Hyperplase of the Aurora Borealis at Yosemite National Park on 10-10-24. Made a mad dash to the park after work and came back home at 4am in the morning... My trusty D800E broke down finally and my D500 won't focus correctly. Eventually managed to work around these issues and here's the result.

I got a first gen Dodge Stealth r/t for $1900 recently. It's got a few thing i should address but driving it is a dream. It's my first car and my first manual car and I love it.
That price looks like a steal.. congratulations.
@@reetomh well it had broken hatch glass and hail damage. luckily i got that fixed with no leakage. nowhere near as clean as your amazing vr4, but the mileage is nice and it drives great
What’s the tool you are using to read the error codes?
@@mateuszmarzecki71 it’s available on 3sx website. Just search for scanner and two results will show up. The second one is the one. SKU is 3SX001259. You can also buy it directly from the guy who made those scanners. He is on the 3Si forum.
Hello friend, I have a 3000gt vr4 92 just like yours. I would like you to help me with the scanner. Show us the model so I can buy one and check any errors it may have. Thanks. I am from Brazil. I've had the car for 22 years.

i can't believe you have a first gen, that doesn't have cracked dash vents. A rare find! Nice work on changing the thermostat
Thanks. It was owned by an elderly Gentlemen and he was the first owner. So I had to get it. I had to sell my 2020 STI to get this one :)

Hey bro not sure what paid, but what do you think of 11k for a 91 vr4, red, 164k miles, all stock, supposedly no mechanical issues, no rust, seems to be in good aesthetic condition definitely not mint like yours though. Sound cheap, fair, or overpriced?
Hey, I think you are talking about the one in the Bay Area? I think I saw that post, exactly what you described. I think it's a good deal as long as the seller can provide paperwork for the maintenance. Mileage matters upto certain extent and the components wear out with time.. Make sure you check all the paper work, timing belt changed, water pump etc.. let the car idle for 30 mins or so and see if there's any overheating, after 15 mins or idling do rev it up to 5k rpm once and check what comes out of the tail pipe.. definitely look for oil leaks.. if the seller has already done the smog test, I would say you do one more in front of you just to make sure. If these criteria are met, I wouldn't mind that price.. Hope this helps. Hit me up if you need anything else, I am no expert but my 95 base came back from a full rebuild and so I have some idea about the 3k problems :) Good luck.
@@reetomh yes correct it’s in the bay or Nor cal. Thanks for the advice. I was interested but I kind of didn’t pull the trigger the miles are a bit high. But if they drop the price I’ll consider it.
@@r8der674 That car is 20 mins from my home :) there are few others but they are all SL... hard to come by a good unmolested VR4..
@@reetomh nice it’s about 3 hours for me I’m in the Monterey county area. I thought it was closer but that’s a drive. Yeah it’s an awesome car I think I’d pay a little more but for lower mileage. I’m more of an Eclipse guy. I bought a gst spyder 97 with super low miles in the bay like 6 months ago
@@reetomh the 3000gt is a nice car overall but I want the VR4 🙂
What do you think 1991 VR4 with 164,000 miles, all stock, red, 1 owner, looks good in pics, supposedly no issues or rust. They want 11k worth it? Cheap, fair, or overpriced?

