My brother and I rode the Fire Dragon back to back all day once, I don't know how many times, but it was one of the best days of my life.
I say that's the king and highlight roller-coaster ride at the lagoon
You could put a good family thrill coaster where Whistlestop Park was (maybe a suspended coaster to make up for the inevitable removal of Batwing, but a boomerang would be almost ironic).
@@history_leisure You could move Johnny Rockets to the back near Superman and in that plot of land put in a family boomerang. But the former Whistlestop land is prime real estate
Solid review! We've been going for years, and the place never gets old. For Whistle Stop park, you are right. It's prime real estate. If they do plan on putting a major coaster in, they have that spot to use.
I'm the calm guy in the back, just smiling and enjoying the ride. No theatrics needed. 🎢
Wow I've never seen a coaster shooter before. That was really well done
On RCDB it says it was built by ART engineering. Was it really completely made by the park itself?
That looks awesome! It would have been better without the moron yelling "bang" every time he pulled the trigger.
the only unfortunate bit is its 3d is kinda crap
It wasn’t terrible imo at least for a park like Lagoon but I see where you are coming from
I know that ride at Lagoon
Haven’t you seen my score on the leaderboard?
Really good, but downright spectacular once you realize the park developed this in-house!
@@Lexcoaster yeah that’s what blew my mind. I was already shocked when Lost Island debuted Volkanu but to see this debut at Lagoon is extraordinary

I understand that you're playing devil's advocate with how they handled Kingda Ka, I really do. The way they would have to invest in it for the offseason would have been ridiculously high if it was going to be replaced soon. THAT SAID, it is inexcusable to do it this way in EVERY situation. We will be finding out soon that Six Flags is doing this even with rides not as complex and expensive as Ka, and that it is the norm. We will be finding out about multiple Carowinds (3) and KD losses (2) soon. I'm not joking. For them to just be doing this to what seems like is most parks this offseason IS going to affect the parks for years. Nothing leaving is getting announced. This will greatly sour many people's view of the parks and entire company. While yes. It will ultimately recover, and yes, maybe be better than ever, the cost that these parks will be losing from dissatisfied visitors will be greater than allowing customers their final rides on major rides for a final season. It costs very little to make an announcement. Farewell mech and ticket sales will likely cover the costs associated with the maintenance to give customers a notification. It worked for BBW. Bgw saw an incredible spike in attendance for that ride. We can agree to disagree, but some of these rides are not expensive ones to allow a final season, and the opportunities to save face by informing people in a more respectful manner are lost by not being honest. Telling people that a ride will definitely be operating for the following season when it is not is a straight up lie. Consumers will remember these lies.
Lmao at thoosies thinking they're important to parks. Parks care about the GP and the almighty dollar. Thoosies are insignificant
Do people really care this much about rides..get a life people
Yes....it shows greatly...
Rather than mimicking Reptillian, I do think it would have been a better choice to go the Tumbili route and use a Swahili translation."Namiri" means panther in Swahili as Tumbili means monkey. I think Tumbili was easy for people to remember because it sounds like tumble, which is what monkeys do. Namiri would also be easy to remember because it starts with nam which is very similar to name, which this ride has now had 3 names in 3 years and going with Namiri would have given more purpose to the consecutive name changes. I suppose they can try Pantherian and change it to Namiri in 2026, haha.
We have to see how this goes. Cedar Fair overall made the wrong decision with Volcano's closure and have been doing damage control ever since. They've fallen way below Busch Gardens in the public eye, and even GP that I've talked to have refused to go back because "They closed the Volcano." The good thing is that KD has significantly course corrected itself and put tremendous quality and care into every new addition since and the future is finally looking bright. Great Adventure is in a worse shape than KD was in 2018. The park is a husk of what it once was. If they don't take this opportunity to make dramatic changes then I worry for the long-term life of this park.
