      Unfortunately there isn't one - I wish there was! This specific scene was filmed as part of a celebration of 50 years of productions at the National Theatre in London, which presented individual scenes as 'highlights' of the theatre's history. ua-cam.com/video/igWOsGGoJdM/v-deo.html

    What a great comparison. Each version brought tears to my eyes, all three played so differently yet so effectively. What a show. I've only seen the HBO version in full and these snippets. So wish I could see it done live, but I live in an area where that's unlikely to happen and haven't got the ducats so see it anywhere else. So these little gems are priceless.

    I think Garfield overacts. I was spoiled by Stephen Spinella, 1992 (Prior Walter); back 25 years later as Roy Cohn.

    Loved how Andrew Scott and Dominic Cooper developed the scene to end on a heart-breaking question mark.

  • @bananamanchester4156

    They all have a different take on the delivery. Dom Cooper is far more tender with Louis and seems more concerned about his reaction. Andrew Garfield seems almost defeated like he is in a deep despair over the situation. And Andrew Scott is a lot more angry and bitter. Each portrayal is excellent in different ways.

    The first Louis then the last Prior would be amazing. The last Prior (Andrew Scott) was understated and real. I felt how uncomfortable it was to express that he was scared that Louis would leave him.

      I dunno, I just feel like Andrew Garfield’s flamboyance really brought prior to life. I loved every scene he was in bc Andrew Garfield was mesmerizing to watch no matter what else was happening around him or to him or whatever. Andrew Scott is incredible too, but I think his styling for the character just isn’t as effective for me based on the little bit of his performance I’ve seen clips of.

    To be fair to Louis, introducing himself as "Lou" to his family is not a closet thing, its a Jew thing. They would sooner accept Prior as his boyfriend than call him "Louis". If he said "Im Louis" their smile would drop and they'd get passive aggressive because he's disrespecting his family and culture.

    it is absurd when you attack someone who literally put his life on the line to defend England and protect it citizens from foreign invaders especially when you had a massive figure head like Harold Harmsworth who was born into wealth and privilege supporting the enemies of this country never coming close to any real danger to defend this country. That no one at the mail realised how hypocritical they were by releasing a article claiming ralph miliband hated england it actually even more damning than having a unpleasant individual like Harold Harmsworth as a figurehead in your past.

    I never knew any of this but the crowd just went wild. The Daily Mail is one of the most divisive newspapers that exist along with the Sun. The only thing these 2 newspapers have in common is they are constantly publishing inaccurate stories ostracizing an antagonizing people people who have different beliefs and opinions.

    Oh right, but presumably his goal was to be a success working at the Mail, writing interesting arguments, stirring debate and who knows, maybe winning a journalistic award or two and thus increasing the readership and therefore increasing the profits of that bile soaked rag you love so much. Hmm... It's tough to have principles when there's money involved, isn't it. By the way, do you reckon there are many PETA activists working at KFC in order to give customers an alternative viewpoint?

  • @bristolactor
    @bristolactor 11 років тому

    That's what 'polemical' and 'contrarian' mean, yes - to take the contrary point of view, and to speak against the majority behaviour. You don't know what he'd have done, so cut the cynical, ad hominem attacks, and make a positive contribution to the debate. I'm not saying Mehdi is some kind of left-wing saint, I posted this because he's a great orator, and because I get pleasure watching someone exposing the Daily Mail for the bile-soaked rag it is.

  • @fodsaks
    @fodsaks 11 років тому

    Sure... So his 'admiration' and 'attraction; to that newspaper should be disregarded then? Would he have been writing columns highlighting the newspaper he worked for as immigrant bashing, woman hating and anti-British? Or do you think he would have just swallowed all that back and cashed the cheque?

  • @bristolactor
    @bristolactor 11 років тому

    You can find the full text of the letter (which incidentally was private correspondence with the newspaper's HR department; can any journalist now trust the Daily Mail to be honest in its dealings with them?) on the Guido Fawkes blog, and further comment on Mike Sivier's Vox Political blog.

  • @bristolactor
    @bristolactor 11 років тому

    You (and the Daily Mail) missed out: “I am on the left of the political spectrum, and disagree with the Mail’s editorial line on a range of issues,” “I could be a fresh and passionate, not to mention polemical and contrarian, voice on the comment and feature pages.” While Mehdi's religious beliefs make him an odd kind of liberal, he is not a hypocrite. His application to work for the Daily Mail was to do so as a 'polemical' & 'contrarian' voice, writing articles that gave an opposing view.

  • @fodsaks
    @fodsaks 11 років тому

    And in 2010, he wrote to the Mail asking to become a columnist. Here's a few highlights: 'The Mail has a vitally important role to play in the national debate.' 'I admire your relentless focus on the need for integrity and morality in public life.' 'I am also attracted by the Mail’s social conservatism on issues like marriage, the family, abortion and teenage pregnancies.' Cue muted trumpet *Wah WAAHHHH*
