Beautiful and tough !!! My favorite formula !!! Thanks, John 😁
Nice fly I'm going to make some for trout /albicor
That's a good looking fly John , what colour is the lateral scale you are using?
I use the pearl blue scale it has a kind of purple colour in the pearl, but any lateral scale will work, I’ve used silver ones also and works great.
Clean, solid tying, love it
👍🏻
Thanks 😊💯🎣

Good job bro
Nice job I like it
Great looking fly!!
Thanks a million Jim, must start making some new videos. New content coming up soon
How long do you aprox make it?:)
Depends on the hooksize some 3 inches some 5 inches all depends what’s size im tying in hooks and same for dumbell eyes I use medium or small depending on the hook
Great video beautiful shrimp, So realistic nice to watch
Thanks for the kind words 💯💯💯💯
Hello John to begin with, I once again watched with admiration and enjoy how you make this sand-eel beautifully done i subscribed to your youtube channel after having seen a number of videos can you give me some explanation about what kind of vice you should buy if you want to start tying because i've been looking around but it made me dizzy the eyes how many kinds of vice,s there are i am starting with learning to bond and live in the Netherlands so all tips and advice are welcome
Thanks a million Willem, hope it has been of great help to you to tie your own patterns. Very effective for the coast here in Ireland 🇮🇪. Definitely a pattern you should try 😊tight lines
This will be devastatin for sea trout on the estuary. Brilliant my friend. Absolutely brilliant🙌👏
Awesome lad. Just awesome. So realistic👏👏
Thanks buddy, I’ve gotten better since myself, practicing makes perfect 😊💯💯
The man, the myth....the legend. This is the 1st ive seen your videos. Just as impressive as in person👏👏👏
Thanks dude, must get back at it bro, should stop recording porn and get back recording flytying videos 😂😂😂
@@castbyjohnflytying 🤣🤣🤣🤣 aww your brilliant sir👏👏
Great video John and thanks for the demo at today's BFFI. I'll definitely tie up some of these for the Bass.
Thanks for the kind words, 😊💯 looking forward to see the pattern you tie. If any questions please reach out, I’ll be more than happy to help.
Thanks a million for the kind words. 😊💯💯
Leave it to castbyJohn to take a clouser and turn it in to a flat wing masterpiece 🤌🏻. I like how you didn’t bind the underwing all the way up at the eye and behind the lead. I’ll have to try and experiment with this…
Thanks a million Bradley for the kind words. Give it a try, they fish very well 💯💯🎣🎣 tight lines.
Hi John, new fan from coastal South Carolina here after seeing you on the Ahrex channel. I really like your approach and the simplicity/elegance of your flies. Thanks for demonstrating the tool. I like the idea of never having to put your fingers in the loop to start it or add materials or whatever. Thanks and well done
And just to add, I've been getting back in to flat eyes on my flatwings and CF baitfishes and so forth, and I'd been having a hard time getting them to set. It clicked what was going wrong when I saw the Ahrex video where you talked about covering the eye on the outside to keep them from canting out in what you called "the U shape"... I tried that on my next fly and it worked perfectly. Such an obvious but genius hack that I'd never thought about
Thanks Bradley for the subscribe, appreciate it and happy my videos can be a bit of help to others. Is all about sharing knowledge and learning new things every day. Tight lines. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
@@bradleystokes3277 yes it took me a while to figure out how to get the flat eyes to sit better and also not to get that U shape when adding UV. Happy to help and share some of my knowledge 😊💯💯💯💯
@@castbyjohnflytying yeah it was a big tip… really upped the quality of my heads. Now all I need is to figure out where to get good flat eyes consistently. The 3D eye game has really taken over the market. Thanks again for your knowledge my friend 🙏🏻
@@castbyjohnflytying Yeah man, keep up the great work and content!
Great videos John! Thanks for the uv tips at Clonanav yesterday 👍
Thanks Colm 🙏🙏🙏 happy to help, any questions pls reach out.
Awesome !
Nice fly. I have the same vice, do you find the tool bar better than the tool holders in the pedestal? Cheers Craig
Thanks Craig , it’s a great vice, one of my Stonfo collections , I have 3 of their vices and really like them all
Fantastic looking pattern. Thanks for it!
Thanks for the kind words 🎣🎣💯💯
Nice fly, I'm working on a very similar pattern, a sand-eel pattern for seatrout in Iceland.
Sorry only seen this now, apologies. Hope you tied it, this pattern is great for seatrout here
Hi john lovely fly.....interesting method using a bent shrimp hook whats the reason behind it other than using standard straight shank hooks. Many thanks Mark
Thanks Mark. 💯😊. I like the bend shrimp hook as the dumbell eye sits better and is more aligned then. Gives a better profile for the feathers position as using a straight hook they will sit higher but using the bend hook they will sit ring in the middle where I want it. Also I tested them to see the action with a straight hook and the bend hook and there allot more jig action with the bend hook, reason I prefer using that one on the flatwing Clousers 😊. I’ve tried the new Bob Clouser hooks from Ahrex, they are very nice also but will use them for my normal Clousers.
