I have been an N-scale model railroader off and on since the early 70's. My channel will focus on my current layout, the Brownsville Terminal Railroad, which is a 5'x8' switching layout built from T-trak modules, my future layout plans, and my involvement with the N-Scale of Bloomington Normal (NSBN), a modular model railroad club.

I made this layout into a Train Sim called Auran Trainz 2022, and I run the same trains he does, on my PC!
Watching this for inspiration. still the gold standard for ops in ttrak.
Just checkin in, been away for awhile! Quite interested in your modules as that is my new plan of attack. Great vid Sorry you have to take a step back but totally understandable. Look forward to you returning in the future! Linda ~ Loweville Junction
7 minutes in and this is already one of the most informative Kato track based videos I’ve seen. Awesome video!
THANK YOU FOR VIDEO WISH BEST WITH YOUR CARD STSTEM IT GOOD LISTING OTHER DO THIS TYPE OPERATION FROM AUSTRALIA
damn it is hyper complicated for newbies
Kevin, I really have enjoyed your videos. I used to be Ntrak like you and found you after looking at your T-Trak wiring video. Hey I really like your platforms to make T-trak higher for your home. Great idea. Please make some more videos. I enjoy your content.
@kevinbrown104, I just wanted to let you know how much I miss seeing your videos. It seems like so much longer than 6 months since we last got an update.
Great intro to your new system, this looks like interesting operations are in your future!
Hi Kevin! Ii have a bunch of Kato 24-818feeder joiners .I d like to keep the white plugs on them and not cut them off- is there a Kato junction box I can plug say 6-10 of these feeders into and run one wire to my Kato transformer and plug it in and run all-of the feeders off of one? Is there such a thing ? Please advise , Thank you, George USA
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, Kato doesn't have anything bigger than the blue triple feed extension. I just make a " daisy chain" of those for my bus line. While not perfect, I find it works very well. I hope that answers your question - Kevin.
Do you have a source for the green car tray shown 18:35-18:55?
Nice little video, looking forward to some work you have done on your layout,as an old timer really got of helpful tips and ideas to incorporate into my small shelf layout made with ttrak modules really enjoy seeing your progress, keep up the great work
Those GP30s are sweet I owned 2 of them and sold them like an idiot! I wish I had another Proto GMO gp30
Does it FORCE you to use Blue White, White Blue? Otherwise, why wouldn't you just run it "properly?" That way you can cross over to different lines to pass or whatnot.
Adherence to the T-trak wiring standards is only necessary if you plan on taking your modules to shows and/or meets and connect with other modules. If you plan on keeping your modules solely for a home layout, then you obviously can do whatever you want. In my experience, the "blue/white, white/blue" wiring is easily overcome by reversing the polarity of the track power feed for one of the main lines at the power source. This gives you the best of both worlds - compatibility with other people's modules and easy crossovers between the mainlines. Hope that answers your question - Kevin.
The explanation of the unitrak wiring was very helpful. Thank you!
Curious about the two modules you had to replace crossover, are they both 2 foot, keep up the great work
Yes, the two main modules for Thomasboro are both two-footers. If I remember correctly, The Kato double crossover just fits on a single module. I am a big fan of "double modules." They are long enough to have more interesting track work, and they are easy to store and transport. Hope that answers your question and thank you for your comment - Kevin.
Thanks so much, followed you since beginning and with limited space your tips and showing your modules help so much, my self I use 2 2ft by 14 inch deep and use 6 inch curves to make a loop with sidings and able to expand and fits great on a shelf ,thanks again and keep up the great work , I do have a photo on kato fans site
Sadly, I had already committed to another show that same weekend. I wish I could have seen the FreeMo stuff in person, but appreciate the video! Looks like I missed a great show!
Great video, Kevin! This show was not affiliated with the March Springfield Model Railroad Club show, but had a great crowd for a late planned event.
That FREEMO layout was great and still so much to happen on it.
I'm using kato uni track for my ho scale layout and I'm wanting to put in a roundhouse and turntable. What would be the best way to go about this with the ho scale uni track?
Unfortunately, I have never used the HO unitrack nor tried to put in a roundhouse/turntable. I have found the Kato short track packs quite useful for odd lengths, but I don't know if that would be enough for such exacting needs. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
I'm going to be trying my first attempt at constructing a T-Trak module as an attempt to teach myself how to do scenery. Your wiring tutorial really helps!
Yes my husband uses the same
Kevin, I have been watching for one of your videos for a while and have missed seeing them regularly. Then when I saw this one and heard your announcement, I was saddened with the realization that I will have to continue missing them... You have been an inspiration to me as I attempt to build my own T-Trak layout.
Thank you for your kind comments.
Great video. Totally understand the lack of time and the issues it causes. Look forward to seeing your future videos when they come out.
Thanks for your comments.
Thought it seemed like awhile since your last video. I can fully understand the parent care using time issue. Sorry you had to choose.
Thank you for your comments. I have been contemplating this difficult choice for a while now. Luckily, I can still enjoy the hobby through setting up and playing at shows. I really do enjoy mixing with the public, and seeing the wide-eyed joy on kid's faces.