Sometimes things like that happen though. A bump in the road occurs (Volcano or Ka in this case) and the park will bounce back from it. As someone that grew up in the DC metropolitan, Busch Gardens has always been heavily favored over Kings Dominion in the public eye that much has not changed but still both are good parks and the things that Kings Dominion has been doing since 2014 have done nothing but improve the park significantly. I am sure Great Adventure can do the same.
@coasterfanatic3 they absolutely can. The question is will they? Great Adventure management has this far given me very little faith
I do believe that corporate will make Great Adventure one of there main parks. This is the biggest and best park in the New York area. New York has several smaller parks, but none are as good as Great Adventure. Yes the park needs to be cleaned up. It does need a lot of work, but I’m sure corporate sees the potential to have a great park near one of the biggest cities in the world.
You got a typo in your title. Should be close, not closed
Yeah I realized that and fixed it.
I think rapterra will be better than volcano it has good hangtime just like volcano and it'll have wayyy better uptime than volcano so I'm not trippin over rapterra
You can’t tell me the guy playing bagpipes in front of it wasn’t amazing tho
No, that was cool I did like that. There were parts of the send off that were incredible and some enthusiast handled it fantastically. This video was to address those that did not handle it well along with others that would enjoy some insight on the matter.
You bring up some good points that a lot of people don’t realize or even think of. However I personally think the backlash is worse now than it would’ve been had they just made the announcement sooner.
That’s a fair assumption and I understand where you are coming from even if I disagree.
They will never catch Seaworld ent. Or universal or Disney…. These people build experiences not just rides and when they do build rides they build great rides!!
Man cedar fair killing parks Lmmao killed kings dominion coasters now it’s killing ax flags coasters!
No they are not. They have not killed Kings Dominion coasters and they will not with Six Flags. Some coasters like Volcano and Kingda Ka have a shellfire due to the fact they are extremely high maintenance.
Any guesses as to what the new ride will be? Is it likely to be something unique or a clone of another ride. I would've even been okay with letting Kingda Ka sit there & not operate. Rather than lose KK, Green Lantern, and 3 other rides to make room for something new.
Not 100% sure besides it will be a record breaking multi-launch coaster. If it's that Mack Rides coaster that is rumored to go in that land, I would've liked it to be a full circuit coaster for layout and capacity reasons. Honestly I am curious to see what they will go with.
Didn't the former CEO say that he wanted less people in the park spending more money? Just like general politics, corporate politics has created division and hatred that has destroyed the peace of a whole nation. These parks seem to be more worried about public perception than quality and respect for its visitors, who without their support would cause these parks to go out of business. Cedar Fair has done so well that they had to merge with its main competitor to offset debt. The Kingda Ka, Zumanjaro closure handling was absolutely disgraceful. No, we should not be cursing executives just as we should not be cursing politicians that we disagree with. Respect goes both ways. Nobody should be afraid of being canceled for telling the truth, Period!
Yes, that was the former CEO Salim Bassoul. His method did not worked in helping improve Six Flags at the time. When the merger happened, Bassoul became the head of the board of directors while Richard Zimmerman, the CEO of Cedar Fair, became the CEO for the merged Six Flags company. The parks are focused on brining in guests but what keeps guests coming back? In this day and age, it's all about the quality of experience. "Can these parks be enough for me to spend my money here instead of Disney and/or Universal but still have a similar experience". It is all about catering to the families, meaning rides that everyone can enjoy, great entertainment offerings or other activities for those that do not care about the rides. Great quality food options instead of the typical cheeseburgers, pizza, and chicken tenders. All of these things Cedar Fair has been doing to improve their parks, which it has tremendously even if they still had debt issues which is a whole other complex story. Six Flags was late to the game on this because during the 2010s it was all about adding a ride to a park every single year. This was good at first until the rides became cookie cutter and there wasn't any enhancements done to the parks as a whole. When they tried to follow the Cedar Fair model, they executed it poorly that ended them losing more attendance then gaining attendance and the company was in a worse situation that Cedar Fair was.
