    At my stamp club, we have seen collections rubber glued, stapled and scotch taped to albums. Sometimes collections that would have been worth a few thousand dollars. A few key issues were occasionally still worth 1/50th-1/100th of a sound copy.

    Very interesting. I suggest you explore Privately run posts offering mail services to supplement USPS services where USPS is underserving an area. One particularly interesting one that ran from about 2000 - 204 and served the suburb Wakiki in Hawaii was Hawaii Post. I lucked into an older collector selling off his collection that include these Private Post stamps on ebay (I asked about his pricing as he was offering excellent deals along with checking the Hawaii Post site which has still the stamp displayed for informational purposes). The creator of this private post was an Englishman living in Hawaii. He never produced mroe than 5000 of each stamp and the number of issues was modest - about 5 or 6 per year. Presently there is one operating Private Post in the US (this excludes those creates by collectors for sheer philatelic purposes) called Rattlesnake Island and provides postal service from mainland Ohio to the Rattlesnake Island. The covers featuring the very first 1966 stamps are valuable (a recent auction on ebay had one sold for about $180). Why? The first stamps were shortly discontinued after their production as the USPS sau they looked too much like their own stamps. Rattlesnake changed the shape to its signature triangle shape. The Private Post had stop running in 2010 with a few years break between the years of activity _ 1966 to 2010. However, a philatelist resumed the service and issuance of stamp on 2022. I am not sure how often it is used with the prevalence of email but I imagine there is some very infrequent use for parcels from the island to the mainland. The owner of this Private Post sells postal covers from 1967 - 78. Not sure where you can get postal covers after 1978.

    Typical, breaking everything down to slavery. The Mexican government did a lot of bad stuff against the Texans. So did the Indians. Fighting back was necessary! One thing that Mexico tried but that enraged the Texans was gun confiscation. The Texans didn't fight a war for slavery. There was a lot more to it.

      @@daneal9443 On the conditions to become mexican citizens, speak Spanish, convert to Roman Catholicism, but they didn't, and not only that but they also keep practicing illegal slavery and keep coming after the Mexican government tried to stop all illegal immigration. At least we mexicans didn't try to build a wall or shot Americans at first sight bc "land freedom" or whatever shitty ideals we had back then, the represion began when texans keep broking mexican law on mexican soil and started rebelling in a foreign country that they have colonized illegally, thats why the Mexican government was so punishing to the Texans, they weren't a foreign army to receive the honors or care of captured soldiers, in their eyes they were pirates and filibusters who illegally had come and tried to take Mexican lands by force. And despite that they respected children and womens lifes and honor a favor the Americans didn't show to the Mexicans when they invaded.

    The Mexican-Texans (Tejanos) actually joined to the AngloTexans (to figth Santa Anna´s despotism and cruelty) to be free from a pretty much careless and unitrested central Mexican goverment, we mexicans sadly neglected the north, but the Tejanos, who fougth for their freedom, gived their lifes in the Alamo, had their propieties lost by the razing of the mexican army, and valiantly fought in San Jacinto to win an independent and free nation were in turn betrayed by the AngloTexans who threaten them, then they make them leave their lands that they had held, worked, and defended for generations at gunpoint, and then started to lynch them for resisting, and most of them lost their lands and wealth to be taken by the Anglos most of who were people who didn´t figth in the Texas independence war, but arrived late to the figth and did not want to leave empty handed, or only came to settle and take the land after the struggle already had pass. They fougth for freedom, and in turn lost not only their hard worked land, but also their nation, as Tejas, now Texas became a state runned by Anglos, who despite their sacrifice for the new born nation despised them, and also became pariahs and traitors to their blood kind the mexicans, and many had to go back and forth despised by both Anglos and Mexicans. I cannot honor them for they are traitors to my nation, I respect their struggle and bravery at best, but at least I whould have hoped of an honorable nation to not have treated with such cruelty and despise, and then erasing from their history and memory the people who figthed and sacrificed so much for their land freedom.

    Very interesting. Especially about the small companies producing these stamps. Leven, what is the difference between a forgery and a reprint? Thanks for the video!

    • @LevenParker
      @LevenParker Місяць тому

      @GreatStampAdventure good question. A reprint is an additional printing pulled from the original engraving. A forgery is a new engraving designed to look like the original.

    • @GreatStampAdventure
      @GreatStampAdventure Місяць тому

      @@LevenParker Thank Leven, but is the reprint then regarded as a forgery/fake? Isn't a reprint an official, valid stamp? Or are reprints from "stolen plates" - or I guess the engraving is not yet the printing plate? Wow, I still know too little. I will also study a bit on Google, but usually an answer from someone who knows is mostly more reliable than answers from internet. 🙂 I hope I am not wasting your time!

    • @LevenParker

I am working on my collection to get it going after sitting idle for 30 years, except for just saving canceled stamps off envelopes. My son is also getting back into collecting after many years. I did have the original beginner album he had when he first started a couple of decades ago. He was happy to have it back. He thought it was lost. I have a quick question for you. Would war ration stamps from WW2 be considered to be Cinderella stamps suitable to keep with my collection. I have some of the ration books that my grandparents were issued along with those issued to my mother and her siblings.

      @LevenParker Місяць тому

      I have several books of war ration stamps I keep with my collection. Technically they aren't postage stamps, but I don't really care about collecting "rules" and I keep all kinds of stuff that doesn't belong in a stamp collection. So glad you are enjoying the hobby!

    Interesting commentary. Many large scale stamp shows around the country have what's known as a "What's in Your Attic" booth, or similarly titled. People can bring their collections in, for free, to have knowledgeable collector volunteers assess what they have. The vast majority of these old collections are of "sentimental value" only. Meaning that the collections were compiled by parents, grandparent, aunts & uncles, etc. Condition is also paramount as explained by the video presenter.