Hi Kevin! It’s always a good day to see a video from you on UA-cam! Especially after having had to watch the Bears lose their fourth game in a row, to a team that’s just as bad as they are. Oh dear, what a mess. Here’s some thoughts I had while watching your video: 1. KATO CROSSOVER - For some odd reason, in my own T-Trak layout design, I refused to use those type of switches, instead opting for the the 20-230 single track crossover to switch trains from one main to the other. After watching your video, I’m glad I went that route! I actually hate the concrete ties used on that crossover, as my layout is set in the mid 70’s before concrete ties became a thing, but I like it’s simplicity. 2. Love that KATO CNW “400” passenger train, as well as the CB&Q “Silver Streak” Zephyr, which is the train that got me into KATO and T-Trak. As a Burlington Northern model railroader, I learned something very interesting this past week: Amtrak, in the early 70’s, used CNW’s “400” bi-level cars for a train that traveled on the Burlington tracks called the “Illinois Zephyr.” When the train first started out, they left the coaches and engines in CNW paint! E and F units were the norm for power, and sometimes both an E-9 and F-7 were used together. Eventually Amtrak bought the coaches from the CNW, and they were repainted in Amtrak’s colors. Now I have an excuse to buy my own “400” set! 3. I really enjoy seeing the underside of your modules, and the wiring techniques that you used. 4. Sad to see so few people at the Matoon show, but then that’s always been the problem with Mattoon: it’s just to far away from anything! I’ve been there a few times in my life, and it seems like it takes an eternity to get there. It's far more remote than one realizes, and there's no interstates nearby to make it an easy drive. 5. The time issue has been my biggest problem when it comes to model railroading, as I have a TON of hobbies and interests, and most of them are less costly and less expensive than model railroading! Yet I’ve been a life long model railroader, and will stay with it in one form or another until my time to leave this planet comes. I had to give up my military modeling, as I could not do that and model trains at the same time. For gaming, I just like to play plain old board games, but this is the golden age of boardgames, and there is a ton of great games out worth playing. They are relatively “cheap” to get into, and provide a lot of fun for all involved. 6. Family has also been a BIG issue in my own life, and that does take up a lot of time as well, but it’s important to make that a priority. I will certainly miss your monthly updates! Take care of your priorities first, as always, and we will be anxiously awaiting your return.
Thank you so much for your comments. In general, I have had very little trouble with the Kato double crossovers. This one just got a bit cranky. I too have one of the single crossovers, which has worked well also. I found that painting the concrete ties flat black with a small brush really improved the look. I agree that model railroading is by far the most expensive and time demanding hobby I love. Heck, it makes even Games Workshop stuff look cheap! I am proud of what I have accomplished on my layout. I look forward to having the time to dig into it again.
@@kevinbrown104 - You had to mention Games Workshop, didn't you? LoL! Love their stuff, but I don't have the money for those guys! But what I really like is the "Flames of War" stuff. Not any cheaper, but I've always been a WWII nerd. Your videos have been VERY inspirational to me, especially in regards to using T-TRAK as a home layout. Can't thank you enough for posting these updates to UA-cam.
I understand the time thin> I have not posted a video on my channel in some time. I have had a little time to work on a few projects , but not the time to video edit etc. Good luck in your endeavors until you can retire and play more !!~!
What is this word you gentleman speak of ? retire 🤔
@@randysrockandrollrailroad8207 Retirement seems to be something that's always a few years away. I have hopes, though.
Good video all the way around .... Thanks for Adding the bit about the Mattoon, IL, train show. I was born in Mattoon dang near 74 years ago. Lived there for two years until my dad got transferred to Saginaw, MI, with the Gulf Oil Corp. Was back there 4 years ago on our way from West Virginia to Minne-snow-ta. I HAD to get back there just because. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your comments. Mattoon struck me as a nice town. Sadly, many of the small, rural communities are not fairing too well these days.
No clue what you are talking about
Great. Video love kato!
Great video, I really enjoy your video’s on your layout ,watched them from the beginning and inspired me to use your method for my shelf layout and being 70 didn’t know if I could have one in limited space ,thank you, love using modules and kato track is great, still figuring out the scenic end of it ,maybe in future video you could do a walk around of your layout and tell a little of sceanery application ,thanks again and looking forward to your next video
great to see you back Kevin.
Me, too, Kevin. I absolutely love Kato Unitrack. ...Roy
It was a good show, just wish there was more selection of n scale this year. I agree I was very interested in the group that has using the Unitrack, hopefully they’ll be at more shows.
Thanks Kevin, good to see you.
Kevin, Thanks for sharing with us....John
Thank you for a really helpful video.
You're right, bigger isn't always better. But if you can, you should. I'm about to embark on building my biggest layout and I doubt that I'll finish without several hiccups on the way.
Nice update on the card system, I am behind on mine now with my new section. Looks like it was a good show in Urbana. Looking forward to the Galesburg show.
Howdy Kevin! SAY hi!
Nice Hat!
Another great video. I found your channel a few months ago and have watched all of your videos as I begin my Ttrak journey. I had hoped to get to the Urbana show to view your layout and visit my wife's family who live in the area, but we had a snowstorm up here in eastern Iowa. I am focusing on the mid-60s and looking to run CB&Q, RI and CNW. If I can find the equipment, I may also add the C&EI since it used to run through my wife's hometown. Keep up the magnificent work and hope I get the opportunity to see your group's work in person sometime. I may have to stop by Farmer's City sometime :)
When you do the flocking, is there anything you do with excess flock that doesn't stick down? Brush it up or vacuum?
Cool update Kevin. You sure have been busy.
Nice update, wish I could of made the Springfield show, looks like it was pretty big. Like the idea of having a control panel for running DC trains, also probably nice to have the staging yard wired up. The Farmer City layout looks great and fun! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing Kevin. Looks like they had plenty of room at that Springfield show for your club and other ntrak clubs to get a nice sized layout next year.
yay! a new kevin video!
Thanks for sharing your train show videos and the update on your layout as well as the acquisitions of those box cars. What era do you model the most and what road names are you utilizing?
I am shooting for the early 60's. I am trying to focus on freight cars from the Midwest from that era, with special attention for the GM&O, CB&Q, C&NW and RI (the "co-owners" of my fictional railroad).
❤❤❤
Another great video. 1000 subscribers is wonderful news. Thank you for sharing.
