PENN STATE BLUE BAND - Halftime Show at the Alamo Bowl (onfield drumline POV) 2007
I've been meaning to upload this for a long time. The halftime show from the 2007 Alamo Bowl. It's a shortened version of a West Side Story show we played earlier that season. There were no GoPros in those days... I taped a point & shoot camera to my carrier and hoped for the best!

Triplet Timing, Karn Evil 9, Parade Order. Not too shabby for the first week as an ensemble - there are some fun notes in there too!

8's, Accent Tap, Triplet Timing (rolls), Pocket of O Beats. A few thick spots - but not bad for the second or third week as a line.

Hanging out in the Power V, listening to the winds run some of Tonight. Also, Dr. Bundy has a sweet hat.

Parade Order at Corner. The roll going into The Jam is pretty winning. And I always liked the sequential snare visuals.

I don't remember when this was. It appears to be a combination of the versions from Blast! and Cadets.

If I remember correctly, it was VERY cold and wet that day.

Some more fun notes. One of my favorite passages of BB music, towards the end: 4 eighth notes, diddles on "& 2 &" into an 8th note 5:4 tap roll over the barline (in 3/4) into an 8th note triplet tap roll, ending with two accented 8ths into the downbeat.

The Pines of the Appian Way. Love the sousas. Did you catch it? This is why we can't have nice things. Nice roll at the end though.

How in sync this group is speaks of dedication all the drum sections are on point the best I've seen
Thank you so much!
LETS GO STATE! Proud to be joining Penn State Marching Blue Band in 2023!
Diggit kapow (Very cool to hear, I hope you enjoy it!)
Rip Doug Bast
Oh if only drumsticks could dance - perfectly choreographed!
@TheMokeleMbembe - Thanks 👩🏻🦳🌼
Takes me back to the '80s when I was a member of the Marching and Concert Blue Bands as well as the Basketball Band.
The snares are great but please show the rest of the line.
Were I filming this today, I'd def get more coverage. However this was my dad filming us when I was on the snareline, so, y'know...
Can you say cross fire, holy hell, bad
What year is this?
This one's from the end of the 2003 season.
This is a great video to show to my students.
I'm glad we can serve as a model! (Hopefully a good one)
This is like the opener to metamorph
This version of Parade Order's beginning is basically the same as the one from SCV's cadence Electric Wheelchair. Both that and Metamorph (I'd imagine, given how it goes) took from Steve Gadd's intro to "Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor" by Chuck Mangione. That intro was itself based on an old rudimental solo called Crazy Army.
12 Snares
Yes indeed! It was a challenge to clean sometimes, but also fun to play in that large a line. Plus, the 2007 line only had one true rookie on snare (who I think had marched Surf already and would go on to play bass for the Cadets), so that aggregate skill level helped.
@@TheMokeleMbembethat's very very cool. The drumline sounds great! Penn State is such a great school to go to; especially in regards to playing in drumline/marching band vs. me. I went to a boring and crappy university that had no marching band. I enjoyed both clips and Im sure that you all had a lot of fun playing your show. And thanks for posting.
Listen to this through bass speakers. I love those bass drums and how they're tuned.
I got to march to the blue and white game with them and the cadence is amazing so much chanting jumping and energy I’ll never forget it
Electric wheechair mashup?
Gregory Sousa they call it parade order
@@bryan3754 they play select parts from it though. Wrong sticking and watered down. they double most the notes
@@zidanesousa18 Parade Order has been the name of the PSU cadence since the 80s at least. It used to have a different beginning (and evolved in other ways), but sometime in the early 90s it was changed to incorporate the Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor/Electric Wheelchair intro, as well as the Jam section from Wheelchair (which was itself based on a short drum break from Sting's 'Englishman in New York'). And yeah, in Parade Order, the singles that SCV plays at the end just became a roll. Sometimes we'd split it (as in this video). We did at one point work on cleaning the left handed 16ths into 32nd note singles but there was too much else to focus on so it just fell by the wayside. Also, just speaking of parts of other cadences that are incorporated, the tenor independence groove is from an old BD cadence called 'Dick.'
@@TheMokeleMbembe Thanks for the insight! love it! would love to see more footage if you got it
@@zidanesousa18 I'm gonna try to get a hold of more when I can (this was mostly filmed by my dad when I was in the drumline, so it's on tapes packed away somewhere)
PSU Blue Band - Pagliacci (50 Subscriber Special)
Good music
You know the base sound of the cadence hasn't changed for the Blue Band from the 90s. They just added different things to it.
Now...if they only get some uniforms that don't look like they came from 1890.
When was this video taken?
Sometime in 2006, I believe.
@Kyle Sill Yeah, Parade Order has been around since the 80s, and it's sounded pretty much like this (with minor tweaks) since like the 90s
psu owes vanguard money
Interesting, um, percussion :D
Is it just me or does everyone in the line have a pointed nose ?
Omega_Ronan ye
To be fair, Brett's mom was pretty hot.
Awesome!
This an old cadence man!!! Love it!!!
Talk about high snares
WE ARE!
Go PSU!
Isn't one of those cadences called Legend?
Sort of - the beginning is adapted from a Santa Clara Vanguard cadence called Electric Wheelchair, which was based on Steve Gadd's beat from Legend of the One-eyed Sailor
Electric Wheelchair
This is electric wheelchair.
Evan Goodson the beginning is, but it changes
I love it when you can see the 1st trumpets shoving the mouthpieces so far into their lips that they are leaning back. It's just funny.
Yeah, my high school band (which also included from 7th grade on up) was the same way. It took some getting used to when I got to university, but was very cool.
The ones standing in the front row(s) are. There are a ton in Blue Band. (But not so many that *everyone* in the shot is one, if that was your question.)
2003. Any particular reason?
what year is this from?
Prone early 2000's. I noticed the tunnel for Penn State doesn't have the gate in front of it.
@@jaredklock8754 It was 2003
@@TheMokeleMbembe Thanks.
Ive watched alot of cadence videos but the only cadenceing i like r the ones from my school but i have to say this is the first cadence video thats not my school that i actially really like
