    On the part of the animals: The animals, which had been exploited and mistreated for years, could not be released back into the wild after Adams' death and a notary commissioned to do so tried to rehouse the animals. If the animals could not have been rehomed, they would certainly have been killed. Some of the bears were sent to Carl Hagenbeck in Hamburg. Seizing wild animals is always problematic: ‘A fat animal is a dead animal’