@@coasterfanatic3 In my opinion, they could have closed Green Lantern a couple of years ago, along with Skull Mountain and Joker, Cyborg, etc. They could have taken the money and properly fixed El Toro the first time it made headlines and may have possibly avoided the horrible event that occurred on it in 2022. I remember when the lines for Kingda Ka were so long that they had to be shut down because of being maxed out. I have costly legacy memberships that abruptly increased in price without warning. Imagine if they had done the right thing and brought in the GiGa this year to go along with Ka and Toro? This park had the potential of equaling or exceeding the thrills of Cedar Point. Instead, we have broken promises, a promoted ride for this year that won't open until next year, not to mention, the debacle of Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point. Skull Mountain is outdated for this day and time and could have easily been replaced with a more up to date family coaster that would bring in more guests. if the security was better and ride staffing was better, than the park wouldn't smell like weed in public areas the way it did the last few years. Yes, you cannot please everyone no matter what, but when you show your clientele that you care about them and value and appreciate their business, then you don't have to worry about a lack of support, because people will spend their hard-earned money for quality over quantity. i am glad that I walked back there to Zumanjaro and got those rides back in April, because now it has unceremoniously been retired and is now defunct.
@@thomasnewcomb3632 I agree, tho I think they should keep Skull Mountain and enhance it in my opinion. But I do agree there are better ways to take care of the park that has not been done in previous years in my opinion and it has nothing to do with adding coasters. The park needs more entertainment, better food options (which they did this year to an extent) and needs a refresh on the aesthetics. One example is the queue lines and stations for the rides cough cough Nitro lol. Im curious to see how the park will be ran in the near future and see how they bounce back from this situation.
I’m not sure what your thought process is with the ‘don’t compare it to what it’s replacing’. That’s not how life works and it’s a very small minded way of looking at things. Of course people are going to compare the new ride to the old ride. As far as your whole opinion on people being pissed at the people in charge for making this decision, you just sound like someone who doesn’t see things from the public’s perspective and saying people can’t be pissed or criticize people for poor decisions or actions because they have a long career is again silly and small minded. That’s like saying a sports fan doesn’t know what they’re talking about because they haven’t played professionally. That’s not how it works
It is actually more small-minded to compare things to what they used to be rather than moving on. Judge a ride on its own merit and what the park wants to achieve, not on what used to be there just because "that ride had a special place in my heart so I will judge it on the old ride" because "how dare they remove a beloved ride". If you go into a ride with the expectations of it being on par or better than the previous ride, 95% of the time you will be disappointed as "it did not live up to expectations". There is a difference between criticizing and saying blasphemy statements like f*ck Zimmerman and "this is the downfall of Great Adventure".YOu can criticize a park I did not say you couldn't. If you watched the video I agreed that the park could have handle the situation better which is a criticism. I also never said pissed, I am disappointed at the reaction from enthusiasts because it is clearly based on raw emotion without any rational thought at all. Also, yes that is exactly how it works, the public/coaster enthusiasts have no idea how Theme parks are operated at all and only want to be catered to, that is small mindedness.
@ no I’m sorry you aren’t looking at things realistically. Everything is compared to what it replaces in every facet of life. When I replace something I and everyone else compares it to what it is replacing and when it comes to something that broke world records and closed with little notice and fanfare because the corporate behemoth that operates it wants to be cutthroat, the replacement better be at minimum on par. And I’m not sure what’s up with you calling it blasphemy to say something profane and rude about a multimillionaire corporate officer. Coaster enthusiasm isn’t a religion and the people in charge aren’t gods or disciples so, little bit weird there. Also, considering Mr Zimmerman is a multimillionaire and a businessman in the entertainment industry I think he and everyone else can handle a couple of coaster bros making some rude chants about him on the last night of operations for a world record breaking attraction that was also a state icon that is closing with zero notice. I did watch your video and you did criticize them for the closure but you followed it with a ‘but’ a few times and made a claim that if they gave it a farewell year the rude comments and nasty chants would have happened anyway which is just a) naive because people will always complain about change and b) you just making stuff up because those nasty chants and saying were clearly a reaction to the company and park not being truthful on the matter and downright lying about the ride not closing this year. It was good to see a take from someone who isn’t a big creator but I don’t think you’re on the right side when it comes to how you talked about fan reaction.
