Erik Satie, Gnossienne No. 1
에릭 사티의 그노시엔느 1번입니다. 사티의 피아노곡은 어렸을 때 잘 몰랐습니다. 성인이 되고 나서야 듣고, 익히었습니다. 대부분의 곡들이 몽환적인 느낌을 자아내면서, 연주하기에도 비교적 쉽습니다.
어쩌면 사티는 프랑스의 포스트모던 문화와 철학을 자신의 음악에 녹여낸 것이 아닐까 싶습니다. 파격적인 악곡 형식과 더불어, 기괴한 제목, 연주 방식, 분위기를 일부러 조성하였다는 점에서 말입니다. 그는 상식을 깨고자 하였으며, 기존의 클래식한 문법에 반기를 들곤 하였던 사람이었습니다.
그래서 그런지, 그의 음악은 뭔가 어두컴컴하면서도 깊은 울림이 있습니다. 마르크스가 그러하였듯이, 쇼펜하우어가 그러하였듯이, 에릭 사티의 말년도 평탄하지 않았다고 합니다. 거의 홀로 칩거하다시피 살았던 그가 무엇을 느끼며 생각했을지 궁금할 따름입니다.
때로는 슬픔이 기쁨보다 더욱 창조적인 영감을 선사하기도 하나 봅니다.
This is Gnossienne No. 1 of Eric Satie. I didn’t know about him when I was young. I knew all of his pieces after restarting the piano. His compositions are dreamy and easy to perform for me.
Maybe, Satie wanted to reflect his philosophy and thought on his musical world. He was deeply related to the postmodern trend. Including preposterous forms of composition, grotesque titles or methods of playing, and eerie atmosphere, these were the kinds of representations that broke common ideas of the time.
Then, I can feel dark but reverberative from his pieces. Like Marx and Schopenhauer, Satie also had tragic life at the end of old age. I wonder how he felt and experienced in that situation.
Sometimes, sorrow has more power to inspire us than joy.
