Four Dollar Chain Tightener Fix for Kawasaki Versys-X 300
My right side chain tightener nuts and plate fell off, no idea when (probably when the kickstand bolt fell off last week). While waiting for OEM parts, I went to Ace Hardware and spent $4 on some temporary parts that worked great for a couple rides.

Bald Mountain: Attempt 3 - Big Levels 4x4 Trail on a Kawasaki Versys-X 300
Переглядів 2423 місяці тому
My 3rd attempt at completing this entire route. I made it super high, but wasn't in the mood to do water crossings that late in the day without camping gear. Bloody rock garden, but I'm making awesome progress getting braver. I keep breaking my shift lever, though, I need to find a way to protect it, maybe raise the bike or an smaller after market one. Anyway, next time I hope I complete the wh...
Crabtree Waterfall - Motorcycle Ride on Highway and ATV Trail, then a Hike to an amazing waterfall

During Hurricane Helene, I drove to Crabtree Waterfall through heavy rain, but my dirtbike boot started leaking. I didn't want to drive for hours with wet feet hike for miles with rain gear except for my feet, so I turned around. This was my 2nd attempt, and it was a good choice since the weather was sunny and warm. Stopped by the Meadery again, picked up some vanilla tasting mead & more local ...

I bought: - 2x 25mm ammo cans from a military surplus store ($22 each, so $44) - 2 strips of aluminum, 1 corner one from Lowes, and then 1...
Motorcycle Hammock Camping in the Rain Near Flagpole Knob, Virginia on a Kawasaki Versys-X 300

Heard Flagpole Knob was one of the highest places in Virginia / West Virginia, is near a lake with campground, and has a bunch of ATV trails. So... of course I had to explore it. SOO MANY CAMPSITES. I'll have to come back here and properly examine all of them. Trail was marked as a Level 2, but because of weather, it was a 4. Still, fun. My first time Motorcycle Camping as I usually just drive ...

Broken Down In Wilderness, But Man, It's So Pretty!
Переглядів 725 місяців тому
Attempting to explore the lower Rapidan Camp wilderness, and various campsites. When I attempted to cross a broken culvert, my bike wouldn't go into gear. In true "Vibey Bike" fashion, it had literally vibrated the sprocket bolt off. I didn't know this at the time, but even if I did, I couldn't fix it without finding the bolt on the trail. I hiked 9 miles out, being rescued by my older daughter...

Last time I came on my Zero FXE street bike. I gave up after 2 miles. This time, I was determined to drive the whole thing, twice. I _did_ make it at least from start to finish this time, but the rock garden in the beginning wore me out. Aside from rocks and boulders, the 40% 60% tires got me through. Finally got the see the campground at the end, then got lost and found a watch tower with a gr...
South Pedlar ATV Trail on a Kawasaki Versys 300

Tested driving my new Kawasaki Versys-X 300 fully loaded with camp gear. I loaded everything I normally take backpacking, save water, into the side cases and rear pannier. I didn't feel the weight, it was only the air on the highway that was a little "off". Either way, super impressed with these tires and super impressed with this "do it all" bike. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

We've hiked this area before like Big Schloss, Little Stoney Creek, and car camped at Wolf Gap. However, we've never done this trail and heard the view up top was nice. It was, as was the view on the way up. Interestingly, this trail is short, but has 2 payo...

Waste of time video! Anyone with half a brain can Google the specs on the Versys X 300 and the CF Moto and read that the Versys weight is measured as wet weight and the 450 MT is stated as dry weight ! Manufacturers who want to hide the actual on road weight often only quote dry weight ! D'oh!

Potentially the Worst youtube video Ive ever seen. So many things are bad....but the worst part is the he is wayboff the weight of the MT. It weights 430 lbs wet

To give you an idea how much this trail has deteriorated (or improved...depending on your point of view), in the late 1960's I would take my VW Beetle up the entire thing. 🤣😂 I was always amazed at how much sand and water there was near the top. The last time I was through there was a few years ago on an F800GS. One of the other guys, on an R1200GS from NY, had a set of spoke wheels installed along with a set of very aggressive tires. The mechanic used the rear wheel bolts from the cast wheels to install the spoke wheels. Not good, as the bolts for the spoke wheels were longer than for the cast wheels. He rode off of his rear wheel in a muddy ditch neat the top. We found a couple of the bolts that had worked their way out along the trail and had to scrounge another from one of the other GSs. They continued on toward Crabtree Falls and went down Shoe Creek on the back of the falls. This was before that road was closed. Quite a ride!

She overheated with my daughter on it during a 2 hour commute to the beach at 94F, in a tunnel but litterly 10 seconds later, we blasted out of the underwater tunnel up to 40mph, and it immediately turned off; I guess the radiator got some wind. I changed the coolant and cleaned it out with distilled water, now she runs so much cooler, even in 90F+. Still... makes me nervous, lol, I can feel the heat on my legs on hot days, which is fine, I just get worried when carrying a passenger. I read the forums, and EVERYONE says what you said, they run hot, I just get so nervous I'll break her. I heard a rumor that changing the air filter can help too, so bought that Greek racing one some Versys-X owner on UA-cam was talking about; hoping that helps too.

Almost 15,000. I put about 10,000 on the first year, but because of a job change, I only did about 10 miles a day for 4 months. Then I bought a Kawasaki Versys-X 300 and use that mainly as my commuter and off road bike, so only use the Zero FXE for shopping, running around town, and when the temp is about 95F outside and I have to take my daughters somewhere. Keep in mind the FX and FXE do _not_ have fast charging standard like the S and DX lines, so you're looking at 9.5 hours from 0% to 100%. For commuting to work, that's fine; I get there with about 40% and can leave work in 2-3 hours if I had to leave early, but otherwise, she's perfect for city commuting, just not travelling like you'd do in a Tesla/electric vehicle using superchargers, or longer at ChargePoint. I could spend the $700, $1,400, or even $2,100 to get 3 fast chargers, but... dude, I already spent $14,000 lol so yeah, no.

I have a Versys300 as well and have an Ibex 450 (450MT) on order, hoping it is all the things UA-cam says it is. I was able to sit on a demo model at the TouraTech Rally in June and it didn't feel as light as my Versys, but didn't feel heavy either. I was chatting with someone in AUS that also came off a Versys 300 and he said it is as light and flickable as his 300. I think 44hp is plenty, especially at a little lower RPM than the 300. I guess I will see soon, end of Aug is the rumored delivery time.

You use lighter components, Instead of a metal seat bracket you use plastic, instead of a 7/8 inch steel tube you use 3/4 inch tube for parts It's pretty easy to make up the weight. It also has a 270 degree crank so the weight on the flywheel can be a lot lighter to create a similar balance. The weight on a motor 150 cc more honestly isn't that much more, especially when you use lighter components. Add cylinders and that's when you start to add weight because you need a lot more parts per cylinder to balance it and make it operate.

D'oh ! It ain't rocket science! CF Moto are only quoting dry weight on the 450 ! When you fill it up with fuel it weighs 195 kg ! That's 20 kg heavier than a fully fuelled 300X Kawasaki 🤣

Congrats on the FXE! Super fun bike but I try to avoid German Autobahn and keep to the smaller roads. Less wind, more fun, better range. Not really fun going much faster than 110kph/70mph with the very upright body position. Range will improve a little bit over the first dozen full charges.