I feel like sure I may not agree with what six flags did, but yet again I don't know the exact reason why they shut it down.
That is a fair assumption
I feel like if they want to improve Great Adventure, then they should start with smaller things like removing the tacky advertisements or re-theming rides instead of removing their best coaster with a vague announcement of a “record breaking” launch coaster which could be the tallest, fastest, longest spinning coaster in NJ
They will prolly remove the advertisements too. I'm sure if they could keep Ka they would but the cost was just too great to deal with and the company saw that there was a better outlook on removing Ka and replacing it with something else rather than keeping Ka. We will know more about this coaster in the summer of 2025 so we will have to just wait and see.
Six Flags would have kept Ka and probably out did Top Thrill 2. Cedar Fair removing 6 rides at once is a disgrace. They own way to many parks everything was so much better with both of these companies separate. The cost to remove these rides and all the bad pr and new ride will cost far more than it was to maintain or upgrade KA. I don’t think you quite understand how bad it’s gotten literally anything Great Adventure posts on their social media platforms is flooded with complaints over KA. Dragster put a woman in a wheelchair the rest of her life yet that is still around. This just screams let’s eliminate anything that could outshine Top Thrill 2. You can’t compare valcano to KA people from all over the world came to great adventure for KA.
Dude this is not la la land. They did not remove Ka to make Top Thrill 2 the record breaker, that is childish and terrible for business. You think the PR is bad now imagine had they announced before its closure? The only thing I was comparing to Ka and Volcano was how special they were to the public and the outcry from it. Of course Ka is more special than Volcano I did not say they were the same. You clearly took the wrong points I was trying to make in the video. You think they want to remove rides just to remove them? The park would only remove rides if there was a necessary reason to. Sometimes it's better to spend the money to remove a ride and replace it with something else than it is to keep a ride running.
The funny thing is, people act like, Six Flags management, (aka, legacy cedar fair.), has the same attachment to Dragster. The people who run management now are completely different now than they were back then. The entire philosophy of management is drastically different than it was back then. Dick Kinsel was a coaster enthusiast and that was the philosophy back then. Even then, he said TTD was a huge mistake, because of the expense. Even Intamin doesn’t offer the hydraulic launch anymore. They obviously see the technology as not worth the expense to build and maintain. One of the reason people complain so much is they only see things from their own perspective. You have to see all perspectives and all sides to understand.
I would be willing to bet here was also a big issue with insurance as well - I am sure as they started to merge the SF parks into the CF insurers they were not too keen to insure a near twin of TTD which they had just had to pay out a large settlement for due to the accident - in their eyes KA was probably seen as nothing more than a huge liability
Potentially that could be it too, and on top of the expensive maintenance on the ride they just could keep the riding running. It sucks cause it did not get the proper set off but sometimes that's how the cookie crumbles.
Kingda ka has to go at some point. I know kingda ka deserved a better send-off but I am way more excisted for 2026 for the new coaster. I have already ridden Kingda Ka 3 times in 2012 and in 2019 and at least I got a chance to cross it off my bucket list
Several records. Not world records I heard. American records.
It is disappointing for sure. CP is my home park and Dragster’s closure was even worse. There were no rumors, not even a hint of anything like this happening. The accident happened and then it was gone. I hadn’t had a chance to put in any kind of “last ride” like many people did in this case. So while I know the frustration people have here, it will be fine and there is no need to attack the park for the decision. I mean we got two rides out of it. Siren’s curse and TT2 (which by all accounts is a really good ride - it just needs to run 😂).
What about Green Lantern?
