All these old heads in here talking like current fire engines don't iperate off of electronics.

I find this cool and everything, this would make life easier when pumping, but is there a backup if electronics fail to keep pumping. Us firefighters are not known to be gentle with stuff. Equipment tends to get abused in some way or another.

SAM is a great system but the cost per unit is a big problem. Most departments can afford the price.

Pump operators SHOULD have their focus on the engine & pump operation. Incident command should have its focus on the incident. These are & should be completely separate functions. Electronic controls make for inattention & unreliable operation. Costs to acquire, repair & replace are often higher as well. No sale.

Gimmick. If your shop buys this…. RUN! And go apply at a UNION shop that doesn’t staff 2 people on engine.

From what I have been told, the SAM System also requires a WIFI connection to function. If this is true, what happens if you are pumping water, then you suddenly lose that WIFI Connection ? Does the SAM System shut itself down ?

That sounds great. What happens when the electronics take a dump? I’ve been doing this for 18 years, most of it as a driver/pump operator. We have two engines - one traditional mechanical valving, the other with electronically controlled and programmable valves. It’s pretty sweet! Until it died at a large scale live burn evolution. With the valves stuck in the open position. Guess which rig I won’t roll on a first alarm response (also a past Chief) no matter how much my board of commissioners threaten me. All I do is ask them how much their assets are worth if they get sued.

Seems like a good idea. If it fails, the person at the truck can open the valve, like they currently do now anyway.

See ? That's what they do. All day, every day. They gather around with their girlfriends and have chitchats about subjects they have NO business discussing in the first place. it's just a scheme to grab attention, because that's all they're really good at. Just search "Women in ( fire, tech, science, blockchain ) .... These little chitchat videos are EVERYWHERE on UA-cam. And it's all gibberish, because obviously they are incapable of doing these things themselves. So they rant about men and how they're being excluded because of their vagineers, while they're really just incompetent at these things. It's all so tiresome.

I believe the solution is to demand fires be more equitable. They discriminate against women. Fires should be limited to no bigger than women can handle, then the women wouldn't have to wear all the equipment that men have historically had to wear with all the bigger fires. We must demand that fires be no bigger than a small garbage can.

Women should be paid LESS than men for physical jobs since they are not able to complete the same volume and intensity of work.
