A few tips on Vietnamese words. Bun should be pronounced like boo-oon (spoken as one syllable, but go down on the boo part and up on oon part). Switch the t and th sounds and vice versa. If you see the gi letters, think z. If you see tr or ch think j sound (not exact, but close enough). The letter d in Vietnamese can be d or y or z...LOL

Regarding the cop guarding Train Street, it's because a Korean tourist did something foolish last year and got hurt so they closed down the tracks to most tourists. Only way of getting on the tracks was if the cafe owner walked you in (which means you have to order something). But I saw a recent video where it looked like the tracks were opened again...

Looks like an awesome start to an amazing adventure! What'd you think about the cave? If you enjoy it, consider doing the caving in Phong Nha (check out the hour+ video "Tim and Fin" did a few years back or "2 Minute Films" did recently; you can also do the day caving like "One Pack Wanderers" did last year or just go visit Paradise Cave and Dark Cave if you don't want to do the caving).

FYI, your IDP needs to be for the class of vehicle you're driving as mentioned, but your country also needs to have signed the 1968 Vienna Convention (that means US, Canada, Australia, etc., are out for LEGALLY driving in Vietnam). So if the cops are being strict that day, know that they are in the right if they fine you and take the bike (most won't).
