cap the SGI does nothing but want to motivate you to achieve whatever you want and you arent pressured to do anything you don't want to do.
I was in SGI for 4 years in Korea and Türkiye. But I’ve never seen anything like he mentioned. If we see what Catholic Church have done or other religions doing is even more harmful I guess. I’m not a member anymore but people was really nice in SGI I can tell.
I was invited to an SGi event in 2019 when I was in college. I’ve practiced Tibetan Buddhism my whole life. And during my first time at the SGI meeting . It felt strange. Everyone was so happy and welcoming to the extent that it was uncomfortable. The head person came to me and started trying to sell a scroll to me. I explain that I already have a deity and buddhas I pray to and I do not need it. But the guy was so aggressive. After that day I never went back. It didn’t feel like a Buddhist community.
I'm reading a book, about the ALPERTON ANGEL CULT, or something like that.
Finally!!!!! I was drugged by this cult and to be honest at the time it was one of the only things I liked. Before you freak out I drank tea with an instructor and I immediately knew I had been drugged because he said “do you see it? That’s chi energy” and I was like Goddamnit I just got roofied. Yes I see the “chi energy”. I took class and watched trails and felt euphoric. It wore off pretty fast. They tried a bunch of shenangins , they tried hooking me up with another musician, put vibrating brains on my feet. I wouldn’t wear the uniform and it was driving them bananas. I saw a documentary on channel 5 about the Sedona scandal and I was like , not the least bit surprised. It was actually HARD not to go back since they were love bombing the fuck out of me but …. The last class they had everyone sit in a circle and mirror each other. I didn’t want to do it and I sat out. The instructor made the class share one by one how it made them feel that I would not participate (I gave less than zero fucks but was thinking, I paid for this I’m an adult literally nobody is going to shame me into doing something stupid. I’ve already been drugged and I’m just here to stretch out). That was it and then I saw the documentary and ✌️ BYE. I’ve been talking about this for years and nobody cares at all. Wild this was right off union square in NYC. Instruction Andrew is the one who gave me the tea but they cycled the instructors so no attachments were made. Cult cult cult !
Angela was another instructor who was twitching about my refusal to wear the uniform and she had a moment of clarity and said “I used to be like you”. She left the room looking very upset and came back, stared at me…apologized and walked out . A different teacher “Gina” (very manipulative, made me actually feel cared for )came in and taught class focused intensely on me which was … a lot but I figured screw it. I’m getting special attention and she’s correcting my stance and being super nice to me. I really think being neurodivergent made me more immune to cult indoctrination. I didn’t want hugs, I didn’t want to socialize and their claims of being “special” felt annoying. Like leave me alone I’m not here to level up to anything. Anyway holy moly this is a HUGE cult ! I hope people continue to spread the message .
@@TibbieSkyeX thank you for sharing this. I’m so glad you were able to get out! I wonder if they are still there, harming more people.
@ I checked - they rebranded and moved on. I know they were mind body yoga or something briefly - I got the lecture while I was there about hot body cool mind with the chart lol. I was like Oooookkkk awesome so when does class start. That was it. Gina was the teacher at the time. I could be wrong but I think I’m the only one who was calling shenanigans on this stuff the rest of the classmates were like - glazed eyes, smiling, robotic, clones. Bad attitude and tendency to isolate really helped me out in this one.
Describing this group as "anti hippie" is very misleading. They had very deep roots to the counter culture. In reality they were so counterculture they made hippies look like spoiled middle class brats... which they were.
Guinevere sure has had to do some mental gymnastics to portray Lyman as some kind of super villain. Is she really this desperate for cash?
Overall I hear that your experiencing there was horrible.. That’s says something about you and your host who is thirsty for drama cause it sells. not about the place itself. I read and listened of people who had wonderful magical experiencing there. They probably got something that you missed. Who is at fault??
@@leogyrauro2950 This sounds like you’re justifying child abuse and blaming people for being born and raised in exploitative environments.
