Stage 1 means only firmware modification

If you write a full file, not just the calibration area, then the CVN will be original after a while. Otherwise, if other areas were changed, the CVN will be incorrect.

Hey there - I came across your video here trying to research what is going on with a '02 WRX that I bought a few weeks back. I bought a used Cobb v3 AP tuner from a guy who had it married to an '04 WRX and my understanding is that it is the correct model to work with my subie. When I go to install the tuner it says there is an unrecognized ROM installed and then when I try and do anything else with the tuner it says it can't read the ECU. I am able to read the ECU with my other scanner and was able to identify the ECU and calibration verification numbers. This is as far as I've gotten. The CVN is: 016422EF7E0200000000 I'm guessing that's a hex string and when I translate it it appears as a semi-sequential string of numbers. I'm basically lost with what to do with this information or if I'm even on the right track to trying to solve the problem. Hoping you might have some advice for how I can figure out what has been done to the car. The owner I got it from bought it from someone else who bought it from the person who was the one who tinkered with it. So I'm too many degrees of separation from being able to ask and get any reliable info. So, is up to me to unravel it and get it back up and running. Thanks in advance for any info or help.

Can a dealership identify these changes in the software for warranty work? Also does this require the ecus to be shipped off?
If a dealership really wants to, he will be able to find out that the software is not stock. It can run a checksum calculation routine for a specific area. In practice, no one does this. We also keep the original CVN. Yes, it requires.

All is done within the ECUs firmware so there are no external devices.

All is done within the ECUs. If it were easy every tuning company would do it but there are only a few. I would say it's more difficult than Stage 3.

@@sandroschtolpe6803 no problem so far. The clutch was replaced at 50 000km but it was killed by many launches at 5000-6000RPM. By the way, the QV is equipped with a double-disc clutch from the factory.
A normal QV does 100-200 in 8.4 so that downpipe helpes a lot
how can you claim this? Did you measure it? I did. It does 9.4 actually but like I said the downpipes gives -0.1sec only. With two persons in the car it was 6.9s, with downpipes 6.8s. One person around 6.6s. So it's not a lot. This "lot" is a custom boost pre-control map(assembler patch) that allows for easy control of the wastegates. I can close them 100%, not 80% like many tuners can do. That's why I got 2.3bar of boost instead of 1.7bar. And this is at an altitude of 720 meters above sea level. The fuel is E72 by the way. It's another -0.7sec. The transmission is MT and it's another +0.4sec.
