Dusty Mason, at Artisan Stoneworks in Sellersville, PA performs Slippery Rock Creek, written by "Dusty" Ben Purscell, Dan Vaillancourt and Bob Johnston in 2007. Another song played on grandpa(in-law)'s 1938 Gibson L-00. The song was written at songwriting retreat. When co-writer Bob Johnston learned I was from PA he mentioned that he learned to swim here at a place called Slippery Rock Creek......

Performing an original song on grandpa's 1938 Gibson L-00. Buddhist trucker music, song title- Shoes, Size 10 1/2. Why didn't someone tell me my hat was on crooked? WARNING-Cowboy Chords.
This may be my favorite version of this tune. I live in Boston now, but you can take the girl out of NOLA, but you'll never get the N'awlins out of the girl. This song has so many of the things I remember from growing up in the 60s and 70s. Thank you and Leigh for making and sharing this.
What an incredible version of this song.
What was that
Nice demo of this power tool
Rest in the absolute energy of love sweet friend.
Does this exist in CD or MP3 form somewhere? This is better than the standard version without the intro.
Little Queenie's "my dawlin' New Orleans" takes me home to the FQ. Queenie will live in the Quarter and in our hearts forever.
Sad day Sept. 21st, losing Leigh 'L'il Queenie' Harris to cancer. Damn cancer to hell! ~Rest her soul & spirit.
R.I.P. Lil Queenie. September 21, 219.
RIP, Little Queenie

Hay, I ain't grumpy, I've just got a wounded knee. I love you, old boy. sn
Can someone pleaaaase tell me the lyrics?? I can't figure some of them out and I love this tune! Thanks!
First heard this tune on the excellent HBO series Treme -- those guys have **taste** in music! Not that I wasn't already in love with N'awlins music of many types, being a jazz fan, but Treme just certified it for me. And L'il Queenie locked it. GO, girl! Seriously: anyone who loves Queenie & The Percolators should watch that show.
Her stuff is really good! She's about to 'transition' soon and her music is magical healing
joan! i'm just now seeing this! how are you? where are you? love you always xoxoxox
M. and D. -- Love the backpack!
(Mom's comment) WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!
Both great grands have just watched this and think they need to get down to N.O. REALLY SOON!
Gus is more stable than I am on a standard saturday evening
Hey Queenie, the ceiling fan thing in this video is a copy of Allen Parker, director. I've got the conker root too!
Hey Queenie, good luck to you, but the intro still sounds like Ron Cuccia, and the Jazz Poetry Group, including Ramsey Mclean -the most important song writer New Orleans didn't give credit to. Joan Staats
@dustymsn you rock, dusty. the final mix isn't out for commercial download right now, but i'd love to send you an MP3. please let me know where. thanks!
@liqueena Love ya LQ! You were no small part of my 70s-80s live soundtrack. Beautiful piece of songwork. Heard RC do a memorable reading of his poetry at Until Waiting Fills coffee house in the quarter early 80s. If ever you were to take to the road on a NE swing may I suggest The Sellersville Theater (Sellersville, PA, 2.5 hrs from NYC)? I have a stone art studio across the street, Artisan Stoneworks. I'd have to insist on cooking dinner for you. Gratitude Dusty Ben Purscell (versions on cd?)
let me clarify-- this version of "my dawlin new orleans" was recorded 6 weeks after hurricane katrina by me and a group of new orleans musicians at dockside studios in lafayette louisiana for a compilation CD. it doesn't contain the final vocal or mix; you can hear that on the facebook little queenie fan page. i sang on 2 other recordings of this song: one w/ the percolators, and one w/ the jazz poetry group, on which poet ron cuccia performs the spoken word portion. thanks, LQ
What is the compilation CD? And is there someplace I can get it?
@GOG223 Thanks. I appreciate the kind comment...I'll pass it along to my grumpy co-writer, Steve Nickey.
I really enjoyed your song and beautiful sounding guitar.
I love this song. Heard it on WWOZ, and fell in love with it. I miss my city
Love it. Love the guitar too.
Nevermind the guitar, where do I get one of those hats!
Comeaux Caps in St. Amant, Louisiana (or amazon)...USA Made welding caps since 1973
Heya Shady...that's a Huss and Dalton DS. They're a small shop in Virginia. It's a better guitar than I deserve with my first position chords :-)
