The Park you drove by on the right at the beginning used to be Evergreen Country Club Golf Course, the first course I ever played in 1980 or 81. And then at about the 7 min mark, the best ice cream in Chicago at Rainbow Cone. Always headed there for a nice Rainbow Cone on a hot summer day.

Sometimes I live in Bridgeport, Bronzeville, Chicago and Downtown Chicago Because I have walk there through the streets by yourself.

I love to visits in Chicago, Evergreen Park, Hyde Park and Chatham

Last remark. Mom used to say that Homewood was the "Mount Prospect, or Arlington Heights of the South Suburbs"..Not quite a Winnetka, or Glenview, but certainly a very nice and decent place to live. I wish somebody would save it...God Bless!

Grandpa said that it' heyday was in the 1940s-1950s.... and the decline started when Pullman Closed its doors. He told me that before his death in 1982. As you go under the viaduct at the train station, there was a 3pt. intersection and a restaurant there that sold the very best Italian Beef Sandwiches on EARTH. I remember Central School, the Presbyterian Church, Cort-Ryan Funeral home where grandma and Grandpa's services were held. I recall the park at the end of Cedar... the library, Ben Franklin Store..... I remember before Amtrak the banging and clanging the trains made all night long. I remember the Illinois Central commuter trains from 1926, then the silver and orange ones... then we moved to Prospect Heights, Arlington Hts, Fort worth & finally Bogota, Colombia. that was a lifetime ago......nice truthful vid. sad vid, but a truthful vid. I hear Marshal Fields is gone. Are the Howard Johnson's still across the tollroad? Wow.. you triggered a ton of memories! Thanks

OMFG........................... What has happened?!!!!! Homewood, Park Forest, Flossmoor, used to be the crown jewel of the South Suburbs! Marshal Fields had a store at Olympia Fields, civic groups like the Homewood Jr. Woman's and Homewood Woman's clubs were thriving! Teachers and staff from the University of Chicago, Hyde Park all lived in Homewood due to the train proximity. People worked at Pullman, downtown at the loop, the Illinois Central. They had country clubs, best restaurants, outstanding schools! My Grand Parents and mom lived at 1831 Cedar, Homewood from 1926 to 1974. I've not been there since 1974. Another drive past my old stomping grounds. You went by where the house I grew up in used to stand in BI, and where an old pit BBQ restaurant used to be, The Homestead. The pitmaster, A nice African American drove an Eldorado with "RIBMAN" personalized license plates!