They could be removing that along with Ka for future expansion. I do not know much about Lantern besides the fact I did not like it as a stand up coaster and was such an eye sore. I wish they could have re-themed it and gave it sit-down trains since they already have a floorless coaster, or convert it to a floorless coaster and send it to another park but oh well it is what it is.
I understand kingda ka was a maintenance nightmare and was too expensive to run. I understand why they are getting rid of it. But I would’ve felt better with an announcement. I know I’m an enthusiast, and I got emotional knowing it was my last rides but the way they didn’t announce it was just disrespectful. I will still be attending next year regardless, but they could’ve handled it better with just a little post. Like no one wants to hear the news, but it’s better and more respectable if they would say something, so people could get their final rides
I heard there were several reason why it closed, why it wasn't extended, and why they didn't announce it. cost was main reason and the prices kept going up. they didn't want to pay for parts to just extend. the ride has it's own maintenance crew. they didn't want to have to fix it - if they gave a date and it wasn't reliable. people would be upset if they traveled to ride it and it was close - very bad pr. also, there was an issue with the drop tower and nj claimed that the ride, ka, couldn't go past a certain date unless they fix the other ride - as it uses the same structure. nj has a lot of laws on coasters.
The announcement said the replacement would be a multi record-breaking launch coaster. I don’t know if you can interpret that as a multi-launch coaster. It could be, but it sounds more like it would be a regular launch coaster that breaks multiple records.
I think the park without the merging would've taken this down anyway eventually
I agree
The spirit of Kingda Ka will never leave the park though
The replacement better be awesome and worth it.
Whatever ride is added there. Make sure we judge the ride on its own merit and not comparing it to the ride that was there before hand
I know losing Kingda Ka sucks but it makes complete sense! Why have a ride that costs that much to operate when it doesn’t even pull long lines? I think I read something that Ka only had about 12 million riders in 19 years, which is kinda terrible. They now have the opportunity to put a ride that will probably be an upgrade while also being reliable and cheap to maintain.
I think it's the idea of a proper send off. Also, most of the ridership is due to maintenance, and it did have good lines. And it's also the ride that attracts people there in the first place I never rode it though in my 18 years, I was too scared to
I was around for the Paramount buy out. I was around for Hypersonic and Geauga Lake and Son of Beast and everyone panicking... and ya know what? All these new thoosies who have nostalgia for Son of Beat and Hypersonic and Thunder Road and new intamin rides such... obviously never went to a Paramount Park... I mean those parks were operated HORRIBLY. I mean they were worse than anything back then and it showed in attendance. Back in the 2000s Volcano the Blast Coaster was a consistent walk on. It was BAD. I'd take KD as a park now than to take Paramount with Volcano back then any day of the week.
I cannot speak for myself on Volcano's line during the Paramount era. My mother who was a huge Volcano fan did claim Volcano always had a line during the paramount days. But I whole heartedly agree that Kings Dominion is in a far better situation than during the Paramount era. It took some growing pains but the park is in its best state ever.

Loch Ness is Busch Gardens The Old Country... When that coaster goes, it's over for the entire theme!
I agree! I think ppl just want something to complain about. They are on a roll with jungle X and I cannot wait to see what’s to come.
Good to see you guys out and about. What a cool ride. I guess I'll have to go sometime.
I did a mountain coaster in upstate New York in 2015. It was one of the first coasters I ever rode (I have it as 15, but may have ridden Great Bear in 2009 vs a few months later, but I believe that was the only a thought and decided against it)
Definitely feels like a city park turning into more of a theme park. Sure only 5-6 rides aimed at young families right now, but the Dino area slaps-probably worth admission alone once the boutique opens
@@history_leisure I agree. Plus expansion with a new ride and other features. Who know there’s definitely growth. Also all the animal exhibits are with charge.
Holiday World is incredible as a park. Their wooden coasters are just really well taken care of and all 3 are some of the best. Also word to Lamar Jackson being overtaken by Jayden Daniels... The future is now old man!
btw the A in Alpen is pronounced like an e it sounds like "Elpin Fury" or "elpen fury" when said