@@castbyjohnflytying need to tie a few of them up for pollock here in Northern Ireland
@@markrainey3268 yep deadly for pollock the Yellow ones, tie them in yellow with chartreuse, they will hammer those. 💯💯🎣🎣
@@castbyjohnflytying I've always had great success on black and chartreuse pearl flash or silver flash and olive white and chartreuse need to give the yellow ago but never tied in clouser minnow style never use weighted flies on any of my saltwater flies i use the airflo short head custom cut di9 mainly for the rock marks i fish in 10 ft to 20ft of water and rolly polly after hits bottom...flu yellow or flu yellow grizzle 👌👌👌
@@markrainey3268 I’m the same I only use the Clousers for fishing estuaries for fast outgoing tide, this way it gets to the bottom fast, but I rather use sinking lines for rock marks and unweighted flies this way you have more action on the fly and let the line do the job to get the fly down. 😊👍💯🎣
Great John, Excellent seatrout flies
Thanks a million 😬💯🎣🎣
beautiful baitfish ! I really like the synergy of natural and synthetic materials. Bucktail is my #1 favorite material, followed by various synthetics. Your attention to detail is excellent. All around great video- keep up the good work
Thanks a million Joel, appreciate your kind words 😊🙏🎣💯💯 tight lines.
Follow up to my comment / question earlier today on hackle fouling the hook...I watched your video again and I think my hackle placement was slightly higher than yours as shown so I’ll tie this again with my hackle better aligned lower with the hook shank. 👍
Ya you take it by the stem and pull them down before tying, this way you will get it to sit lower, it will avoid fouling then. Also I add UV over the tread and small bit to hold the hackle down to avoid it lifting and moving. Glad the video helped, must make some new videos but hard to do now with a broken finger. New video coming soon.
Question I fished this pattern yesterday in Jacksonville area creek and grass flats. Looks beautiful in the water. However I fouled the grizzly hackle on the hook a couple times . I want to make this pattern a standard go to fly in my box. Amy suggestions on how to correct the fouling? Maybe I didn’t get the hackle correctly fitted in between the lower and upper body buck tail ? Is that upper and lower buck tail designed to keep the hackle centered? Thanks
Sorry only see this now, ya do the bucktails should keep it from fouling. And when attaching the hackles I pull them down to sit better in the center. If to high they will foul on you. Is a great pattern to have. Has caught me allot of fish. Tight lines Geoff 💯💯🎣🎣🎣
Thanks your recommendation worked perfectly. I caught a bunch of sea trout and reds on Monday with this pattern. They crush it. Im experimenting with the size of the eyes now for best sink rate in the different water depth and current conditions I fish here. Hope your finger heals quickly! Thank you for sharing such a great fly pattern and your great tying expertise. As a retiree, I really enjoy fly tying new patterns and trying new tactics and locations for fly fishing.
@@geoffwatt8880 nice one, is a deadly pattern 💯💯🎣🎣 . I would recommend not to change the eye size as it will affect the movement. What I normally do is change my Lines. So use a faster sinking line or slower depending where I fish - currents and depths . Hope that helps use a DI 3 or a DI7 you will get to the fish without messing up the action
Veryj nice. Beautiful!
Thanks a million 💯💯🎣🎣🎣
Beautiful pattern, expertly tied! Has all kinds of alternative color derivatives too.Thank you for sharing 👍
Thanks a million for the kind words 🙏🙏. Great pattern to have in your box for the coast, I’ve had plenty bass here on the coast on it in Ireland 💯💯🎣🎣🎣
Класс!👍🤝🇰🇿
😬😬💯💯🎣🎣
John, using the word amazing to describe your talent as I watch your creations unfold each time you sit down to your vice seems like a massive understatement, it's beyond mind-blowing. Best wishes, see you soon.
Thank you my friend, I appreciate your kind words, I’m really happy you enjoyed the video, see you soon for a cast my friend. 🎣🎣🎣💯💯
Well done John. Chartreuse and blue look great together. 🎣 👍
Thanks buddy, it sure gives that little hot spot for them to hit the head of the baitfish, can’t wait for the bass to start showing up, they won’t stand a chance 😬😬😬🎣💯
Very nice, you make it look so very smooth and easy. Thank you.
Haha thanks 😀 I’ve had a few incidents I woollen break a tread ir specially when tying salmon or trout flies that the hackles won’t go how I want and wished it was easy 😬 but practice makes life easy after a while. Thanks Ed for the comment and for watching the video 💯💯🙏🙏😊
Beautiful and perfect. You are an artist my friend 😊💯👏🏼
Thanks a million, I’m glad you liked the video, thanks for watching 🙏🙏💯🎣
Very nice fly and cool new dubbing tool!!…….Thank you 👍🎣
Yesss it sure is, makes life easier when tying 😊. Thanks for watching.
It looks lethal plus it’s easy to tie . Nice
Thanks Mike, trick is not to over do it, some people add to much material to clousers, but less is more.💯🎣
Can I assume good for Stripers?
Well I use them here in Ireland on the coast for bass but I have a friend in New Jersey I’ve sent him a few and he uses them for stripers there.
Thank you!
Absolute beauty!
Thanks a million 💯🙏😊
I hope it's a great fly. Happy Christmas 🎄
