New Season, New Reel, Another Inshore Slam | Matlacha/Pine Island, Florida
The season has changed, and the fishing along with it! For the next several months we’ll have ultra low tides, clear water, and either very windy or very calm days.
Headed out to just have some fun and catch a few fish. Also wanted to test out my new reel, the 13Fishing Concept TX2. I was only out for a couple hours, but caught a MINI inshore slam, along with a couple "trash" fish.

CCC Recreate - Jiggin With Jordan Style Fried Fish

If you’ve ever watched Jiggin with Jordan do a catch clean cook, you know that he admittedly only uses one recipe - Frank’s Red Hot as a binder and Uncle Buck’s for the coating. We’ve wondered if the recipe is worth it, and set out to test it. Headed out to catch fish to cook, hoping to avoid storms from a recent front. After getting the keepers needed, ended up with a small Inshore Slam. The r...

    Great video. Lure reviews are good but personally I think head to head comparisons like this are even more useful. Have you tried either of these against a classic old Zoom fluke? In my experience, the action is fantastic and I almost always catch a lot of fish regardless of whether it’s salt or freshwater but one thing I don’t like is just how many Zoom flukes I have to go through as they’re not very tough. I know Zman’s supposed to be much more durable but haven’t used them enough to confirm. Curious how tough the NLBN plastics are?

    I don’t think it’s a matter of being a go to lure. It’s all about the scenario in what you are doing and trying to accomplish based on the situation. There are times where the mini mullet, lil mullet, big mullet are the best choice. There are times where a bucktail is the best choice and so on. The mini is a great bait though

    • @PorterFishing
      @PorterFishing Рік тому

      I see what you’re saying and agree that different lures can work better than others in different scenarios. To me a “go-to” lure would be one that I know I can throw in almost any scenario and catch fish. If I wanted to go on a quick trip with minimal gear what lure would I bring? In my area I think that would be a paddle tail or 4-5” jerk shad. I can use both of those on the flats, under docks, or along a shoreline and feel good that as long as I present them properly I will do well.

    • @Pmckh
      @Pmckh Рік тому

      @@PorterFishing no, I knew exactly what you meant by the “go to” statement. We all have something like that we are comfortable with but my point was regardless it still depends on the scenario. Yes, a white paddle tail is one of the most versatile baits out there and will produce in most situations. Does that mean it’s always the best, of course not. We all go out already rigged with what we think will work to start the day but if I get out and read the water a certain way I won’t hesitate to change before even making the first cast

    I'm getting into trying chatterbaits for the saltwater. Recently I moved to the Chesapeake Bay area and got a kayak. So far I haven't had any luck with the chatterbaits except for the Z Man WillowVibes, I caught a big croaker on one with a Gulp tail. I think they should be great for dirty water to catch flounder and redfish around the marshes, but I've only tried on the flats a little. The Bass Pro in Hampton has the Jackhammers with all the other chatterbaits, but they don't have the plain ones without a skirt and a regular blade. I want to try them, and the Texas Eye rigging hooks, but I can't find them around town. Time to order stuff I guess. I guess I could remove the skirt from a classic chatterbait, but I want the tougher hardware for the saltwater and braid. Cool video, thanks for showing chatterbaits in the saltwater, I think they could be awesome in the right situation.

    • @PorterFishing
      @PorterFishing Рік тому

      I agree; a lot of stuff can be used in fresh and saltwater. I put more significance into the casting ability and presentation than I do any particular bait. I have caught fish on pretty much anything in the right situations. That's not to say some stuff is better than others, but it's fun and a challenge to try different lures. I feel as though the challenge is what makes fishing fun time and time again! Best of Luck!

      Lots of people use baitcasters in the saltwater. I have a Penn Squall 300 that's perfect for lots of saltwater baits. I especially like using them for jigs 3/8 oz or heavier. The Salt Strong guys, Flats Class TV, John Skinner (famous flounder/fluke jigger) all teach people to use baitcasters for lots of saltwater applications. I really want one with a flipping switch for flounder jigging, being able to let out line easier would be awesome in my kayak. I'm thinking about an Abu Garcia or Quantum Accurist because they're affordable and expensive doesn't make sense on a kayak. My Penn Squall is sweet but I don't want to lose it and a flipping switch reel would be better.
