Don’t worry, it gets better 🫶🏼 The first few weeks of medical school are some of the hardest because you’re still figuring out your study strategies & getting used to the pace. You’ve got this!!

Here’s what I wish I knew my first year of medical school👇🏼 ✨Experiment with different learning tools and styles early on to find what works best for you - I personally loved using the Anking deck and making notesheets based on my school’s lecture material ✨Learn to say no to extra commitments to avoid overextending yourself (I personally overdid it my first semester, and I regret not giving myself more time to focus on studying and getting enough rest) ✨Take at least one half day off per week for mental health - burnout is a serious problem, especially in the preclinical years. Don’t underestimate it ✨Focus on understanding core concepts rather than memorizing every detail. Anything with a clinical correlation is going to be high yield ✨Shadow in different specialties, even ones you're not initially interested in. It will benefit you to know your specialty as soon as possible - I have a virtual shadowing playlist on my Yt channel if you need a place to start!

Realized I've been talking to patients more comfortably over the past few weeks & I’m able to come up with a good plan for a lot of them. Slowly but surely making progress on my psychiatry rotation 🥹

Did you know? In your third year of medical school, you will be asked to “present” patients to your attending. This involves researching the patient, going to see them, and then condensing all the information you get into a succinct presentation of all the important points. In addition, sometimes your attending will ask you to research a certain topic and do a small presentation about it the next day. If you’re thinking about going to medical school, be prepared for a lot of public speaking. This was something that really surprised me when I first started my clerkships, so I thought I’d warn you all 🤷🏻‍♀️
