COLAMY has been pretty consistent when it comes to budget chairs. All 3 of the chairs I've tested from them have punched way above their weight class in terms of build quality and comfort. Today we'll be looking at the 5188 which is their attempt at an All-Mesh office chair under $300.

    great video, hope more reviews come out on this as im still looking at options, but, i might look at this over the normal evo, with the extra padding etc it might be better, but i would like a office chair for the back support and comfort, that has a headrest etc, but its super hard to find one that is good price max $1500nzd that i would spend on a chair (i think that is $880usd), and has a high weight limit, and is easy to get to New Zealand, as some amazon dont ship here, for weight limit i'm just under 170kg (374.79 pounds), so most chairs don't work for me, as they are around 135kg to 150kg limit, so looking at something that can do 180kg (400 pounds) and so far Secretlab Titan Evo XL ticks most of the boxes for me, i still dont know about the comfort side of things as had seen a lot of mixed reviews from the seat to the Lumbar support not being as good, but for me i don't know if i have any other choose, its very hard to find reviews of good chairs from people who weigh the same as me, or talk about the weight limit, i know the easy answer would be to lose weight but its not always the easy answer, and when buying a high price chair like a herman miller that can be from $2500 to $3500 you would expect them to have more higher weight limit but again its 135kg, so i'm kind of out of options, unless anyone has any good options i can look at, i might have to get the Secretlab Titan Evo XL NanoGen

    does the Amia come prebuilt like the Haworth Soji?

    • @sleeksetups
      @sleeksetups 5 днів тому

      If you buy new from Steelcase, it should come fully built (or at least it used to). Steelcase says on their site that it require a little bit of assembly but when I got my Amia new it was fully built. If you buy refurbished, it'll require assembly but either way the assembly is very quick since the seat, backrest, armrests, and mechanism are already assembled. You just need to drop the cylinder into the base and attach it to the rest of the chair.

Add extra $50 for marketing, modified armrests, better piston etc. = $250 difference Compare it rather to the exotic / branded versions, not to the cheapest possible Evo 2022 model :D It's not that much difference then.

    • @sleeksetups
      @sleeksetups 7 днів тому

      @@rdtsc7717 idk what you're trying to say. This is a review based on what I think is worth it or not after testing over 100 different chairs. What is "worth it" is completely subjective and is what I'm trying to assess here based on the real-world benefits they provide compared to what you're getting in the original. And just to be clear. Just because Secretlab CHARGES $80 for the Plush Armrests does not mean they are WORTH $80. That's the whole point. If you're gonna buy the chair, then buy the chair. I'm not here to change the mind of someone already set on buying the chair. This video isn't for you if you already know what you want... It's for people who genuinely don't know if it's worth an extra $250 over the original and in my opinion, it's not. Also, comparing it to the other Exotic options makes no sense in the context of a review like this because most people who are debating buying this version are not choosing between this and another exotic option. They just want a Secretlab chair and want to see if the NEWEST premium option is worth it over the most POPULAR version.

      First of all just to preface, I'm not a doctor, so don't take any recommendations as medical advice :). But second of all, if you're looking for something to help with back support, then this chair definitely isn't it due to the basically flat backrest. I do suffer from lower back pain, which is what go me into ergonomic office chairs in the first place. I'd much prefer something like the Steelcase Leap over any gaming chair.

(465 version, this is how it was called) I have one used Think V1 nearby for like €75 euros, the Ticova is around €135 and I'm on the fence since I don't know which one to buy. The main point is that the european market is so bad and finding good value used chairs is much harder than in the States.