Thank you to everyone for bringing this information to us. Much love, Lindi-Lu, 💜
I experienced a lot of gaslighting and brainwashing after practicing for 5 years, and felt like i reclaimed my autonomy and agency over my own mind and beliefs once I left. I found a good therapist to help me quit the practice and rebuild my own personal faith and belief systems. It took quite a while to move past the guilt and fear of not chanting and undo the brainwashing. Nam myho renge kyo!
Dr Stark talked about CC as a learned behavior and the abusers are narcissistic, and that also women can be perpetrators although less common. He thought that it will stop or become a rarity once women truly have full societal equal status to men. He didn't like the term CC because it really is domestic violence, but that already had its definition in law practice. His information is extremely important and I hope that it will be incorporated into laws everywhere. It's huge, happens everywhere with severe consequences and needs to change.
interviewer talks too much
Hey. Thank you for your feedback. I’ve been given this comment a lot since starting the podcast and I’ve worked on changing the amount I talk in interviews. This talk from 3 years ago I believe is very different from my newer content. I hope you’ll check it out. Thanks :)
I have been a practitioner of the SGI school of Nichiren Buddhism for over 34 years. I appreciate the perspective of James and want to learn from his experience with the SGI-USA, while sharing my own. For me, the practice of chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo and portions of the Lotus Sutra daily, studying Buddhist concepts in a contemporary way and sharing this form of Buddhism with others (not to build up the SGI, but to create a world of peace) has unequivocally resulted in being able to express that this is a practice that has and continues to work wonders for me. Still regardless of this, the very idea of being in a religious organization and informing others of the benefit this practice can be to their lives, still runs completely contrary to my basic instincts as an individualistic critical thinker. I just can't ignore the fact that the practice benefits my life and the times I have been most involved in activities in the organization have been some of the happiest of my life. I take pride in the fact that the Soka Gakkai was the only religious organization to stand up to the Japanese government during World War ll and oppose the war and were imprisoned for their stance and that the then Soka Gakkai leader died a war martyr in prison. I have challenged many obstacles with this practice including my entire immediate family overcoming the relentless family karma of addiction. Organizations are made of people and as we learn in this Buddhism, humans do what we call "human revolution" to become more fullfilled, more caring, decent and more contributive to their communities and global peace. It is no wonder that an organization reflective of people evolving, evolves , as well. The SGI-USA has evolved from a mostly Japanese organization to the most socially, racially and economically diverse Buddhist organization in the USA. Along that path, there have been many growing pains and there will be more to encounter, but I can say the organization is open to change and new ideas. I have had some bad experiences, in dealing with some past SGI leaders, but they don't represent the mainstream of the leadership today. Much of that has to do with Daisaku Ikeda, who came to the USA in 1990 and encouraged the membership, to show the rest of the world how to create peace in the most diverse country in the world and not rely on the examples of Japanese culture, which dominated the organization at the time. He asked the USA to create new maps to peace and expressed the difference between Western and Eastern cultures. He didn't just come to teach, he came to learn. Unlike James, I have never been told that I have weak faith or been made to feel guilty, I've actually been encouraged to replace the word faith for "expectation" or "courage to fulfill my dreams". Unlike James, a well informed leader has never encouraged unity based on agreeing with the group, but I have only been encouraged to unite to fight for world peace together, even if there was disagreement or dislike with another member. Unlike James, in all the meetings I have ever attended I have never heard "betrayers" names called out. I may have witnessed some small talk like this, but rarely. More often it is care for others that I hear expressed, some of it valuable, some not as much. I do believe the SGI-USA has more growth to do and most of my hang ups have to do with language. I don't like the words "leader", "division" , etc. These words are outdated, in my opinion and do sound cultish. I also don't like the honorific title , "Sensei or Ikeda Sensei" for Daisaku Ikeda, for me it belittles this awesome man, who passed away last year. For others in the organization, many of them from more conformist countries, they seem to like the vocabulary. Only in the most consensus based of organizations, is everyone's opinion considered and this might slow down progress sometimes, but gets it right in the end. Case in point would be James' issue with making non-binary members feel welcome, which are now overtly welcome to all meetings, leaving no single sex meetings to exist of any kind. This took awhile, yes, but it arrived. Financial contributions to upkeep the facilities and pay the staff and other operational expenses of the organization are not allowed for new members of a year or less anymore. Financial contributions from longer term members are not encouraged constantly, with one month of the year set aside to give the members an opportunity to contribute, if they want to. Finances are always hard for an organization to navigate and I do agree it should be well thought out, but there are no dues expected or hats passed around, it's handled very pragmatically. The practice of SGI Buddhism is a self-reflective hard look at where one is at in their present life and what "human revolution" they want to do to challenge their karma to get to where they want to be in their lives. This practice is a difficult and time consuming adventure and many people simply find reasons to not fight this inner battle, much in the same ways many people falter in exercise or other healthy behaviors. Like myself, James admits that the times that he did fight all out with this practice were some of his happiest memories. I hope James finds his way either with this Buddhist practice again someday or with another path that delivers the peaceful results for himself and the world at large that he and many others seek.
