    Thanks for posting this video even though it has been up six years! First time I had seen footage of the Foyt/Cogan incident which appears to me either Cogan moved down or Foyt drifted into his left rear... what a mess for Cogan as his career really got off to a bad start.

    As they mentioned, the next year (1983) CART did add more road races. The last race of '83 was their first year at Laguna Seca and the beginning of 18 years of working on the pit lane for CART, one of the most enjoyable and exciting times of my racing life. Unfortunately a time cut short by politics, but I'm thankful for the friends that came into my life during that time

    4:00 Middle school Al jr...lmao. christ he looks like he should be getting ready for a little league baseball game, not driving one of these monsters.

  • @danhirtle7825
    @danhirtle7825 4 місяці тому

    What the video fails to mention is that after Al Jr's morning warmup crash and frantic effort to get the car back together the SCCA let him take the track solo for a few shakedown laps during the break prior to the final race. There was no other sound other than his car and on his second lap he tried to take turn 2 flat, lost the rear, chopped the throttle for a millisecond as the car wiggled a bit then right back in it. Next lap he was flat through the same turn and the crowd went nuts. Those days were cool as they would run an SCCA National on Fri/Sat mixed with the CanAm event on Sat/Sun. I was wrenching for a buddy on his H prod Sprite and we all got pit passes for the whole weekend. Good times.

    Stirling Moss rated him as the greatest driver , and those were the days when racing was really dangerous , unlike today , when playing dominoes is more hazardous .

      @kartikeybhatia1423 9 місяців тому

      Lol racing is still dangerous today, yes not as much as before but that’s because of the safety measures implemented and nothing wrong with that, that’s always meant to happen.

    • @stuartbritton4811
      @stuartbritton4811 22 дні тому

      It is safer today, yes, of course. Drivers today don't have to be made of the same stuff, now, though. They are not the brave heroes that they should be. They just have stronger neck muscles, be very fit and have computer brains. They don't need to be sportsmen nowadays. They need to conform.and comply with political correction. y@@kartikeybhatia1423

    I never knew Jenner did commentating....better at this that pit reporting which was beyond cringe. What do you think the odds you could have gotten from Paul Page if you'd have bet him that the man sitting with him doing color commentating and the olympic gold medal winner in the decathelon would one day in the future be a woman named Kaitlin? Anyway, I think in the dictionary under 'race car driver' there should be a picture of Rick Mears...absolutely the quintessential driver and the best of the best era of American open wheel racers. Even the name sounds fast.

    Fangio came to European F 1 racing at an age when today’s F 1 drivers are retiring. Fangio was a true gentleman driver and always raced fairly and whatever team he was racing with he always got the best out of car. A very respected world champion.

    The most impressive thing about Fangio’s accomplishments isn’t his 5 championships, IMO. It’s participating in those insane 15 to 20 day South American open road capital-to-capital races in the 1940s, and winning them.

      That's really no surprise. Everything I've ever read of him said he was an absolute gentleman. Unfortunately, his style has gone out of style. That is missed in today's society (at least by the old guys).