      @@sob515 The NanoFoam layer is not on the backrest. Before making this review I specifically asked Secretlab's support this question to confirm this. I have no idea if there is nanofoam or nanowhatever inside, it feels much softer on my back so it's not the same in both chairs and it's not "a bit softer". Also their website says: Specialized Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and pressure mapping software allow us to optimize the thickness ratio and position of our cold-cure foam and microfoam across the seat base and backrest, down to the millimeter. It would be best to take it apart and check :D

    On another person's video on the chair, I posted comments that are similar to yours. I posted that the new foam should be the replacement for their cold-cure foam. At least, the foam and leatherette should've been an option, not separate, overpriced model of the Titan. As an owner of a very old and deteriorating Titan for 6.5 years, I actually got used to the seat. I would've bought the NanoGen Edition, if it came with the above options - I would've preferred it with the SoftWeave upholstery, and with the standard armrests - and a reasonable price. Instead, I ordered a remanufactured Leap v2 from Crandall Office Furniture. Secretlab gives me the impression that they don't have to work hard for business. They offered no Black Friday/Cyber Monday discount on the NanoGen Edition, and only a $30 discount on the regular Titan Evo. It's bad enough that their warranty and return policy are pretty bad. If Secretlab doesn't want my money, then fine. But if they do, they'll have to work much harder than this for it.

    Congrats on appearing to have the first ever NanoGen review? I am very disappointed it wasn't worth the 800$ for you. I will consider canceling my order if they allow I am not sure if I am too stoked about it anymore...darn. Thank you for maybe saving me 300$ or so.

      Thanks - I mean don't get me wrong its not a bad chair by any means. It's objectively better than the regular Titan Evo in pretty much every way and probably the best racing style gaming chair. $250 is just a lot to ask when the design is mostly the same. But if you do get it, you probably won't hate it.

    SecretLab is a joke. For starters any company that forces you to post positively about them on social media in order to get your full warranty is sketchy af at best. Secondly Secretlab uses the same manufacturers as all the other racing chair companies. They aren’t special. Toss in how their customer service is a dumpster fire, and you got a company not worth supporting. They’re taking advantage of you.

    • @sleeksetups

      Agree on the warranty point. I specifically say that I dislike this practice in my original Titan Evo Review. However, your second point about Secretlab using the same manufacturers as all the other racing chair companies is factually incorrect. Secretlab is actually one of the only brands that does all of their engineering and manufacturing in house, so no one else has their exact components. More info on that here: blog.secretlab.co/stories/ask-me-anything/ That said, I don't think they're particularly that special either. A racing chair is a racing chair. Secretlab chairs are definitely better built than any other racing chair I've used (and I've used a ton of them) but I've been pretty vocal about preferring a high end ergonomic chair any day.

      @@sleeksetups Ok so they have their own in house manufacturing, that makes it worse. Why is quality so bad outside of review copies? Why when my chair arrived faulty did they send the wrong parts to fix it multiple times? SecretLab is not a good company.

    • @sleeksetups
      @sleeksetups 4 дні тому

      @@crazyeyecarl Look, I agree that it's not the best company and could be better with their customer support and warranty. I've called them out on that all the time (even in this video.) But that doesn't necessarily mean that quality for ALL units across the board is bad because you, one individual, received a bad unit. And for the record, this NanoGen edition was not a review unit, I purchased it with my own money for the sake of the review. At no point was I defending Secretlab's customer support. I was simply calling out your factually incorrect statement about their manufacturing.

    After seeing this and other review videos, i ordered the chair. It arrived 7 days ago and man it absolutely killed my lower back after 6 days. I tried adjusting the lumbar support, yet it just hurts more and more. Its way too agressive and just stings the back. Also the headrest gave a bit of neckpain aswell. I'm 5'8 also, so not on the taller end. No idea how this gets so many good reviews, i hate it and will return it the following days. My chair before this, is normal one my dad found outside and it never gave as much trouble as this one.

      @@wearezscaredbeasts4207 what kind of chair are you coming from. If you’ve never sat in an ergonomic chair before, its very common for there to be an adjustment period for your body if youre not used to it. This is one of the most common things about ergonomic chairs because your body isn’t used to sitting “correctly”. If you are used to sitting with poor posture for your whole life and then a chair all of a sudden forces you to sit with proper posture, its very common to experience some pain the short term until your body is used to it. I had the same experience when i shifted to ergonomic office chairs from racing style gaming chairs
