This video is dedicated to Van Johnson by Jane Biggers. She not only is a huge collector of his, but also knew him, and wanted to create a video. She personally chose the pictures and the song to be used. She hopes you enjoy it!

The romance of June Allyson & Dick Powell. The pictures used are from my personal collection of magazines, scrapbooks, and photos. It seems to be written that they didn't have a perfect marriage...who does? What matters most, is that they truly loved each other. I hope you enjoy it.
Phyllis Thaxter...There she goes, again.

Many thanks for posting this short tribute to a marvelous actress. As you said, she was highly underrated. She was in one of the most touching and wonderfully acted scenes I've ever seen. It is in the movie,"Breaking Point". She played John Garfield's loving wife. After Garfield is terribly injured, she has to tell him that the doctors have to amputate his arm or he will die. Her acting is so genuine and heartwrenching. Just superb. She was excellent in almost every role I saw her play. Great actress. Rest in Peace Ms. Thaxter.

Dick Powell was quite a fellow!! He started out as the guy in the Busby Berkeley musicals..then he went on to tough guy film noir parts (did some great stuff)..and THEN his third 'incarnation".. he was a respected producer, founding Four Star. And June, with that husky voice, and that sparkling energy - and she did some fine dramatic work as well....this couple was really special. Thanks for this nice post.

We were neighbors so I'd always buttonhole him whenever I'd see him. He was always so charming. I'd always choose a movie or a star he'd worked with as topic for the day. I'd ask for the low-down and he was more than happy to oblige. Great sense of humor. I miss him.

I passed him one day in the 90's around east 54th street in Manhattan. He was carrying some dry cleaning over his shoulder. i said "excuse me, but aren't you Van Johnson"? He turned to me and said over his shoulder "Yeah". I assumed that was that, but then he added "I bet you thought I was Van Heflin, but he's DEAD".

Thank you for this wonderful tribute to June and Dick. June and Irene Dunne are two of my all time favorites. I was fortunate to meet June when she was doing dinner theater, and got to spend about a half hour with her in her dressing room. She was so charming and gracious. I was 20 years old and she was thrilled that someone my age was a fan. She invited me back the next night and comped me into the show. That night I brought an original Glenn Miller Story movie poster and some 8 x 10's which she signed, and I got a picture taken with her...and a kiss from America's Girl Next Door. I thought Jerry Lewis was a cad when he revealed, in his book, the affair between June (when she was married to Powell) and the affair of Dean Martin, and Gloria DeHaven, when both June and Gloria were still living.

Had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Johnson when he appeared at The Windmill Dinner Theater in Houston early 1980's, in "Send Me No Flowers". It was an honor as I was a big fan...I was 20 years old and loved the MGM films. He was very gracious and I think he was flirting, I was never sure. He kept saying, "I know I've seen you before." I had been on local TV that week. I still have the program he signed, You must check out the interviews with Mr. Johnson from soapbox, prod here on YT. Thank you for this.

Another underrated actress from Hollywood's Golden Age. My favorite of her films? Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (her first), as the caring, loving wife of serviceman Van Johnson. Also liked her in Jim Thorpe, All-American, Come Fill the Cup, Act of Violence, and The World of Henry Orient, among others. She was one of Hollywood's Girls-Next-Door. She is greatly missed.

Beautiful woman. I saw her in Hitchcock's 'Change of Address', with Arthur Kennedy. So many wonderful well-trained actors and actresses around at that time. Really great to watch. Phyllis Thaxter was talented and great looking. Stupid that he was trying to divorce her.

Hey Irene Dunne Fan - NIce to run into you again - How did I not get to be familiar with this lovely version of Both Sides Now? Judy Collins' version is what I know. Great footage with many of my favorites as well. Lovely moments of Phyllis Thaxter walking up the stairs (I wonder the film?) and Van Johnson, an under-rated actor, roaming the Parisian streets. Great to see and listen to. Thanks, again - Daniel

I did enjoy it. Thank you so much. An old love of my life, June Allyson was. Along with Lauren Bacall and Barbara Stanwyck, one of the greatest voices in the movies. What a doll. And he was no slouch either - the early musicals and his film noir anti-hero. Wonderful photos, many of which I'd never seen before. Thanks again. (Also keen on Irene Dunne, of course.)

I just watched an amazing short film... I should say that Ms. Thaxter was amazing! She may look like "the girl next door" but she had even me scared in "The Five Forty-Eight", an Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode based on a short story by John Cheever that was first published in The New Yorker. Check out the film here, on UA-cam! Wow!

Awesome! What a wonderful tribute to a lovely lady. It wasn't till about twenty years ago I first discovered June Allyson in a film titled, THE GLENN MILLER STORY. Great film and soundtrack by the way. But June's beautiful eyes and expressions in that film captured my heart instantly. Such a lovely woman.

IreneDunneFan I still adore June Allyson & Dick Powell. They were so good together. They were huge favorites of my parents. I doubt my folks ever knew they were married AUG. 19th. My parents were married Aug. 18, 1941. June & Dick got married in 1945. Despite serious challenges they always showed True Class. They stuck together til that tragic day Dick died well before his time. He reinvented himself many times long before it was popular to do.

Phyllis Thaxter died Tuesday ( 8/14/2012 ) so seeing your video is especially poignant. She was unsung. She was a fine actress. Your tribute to her, with the lovely lilting melody from Sixpence None The Richer, does Ms. Thaxter justice. Good job IreneDunneFan. I'm going to share your video with other film fans.
