    竹弓では握りの下を持って弦を張ったほうが良いと思います。 張るときは押す一方で、本弭を引き上げるようにした方が、弓の成りを変えずに済むと思いますよ。

I'm left handed. I typically hold the bow in my right hand and draw the arrow back with my left. Would this be allowed when practicing this form of archery?

The bows are absolutely beautiful! And the form of his shooting is so beautiful, as well. Firing an arrow in kyudo is like meditation, isn't it?

Just picked up two of these beautiful bows on the Tokyo flea market for less than 2000 yen! What a bargain! No strings with them so I'll have to make that. Also on one of the bows, an endblock is missing. Also not a problem, I can make that too. Maybe I'll even find some arrows next time... ;)

Obviously, if it's in a war, the trained archer would shoot the arrows faster just like a normal archer. The guy in this video just want to show how it is like to use the yumi bow. Think of it as a ceremonial shot. Use that fucking smart brain of yours, and don't just go bashing around :)

Really? He's using a Mediterranean technique shooting an arrow that's too light (dangerous for any bow, and you can tell the noise of firing) and he's shooting from the wrong hand, there's nothing good about this weaboo bs.

With a minimum of quick search googling, it can easily become clear that kyudo, as practiced in this form here shown by Jap, is neither for hunting, nor for speed-shooting, but is a traditional Japanese contemplative- mindfulness practice - paying attention to detail and movement and timing in a particularly 'active-meditative' manner, incorporating movements and actions that may have symbolic as well as practical meanings and purposes - Besides, the kyudo bow was indeed used in battle in the old days, and there are ways to shoot with it that can also perform well more than eight arrows in the time span seen here - The world is full of lots of things unusual and peculiar... what makes it all interesting and worthwhile is when we show interest in learning and in trying to understand what is new to us, but maybe not to others -