This thing is amazing!
Absolutely amazing, but it repeats after approx 15mins... so 15mins is all you need to see all the variations...
Nice setup. Im looking to do the same to my 4Runner. What roof rack do you have ?
This is the prinsu roof rack. I am quite satisfied and have been able to mount everything on it... I will do a walk around video soon to show the remaining progress.. it looks super cool with the GMRS antennas...
How is the car so far? Driving wise
Hey, I love driving it. Although I just use it on weekends to get me a starbucks coffee. I enjoy driving it and like keep it relaxed... even as a stock, you feel the power and enjoy the overall experience of driving it... something different for a minimalistic Tesla interior...I also didn't drive too much last year since I wanted to address few small problems before I go on longer drives.. But I drive my 95 in the exactly opposite way, I push it a lot and love to hear the loud exhaust in it. It does turn heads when I start it up.. Now that everything is sorted, this summer should be a blast. May beI will do a 1 year ownership review :)
Did you get the smog issue cleared up?
Going for smog today, have appointment at 2pm.. finally no smoke and all looks good, drove about 400 miles..Fingers crossed, will post an update soon.
Did the front rims clear without the 10mm offset? Did you also lower the car?
Yes, no problems at all. Many ppl prefer these EVO rims over aftermarket.
And I didn’t lower it, keeping it stock for the ECS stuff.
I also have a set of ESRs that will go on my 95, that might need spacers as it’s sitting on coilovers with 2.5 inch drop. It has the stock wheels now with 10mm spacers all around…
@reetomh awesome, i have a chance to buy the evo rims for my 1g 3000gt and was trying to figure if it will clear the brake. Your setup looks great even without lowering!
@@alwin5979 Thanks, the black color makes a big difference and makes the wheel well gap disappear. I did order the Megan lowering springs but decided not to install. Just for reference, I bought the wheels for 550, like new..
do you have a link for the antenna
Here's the link. And it comes with a set of instructions that are spot on. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JRJG45U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also how would you remove the antenna if it stuck inside. I removed the rubber around the tip of the antenna, turned on the radio and I cant get the antenna out. The motor also works fine
@@bieryguevara7076 Its probably jammed from inside. You have to remove the antenna motor assembly from inside. It's quite easy to remove and put back... it's there in my video... check it out and let me know if you still need help.
Will they fit on the westcott design rack
hey, I think they will fit. If you look at the top of the molle panels, there' are lot of holes and some of those should align with the westcott rack. Thanks.
Как купить панель с него?
I just paid $900 for a complete stock 92vr4 needs new paint
Are you sure it's 900 and not 900? I haven't heard anyone buy a VR4 that needs JUST PAINT for 900. How many miles on it and does everything else work prefectly? If yes, then you are the luckiest man alive!
I had similar problem, I replaced one of my catalytic converters; solved the problem.
Hello, how did you zero down to the catalytic converter? In my case the piston rings were damaged, all that got fixed, rebuilt the motor. Now it appears oil is getting into the PCV, as the valve cover is defective and not sealing properly with the new gasket. Hopefully, will get the car back this month... Life is extremely slow in the garage. 1.5 years and counting....
I bought a used 60,000 engine from Japan and had it installed AND the car still smoked, it had original catalytic converters. It was the only thing that could be causing the smoke. A new catalytic converter did the trick like magic $225.00.
So in the end I shouldn't have needed to replace my original engine. They convinced me that it would be cheaper to buy the used engine with low miles than to rebuild the valve job, tappets etc. It was only $1300 for the 60,000 engine from Japan, this engine was good and is doing great after I replaced the catalytic converter.
@@lindaboles4988 Got it. thanks.
@@reetomh I've owned my 1991 since 1993 .... that's 30 years of maintenance experience. .
Exactly where did you place your floor jack against the frame? I'm assuming you removed the Oval panel at the front center to lift it and then placed your jack stands under it?
Yes, I remove that oval plastic cover and Jack it up at that point. It’s pretty stable. I use additional Jack stands and support when I go under…
I replaced the hood Heat Shield on my '91 VR4 and it wasn't a difficult job at all. Took the old one off no issues. Only about 14 clips or so holding that thing up there (can't remember the exact number). I went ahead and bought new clips at the same time as well. Nice car you have :)
I made a small mistake while replacing the heat shield. I put the new one top of the old one.. it it has become too thick and unable to put to intercooler heat shield on. The clips are unable to hold all three… one of these days I will remove the old one and put back the intercooler heat shield.
Yeah, you definitely need to remove the old one. It’s easy, you’ll be fine 😊
@@ames6881 Yep.. will do it someday..
What type of wipes did you use?
Hey, nothing special, just regular ani-bacterial wipes from walmart.
If i was very rich, i would buy that and rebuild it like new. How much would that cost ?
more than 10k
@@pupper9978 nah, must be alot more than that. i guess till its like new it would cost like $43210 u.s.
Beauty. I just bought a 1991 300zx tt with 50k miles, literally looks straight off the lot. Took me months to find one completely stock in that condition. Always garage kept and barely driven past 20yrs, basically once a month around the block. Only issues are with the radio/cd player and by age needs timing belt and some other maintenance items, which is not a cheap service, around 3k alone. Passed pre inspection with flying colors and picked up out of state. Originally listed for 34.5k but was able to get it down to 24k. I am going to do the 120k mile service and replace a lot of rubber hoses, gaskets and all fluids to get as dialed in a possible. Probably 4-5k total. I am only going to do mods that can be switched back to stock like wheels, led lights, touch screen radio etc in case I sell down the road. This was my favorite car in high school so may just keep forever
I think I’d go a little more glossy but you did the job in a nice safe manner. I’m thinking about a exterior repaint and then painting the engine bay black. Do you know if the mat that attaches to the hood can be purchased anywhere? Mine could use a replacement. Like you demonstrate taking your time is the way to go. Anything else planned? Nice job! Rob
Anyone who parks a pos vw in the garage don't deserve a Mitsubishi...

