The Symbolic Unveiling of Good and Evil: Dr. Peterson's Interpretation
Lecture: Biblical Series IV: Adam and Eve: Self-Consciousness, Evil, and Death Part XXV.
Dr. Peterson delves into the symbolic unfolding of awareness, vulnerability, and the capacity for harm as represented in the biblical story of Adam and Eve. He articulates how the narrative potentially showcases the introduction of the Jungian shadow into the human psyche, making individuals more substantial. Through personal anecdotes and philosophical speculation, Dr. Peterson explores the theme of being tested to become stronger, hinting at a divine orchestration to foster human growth and distinction between good and evil. He emphasizes the devastating effects of deceit and the liberating power of truth, providing a nuanced exploration of moral and existential themes rooted in ancient stories.

    I'm afraid Peterson is psychologically wrong. Nietzsche and not least Dostojewski contradict him most strongly on his point. Raskolnikow acted against a secular law and to this law only he submits. In a moral sense he did not regret anything, did not feel any remorse throughout the intire course of the story. While refering to his Genealogy Of Morals, Nietzsche once said: _..the psychology of conscience.. is not, as you may believe, the voice of God in man; it is the instinct of cruelty, which turns inwards once it is unable to discharge itself outwardly._ A murder is an outward action. Dostojewski shared four years one bedroom with murderers in a Sibirian prison camp. Discribing his experience in the House of the Dead he said: _… during many years I never remarked the least sign of repentance, not even the slightest uneasiness with regard to the crime committed._ Raskolnikow never lost his self-respect. That is what the book is all about. Here are his words in the epilogue of Crime and Punishment: _Oh, sceptics and halfpenny philosophers, why do you halt half-way! Why does my action strike them as so horrible?_ he said to himself. _Is it because it was a crime? What is meant by crime? My conscience is at rest. Of course, it was a legal crime, of course, the letter of the law was broken and blood was shed. Well, punish me for the letter of the law... and that's enough. Of course, in that case many of the benefactors of mankind who snatched power for themselves instead of inheriting it ought to have been punished at their first steps. But those men succeeded and so they were right, and I didn't, and so I had no right to have taken that step._

    When will Jordan practice his advice with himself. He constantly demands that his word is infallible, but he actually tried to be deceptive even before this video was made. Look at how he started trying to deceive the courts in 2009 regarding the Sordi case. At the same time Jordan will not address that DURING SUSPENSION, LICENSEES MAY NOT PRACTICE PSYCHOLOGY OR REFER TO THEMSELVES AS PSYCHOLOGISTS. As indicated above in "Probation," suspensions are considered disciplinary actions associated with probation orders and, as such, are public information and provided to consumers upon request. Jordan is a Jim Jones or David Koresh wannabe. He is an entertainer not a psychologist. Because he sells books and videos and lectures, THAT IS NOT THERAPY. He needs to address his bad conduct in courts in the case of Case 1 Sordi v. Sordi, 2009 CanLII 80104 (ON SC) he defamed a parent in court. In the case 2 R. v. Pearce, 2012 MBQB 22 (CanLII) he tried to free a murderer. Then in the case Peterson v. College of Psychologists of Ontario, 2023 ONSC 4685, he tried to avoid taking responsibility. He also tried to interfere in a family court case in Montana, the Kolstadt case, where there was a GAG order, he unprofessionally diagnosed a minor without interviews or assessments, and tried to defend unfit parents.

    Subjective morality would mean morals are based on opinions, not facts. Meaning there are no objective moral values or duties. However, to accept this means you have to willfully live a delusion. You would live pretending that there is right and wrong, when you know there isn’t such a thing. I don’t advocate lying to yourself.

    • @Mxxx-ii9bu
      @Mxxx-ii9bu 2 місяці тому

      My subjective morality is based on my (subjective) assessment that morality consists of reducing harm/increasing well-being. Once I set that as a goal I use the facts of our existence to differentiate between immoral acts, morally virtuous acts, and amoral acts. No delusion as I'm not pretending that there is a right and wrong - right and wrong is directly related to the reduction of harm and/or the increase in well-being. Completely honest. I don't think you have a complete understanding of how secular moral systems work.

    The zone of proximal development represents what a learner is capable of doing on their own and what they are capable doing under guidance from a more skilled mentor. Vygotsky stated that a learner's capabilities are expanded while being guided by a more skilled peer. It is a concept from Childhood Development studies and educational psychology. It has little to nothing to do with self-improvement. Peterson's misuse of the definition of this concept makes his argument complete bullshit. It sounds true, but it's completely invalid. He is the perfect example of someone who's delivery sounds good, but his arguments can be dismantled with about 5 minutes of fact-checking.

    • @isaaccarroll3528
      @isaaccarroll3528 11 днів тому

      Zone of proximal development was a term coined by Vygotsky later in life, and never experimentally validated by him due to his death. To say it has little to do with self-development or self-improvement is removing the context of what Vygostky was trying to figure out. Which was 'how can children best improve and grow', and to test PIaget's theories of independent learning. Peterson is discussing the original conceptual thought (being that growth occurs in a limited bounded space beyond our current capabilities), and synthesising our advances in neurosicence and biology to take what Vygotsky hypothesised and make it practical for an individual (something which is still noted to be an issue for this theory files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1081990.pdf ) I suspect you're not a fan of Peterson, but I'd encourage you to imagine if this was being said by someone you instead liked, and see what value you can take from it. You are right that the original theory included peer assistance from someone who is more capable, but Peterson is applying the theory back towards the individual growing and investigating what is happening to them, and trying to understand what is happening within themselves. They are not mutually exclusive. Additionally, Vgotsky's theories not being investigated before death could mean that while guided assistance is highly beneficial, it doesn't preclude individually led growth through the same conceptual framework - which likely becomes more necessary as you grow into adulthood and are less likely to have a paternal/mentor/teacher figure to guide you and assist you in growing (which tends to occur post-university life). tldr; Not bullshit, but requires abstract thinking and combining multiple sources of understanding, investigate seriously and see what can be useful for you, rather than throwing the whole thing out because you don't like the person saying it.

      I.. don't get what you mean? The point of crime and punishment was just to illustrate that there's practically no situation in which murder is okay, no matter how well you try to rationalize it. Don't know how you could extrapolate any of what you just said from that

    No. it's not a complicated question at all. A genuine atheist is someone who doesn't believe that gods exist. Peterson seems to think that human beings operate on pure logic functions and are obliged to act on the basis of absolutes. Reskolnikov is a clunky construction of a human being that only serves as a vehicle for Dostoyevsky to preach his flawed understanding.

    I think atheism takes as much faith as anything..... Just my thoughts...... I don't have the answers though..... I'm just a seeker trying to figure out this thing like everyone else.... If they're truthful.

      Atheism is a lack of faith in a god/gods, Matt just explained what it is. And that's all it really is. Now it sure leads to more thoughts, but in it's essence, and basic meaning, no faith is involved in a lack of faith.

      @@VoiceOf1CryingInTheWilderness who said there is no god ? We’re just saying we don’t believe in god/gods. Do you believe in the Zoroastrian god ? No ? Well I see your god just like you see the Zoroastrian god.

      @@Raptor3388 your misuse of the English language is interesting, but typical of today's society. A theist is someone that believes in at least one God. Adding that magical "a" to the beginning of the word in question changes it to the opposite meaning. So the word Atheist means someone that believes God does not exist. Which takes a lot of faith, if you ask me.
