. I hope this helps you all!
Good to know, thanks!
Hi, I believe I’m following the same UA-cam video that you utilized in an attempt to update my mid 2007 MacBook 2,1 to El Capitan. I’ve used osx-patcher to create my usb drive successfully, however when I try to boot from it by holding down the options key, the USB drive is never displayed as an option. Do you have any idea why this might happen? Oddly enough if I let the system boot into OS X Lion, it sees the usb drive just fine. I’m using a 32gb USB3 drive and I’m wondering if maybe it’s too large for such an old machine and perhaps that’s why it can’t boot from it? Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!
I am honestly unsure. I know the 2,1 MacBooks have 32-bit firmware interfaces, which pose a major problem for most applications and operating systems. I wonder if that could be the cause of your issues. Strangely though, mine's the same way, so I have no clue. I also used an older USB 2.0 drive. Perhaps ask around on a forum?
I’m using a 2009 Mac Pro 2.8 as my main machine rn. Doing film editing and film scores on this old dinosaur.
Nice!! Sold mine last year in favor of some newer, faster machines, but they're still very usable!
Problem is you have 4GB RAM
Honestly, it runs fine on 4 GB of RAM! Better than I thought!
anything under 16gb now is bad. But for an old machine it's fine, plus MacOS is half decent at RAM management. You won't be using this for 4k video editing lol
@Itskingmod94 True. The CPU and GPU are also far too underpowered for that.
why would u even want to use that
You probably wouldn't, but it was an interesting experiment nonetheless!
Ui looks new, computer looks old…

@@gigglescam 1. you can sell your computer when you want to buy a new one, 2. you don't need to buy every new computer but just buy a new computer when the last macOS version is not supported by your Mac and 3. depends how much money you gain.