Been a couple months now, any updates on this car? Able to get the burning oil fixed?
Hello, life is extremely slow at the Garage, I am more desperate than anyone else for an update. Every week on Saturday I visit them and ask for an update and they tell me next week. This drama is going on for last 3 months. Couple of weeks back when I went, I told them very clearly how frustrated I am and if I don't get my car this month, I will take action. Now they are on it. So it appears oil leaked into the PCV as they suspect the valve cover to be defective, so it's not sealing properly against the gasket. I got them a replacement valve cover 2 weeks ago. They are putting it back together. They wanted me to pick up the car yesterday, and I told them to smog it first before calling me to pick it up. I am. hoping to hear back from them this Saturday. I will summarize everything in the next video.
@@reetomh awesome to see, Im just as curious as you are. Hope it all works out!
Mine is same as your 1992 3000GT VR4. And it had the same noise so I did change those 24 tappets. Take a look at Discovery channel the show is called “wheel dealer “ ( it was a yellow 3000GT episode ) where they replace those and explain why it commonly happens in our 3000GT cars. Now they have in the market better replacements for those 24 tappets with larger holes ( original it was with 1mm size hole and now they build with 3mm holes ) So with those bigger holes oil pass true better so that noise is gone.
Sell the SL.Where is the 92red Vr4 u just bought 5m ago? Save some money for that my friend..
That thought did come to my mind after I paid the shop and it was still smoking after the rebuild.. But it's too late now.. If I sell it, I get probably 1k and I paid the shop close to 8k for the rebuild... so my best bet is to hold the shop accountable for the job they did. They seem to have zeroed down the problem to oil getting into the PCV as there's a defect in the valve cover, so it's not sitting right and sealing... The VR4 is fine. I am catching up on maintenance on that, may be one thing a month... just ordered OEM 60k service parts and hoping to do it during the winter break. Other than that it's making happy trips to the Starbucks :)
Nice!👍Clean all oem rare.Welcome to the club of 3Si.
Thanks man, earlier this year it became an obsession of mine. Every night before going to bed I would search for a VR4 in this condition all over US.. I realized soon that I am wasting too much time and might as well grab the first decent one I can find. And finally found one :)
There’s an easy passage in the driver wheel well near the A pillar, behind the splash guard. It puts the cable right where you want to mount it.
Do you like your 95 or 92 better?
Hey, apologies for the late reply. I have more hours on the 95 than the 92 and the 95 has some emotional bond with me, my friend and his dad (who passed away few years ago). we have a ton of memories with this car and so I am fixing it up. Regarding the 92, I just get happy looking at it. At times I will just sit in the car in the garage and look at all the things inside and feel blessed to have it. In terms of driving, both are quite powerful and you don't feel short of power, both are head turners... let me tell you this, there was one time when a group of bikers on their liter bikes slowed down to give me a thumbs up.. the community loves the way it looks, it's tinted black, wheels are black and that fresh green paint looks awesome... It doesn't have many switches and options like the 92 but very very very reliable. That's the biggest point. 92 can be reliable too if maintained well.
Only issue is parts are hard to find.
there are manufacturers in the u.s. that build parts for the Mitsubishi 3000GT, transmission and engine parts etc. .
The 3S community is pretty strong and we usually find the parts. Agree that it's hard to find parts, but ppl figure it out someway. Revenge Performance builds the transmission, there are few guys who build Carbon fibre parts, someone does brake calliper reconditioning etc... so with help from the community it works out well.
