Hello from USA. I love Australia and thank you for showing this video.
⚓️ Scary heavy boat. 🌈 Lead mines like that need 30 y/o guys on deck. 😎
Great footage. But I think, I prefer hacking around the bay with my Sabre Dinghy on 'busy' days.
I asked yesterday NS quotation. 3000 CHF per m2 of sail!!! Wtf??!!!
Is it worth it? Fully yes
this boat its a masterpiece!
That shot of her heeled over, powering to windward...
Thanks Dallas I lost the disk, great memories!
vegetation needed in this town
LOVELY BOAT
Are you Kilponen a sibling of the florida based yachtman Kilponen?
Yes
@@dallaskilponen GOOD TO KNOW.....I'VE BEEN BOATNIGGER OF SY BRAVA DURING THE 1985 SORC AND KILPONEN HAS BEEN A SORT OF EMINENCRE GRIS FOR THE ENTIRE ITALIA TEAM THERE.... GOOD MEMORIES ABOUT HIM...
Beautiful video. I was intrigued by the very obvious professionalism, looked you up and it all made sense. Absolutely beautiful sailing shots and great on-boat atmosphere.
Amazing 🔥❤
Kiun B's biggest enemy
Back in this boat's original era, we did 320 miles in 18 hours on Police Car on the way back from Hobart. That is half the distance Syd to Hobart and made a mockery of this and the other boats at the time but nothing was said.
If this is the same Kialoa II, I used to sail by her during sailing lessons as a young teenager taking sailing lessons and racing in a 14 foot Lazer sailboat when she was docked at the Waikiki Yacht Club in Honolulu in I believe 1982. I looked at her in awe. What a beatiful sailboat. I believe she was waiting to sail the around the Hawain Islands in the Pam AM clipper cup. I was asked to be a "grinder" on another boat but my parents would not allow it as we were transfrering oversease as my dad was in the military. I was told the paint for her hull was $100 per gallon at that time and she is 78 feet long! Thanks for the memories. Amazing sailing by this crew through some tought stroms. Great job!
ça fait rêver de voir ces belles conditions en tant que marin d'eau douce ! ( Lac Léman- Switzerland)
Are you sure that was 50knts? Usually water flies with that kind of wind… ?
Yeah very sure mate! Read the detailed description below video.
oh man what a sail inventory that thing has , is probably worth more than the boat itself! nice filming
Why don't they make them wider to make them more stable?
Solid boat, great crew. Nice to see a boat that isn't being submarined into every wave at 25+ knots. 50 knots and the cockpit stays dry...well done by the photographers as well. Lot of work putting together such good footage.
i know nothing about sailing, but this feel beautiful video and... what is the song name from 2:02 ...?
Thanks. The song is Great Divine by Xavier Rudd
Id love to see a foiling 40' sailboat pass at 50 knots
Some sail alone round the world in this size of yacht, haha how do they manage?! (Henk de Velde e.o.)
Nice vid but lose the annoying music.
Love the music 😃
@@dallaskilponenme too ... I often watch this Video before I fall asleep at night ... I absolutely love it ... and my cat does as well 😂
Brilliant
Nice boat in nice conditions. You were lucky
In 2017 I followed the yacht race from sydney to Hobart in my in inflatable boat, I got caught by similar storm near wine glass bay I’d never seen anything like it before. The winds on Tasmania south coast are next level.
Was a nice apart from storm bay by the looks of that video, anyone remember the footage of Apollo surfing the waves in storm bay?
Awesome. Just awesome ❤
Wow, superb ❤
Complimenti squadra efficiente filmato favoloso un saluto da Venezia...Loris
I have worked in 51C in the gulf country.
Soooo beautiful
Fantastic. 🇦🇺👍🍺
Some good memories there Dallas!!! Hope all is well - Lockie
We live on the Western Darling Downs, Queensland. On the odd occasion, we've had 48°C and yes; everthing is hot, the chairs, tables, work benches, tools; the lot. Oodnadatta is a great experience, along with William Creek and Lake Eyre but we did it smart and went through the whole track in winter time. 😉👍🙏
Came for the boat, stayed for Moby! Great flick! Edit: great music indeed, and good sailing! Waterboys and all! This is good medicine for sailor's winter depression, it's -18 centigrades outside and the sea ice is growing. Four long months to endure...
I live in the Phoenix area. Next week, we may wake up to freezing temperatures. I started looking at Oodnadatta's temperatures to feel warmer this January.
10/10 boat and sailing, and perfect choice of music too!
This was good!
Magnificent. Rails in the water leaving trails of waves and mist. A sight to behold.
so true
60 kts gusts is massive... the boat takes it unimpressed and just moves beautifully through the waves with minimal rudder correction. A testament of good boat design and and excellent seamanship. Well done!
There was very little swell as they were in the lee of the island, but yes, older designs were far more kind to the crew in some ways.
To be fair (or accurate) it looks more to me like she rounded up several times and the helm was simply being overpowered. I'm guessing they would have liked another reef in the main, difficult to do in that kind of wind. Not sure where you see "minimal rudder correction."
I spent a memorable week on her in 1987. She looks great.
I miss the ocean, I miss racing, It brings tears to my eyes to watch this, and know I will not be doing it again. Fair seas, and following winds, and a safe return for all. 12-25-23
Please share if you are able, to let us know why you can no longer go offshore racing. Maybe we can help?
@@pauladams8475 Hi That may be one of the niced offers I have received in years, and I thank you very much for it. The simple answer is, one of the side effects of the cancer I have is vertigo, My balance is not what it needs to be, to be safe on a boat, let alone one that is racing. Luckily I have never had a problem with sea sickness, so for the most part other then balance, I don't let it bother me, I am just a permanently drunken sailer⛵. But again I thank you.😁 01-02-24
Classic. Reminds me of thos early Whitbread races.
Thank you for this beautifully produced video. As a sailor, I love those long shots that you held showing the yacht moving through the ocean for extended periods. So much sailing footage from the Ocean Race, Vendea Globe etc is a psychotic mix of 1- 3 second shots it drives me crazy as I want to see the ocean and the boats interaction with it. This was spectacular and together with the beautiful music, had me spell bound. Bravo!!!! More please!!!
Agree except I dont want to hear any background music
You might not, but the music is well chosen and the sound-editing excellent. Note the way the second "happy/relaxed" song fades, then as shit starts to get serious you hear a distress call with a guy who's lost his rudder. As this happens fade in Atoms for Peace "Before Your Very Eyes" which is about seizing opportunity, because if you don't life will go past you "before your very eyes".....
I could not agree more
I lived there many years ago. I can remember a period where it was over 40 for 10 or so days, we then had a cool change and the temperature went down to 36.
Thanks for the upload! great vid
👍