Hi, I have the very same thing and I found between Peavey KB series and Rolland kb amps pack a punch for the highs and lows without any distortion. This guy comes alive just for jamming and small halls. Thank for your vid, there are things I did not know it had.
Interesting! I've actually never used it through a keyboard amp.
hi Thanks for the video and I noticed you use a different Virtual Machine software called UTM. This is the 1st time I ever heard about this. I'm just curious according to your experience with UTM, would you consider this is a better VM software for Mac? Better than both Vmware Fusion Pro and Parallel Desktop? Thanks a lot!
UTM is different hypervisor compared to the others. It can natively install macOS with full GPU acceleration, while VMWare cannot. Parallels is the closest comparison, but it is a paid software.
@@thenetworkmystery thanks but it seems it doesn’t support Catalina so I guess I will have to upgrade to Big Sur to have a try. Thanks for the information!
Incredible, Lacie is correct?
What do you mean? I have never owned a Lacie drive.
@@thenetworkmystery Then do you know someone who had problems with Lacie?
HELLO, please tell me how you did it, i tried everything, every patch, nothing work, PLEASE!!!
What patcher did you use? osx-patcher is the only one that will work with this machine, seemingly.
@@thenetworkmystery I used osx but when i installed El capitan at some point the mac juste reboot and Say " your computer reboot because of an error" even tho i change the date with the terminal I dont Know what to do
I put it on my 2015 MBP and it did work, but iTunes Movie purchases would not play correctly.. movie would start and play for about 10 seconds then go black screen but audio would continue.. needless to say I went back to Monterey...
That is a DRM issue, which I believe is a known bug.
did u run the post install in oclp dashboard ???
Thanks for showing me that a server can be used as a workstation! For me it was a little slow but worked fine.
It worked fine, except for the high fan speed. But yeah, aside from that, it was totally usable!
@@thenetworkmystery Thanks!😃
Would be great to see a power drawl with your setup. Also you stould try Ubuntu instead of Windows once 10 is EOL.
I am running Windows 11, which will be supported for many more years.
I'm still using my HP Z400 (since 2010) with 4 displays. In 2010 it was half the price of a MacPro for the same hardware config. Of course a lot of update since (nvme drive, 10G network, USB3, GPU). When I bought it I never thought that I will be able to update it for so long. Writing a file at more than 700MB/s on a locale disk or to a server was not possible for normal people... I'm thinking of bying another one for parts but in 14 years the only thing that broke was 1 SAS HDD and the power button cap: I have to push the power button directly...
You've just proved that these workstations are indeed reliable, durable, and long-lasting! That's great to hear!
I am using this workstation with 32-GB DDR, 250SSD, 1TB Sata, 4gb 3D card, Working perfectly, Supports only DDR3 Ram not DDR4
Right, the lack of DDR4 support is a bit of an issue, but otherwise, the workstation works perfectly!
The instructions for memory population are on the underneath of the top plate on my server, maybe your one is different. High fan speed without doing updates and third party fixes is due to non dell components
I knew the non-Dell components were the reason for the high fan speed. I guess I did not see full instructions for memory installation on the top plate.
You can do the reverse by the network : ua-cam.com/video/r9EgLWbCwRk/v-deo.html
If you stick with windows 10 below 20H4, and use an E5-1650/80 v2 you can overclock it to run at 4Ghz all core, also, they work with regular RDIMMs, not use unbuffered ECC and will take up to 128GB of 1866Mhz ram. I ran mine with a titan X pascal for a while, and it did pretty well in 1440p gaming.
I thought Xeons weren't capable of overclocking... This would be an interesting experiment, except that Windows 10 is out-of-date, even moreso that particular build.
@@thenetworkmystery the first, second and 3rd gen E5 single socket CPUs had their multipliers unintentionally had their multipliers left unlocked, unfortunately intel realised their mistake by the time they got to the 4th gen. And yes, it is unfortunate that later versions of windows stopped intel XTU from recognising the unlocked xeons.
@@thenetworkmystery "Windows 10 is out-of-date" ... Windows 11 is bloatware.
Cani i buy now Hp z420
You can buy them used on marketplaces like eBay.
Purchased our, off lease, HP Z420 (Xeon 1630) on eBay for $350 5 yrs ago.. Added a Samsung 950 Pro NVME (512 Gb, $316) which had a bootable BIOS that was recommended on the HP user forum website, and a recommended 3X, 4 lane, PCIE adapter card from Amaz-n ($20). Installed Win10 to the NVME and subordinated the original 250 Gb, 2.5 ” HP drive as backup. This configuration was exceptionally stable (no reboots for months, I thought it was the Xeon/ ECC combination until last year, while scrolling through web pages in Chrome, the fonts displayed started to corrupt! Purchased a Quadro P1000 ($ 100) to replace the original Quadro 2000, and upgraded the memory from singled, dual channeled ECC memory to dual sided ECC (32 Gb) of Kingston, quad channel memory, problem solved. Unfortunately, the HP Z 420 does not support TPM 2.0, no mWindows 11. It will have to be retired to a trusted NAS. Like you, I purchased a HP branded LSI 9217-4i4E PCIE x8 SAS card which the Z420 easily accommodated an installation of Proxmox which gave me the ability to run multiple VM’s and containers, the power and stability of the Z420 is an excellent value to act as a local cloud server.
I was able to get around the TPM 2.0 limitation via some well-known hacks. I'd imagine it does run well for virtual machines and such (with a good CPU, of course)!
I have recycled the machine, as I had no use for it, and it obviously didn't run modern macOS well. Your comments are appreciated as always, but I won't be able to implement any fixes you might suggest.
honestly I would hackintosh this computer, it would be much better
It would! I'd need to get another GPU though, as macOS has no drivers for the 1650 Super.
Just use Linux you will have less pain
I have bought a lsi 9270 cv 8i from ebay for my z420 to use 3 , 4 tb sas drives I have lying around since this editing pc is running short of hd space and that didn't work for me, now thinking of buying 9260 8i since there are no working videos of the lsi cards on yt other than yours. Anything you have changed in bios or is it default?
I thought the 9260 wouldn't work... I was almost 100% certain it wouldn't. Because I had the same issue as you--there are NO VIDEOS on YT about it!! But when I connected it, it just showed up in the Mini-OROM display. All I had to do was enter the BIOS of the controller using whatever key command it is (can't remember at the moment). I will say, it took a bit of fiddling around to get it in the configuration I wanted (that BIOS is NOT user-friendly at all!), but I got it running, nonetheless!

Does it run what in 4K? It cannot run games in 4K, but it can edit 4K videos and drive a 4K monitor.
@@thenetworkmystery It actually kinda does handle AAA games at 4k, assuming you're using the top line cpu of the socket. Preferably with a top line AMD gpu too, that is. the large cache and difference in cpu instruction give them advantage to last so long.