Even after all this, she talks about how she would have been promoted and got 10%... No, I doubt that "promotion" even existed, as described. It was all talk, smoke amd mirrors and gaslighting. There was no "woulda" bc its all BS and illusion. I imagine those who seemed to be above her weren't getting more money, they were just getting more screwed with new levels of nonsense to cost more rhan you'd ever make, and deeper indoctrinated. And the idea that people got "good results?" Probably no one. Those who didn't get caught up in the cult aspect just took some bullshit classes of totally worthless nonsense you could read in any basic book, wasted money and went home and back to their normal lives.
Wasn't this started by David Wilkinson? Seems it morphed into something else..
Mark, healing vibes to you. I’m do hope you find a donor kidney, if you haven’t already. Hugs!
To me It is very Christian in its practices, they say Hell! 😂 Is there even Hell in Buddhism? The Christian vs. Buddhist concepts are very different, in my opinion. SGI talks about Hell in a very scary, Christian way. Also, people say chant for this or that and chant for a good outcome. It’s basically the same process of how many people practice Christian prayer!
I’m getting interested in Buddhism and I was looking for temples in the city… SGI immediately seemed off. It seemed more like a church. Modern posters, and they sit in chairs? Immediate red flag. There’s a nearby place that supposedly is Vajrayana, so maybe I’m going to check that out.
WOW! This sounds just like Shincheonji! The leader is about to die because he's so old, so I think this will be exactly what will happen with that cult.
Hi Kacey, thanks for the video. I've been listening to some of your back catalogue on Spotify and just realised you're on UA-cam too. I'm really enjoying the back catalogue but I've got quite a few more to go through yet. Thanks again for your efforts, Regards Dave.
@@davidmarsh9897 thank you so much for tuning in! I hope the content is interesting!
I grew up in this cult. On Sept 18th ,1972 fifteen Minnesota couples (with 35 children between them) made a "life-long" covenant and called themselves Servants of The Light. I was one of those unfortunate children. By the spring of 1973 they had created 12 "households" where they lived together in a communal lifestyle, naming themselves, began sharing finances, food, prayer, all material goods, household time, and "discipline." I was tasked with babysitting for these households without pay and often by myself - during off-site meetings on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays - with 5 or more children and even newborns. I was doing this between the ages of 9-14. In 1985 they merged with another local similar group they had already been associating with for years, a group who called themselves the People of Praise, so they changed their name too. (Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrets group) I was interviewed by the cult expert Steven Hassan on growing up in this cult which is still on his website today. People of Praise saw some coverage I was in and responded with a LIE saying they "were never in MN over the years Lisa was in it." Infact the above info and all the dates was taken from a (now scraped) screenshot from POP's website that was given to me by a journalist who interviewed me. I have the photo for anyone who would like to see it. Growing up in this group was a terrible situation and my childhood was racked with division (not connected from to other family members, some division was figurative as we were told they were not Christians and going to hell) I was insecure and afraid of the "rapture" and told that all my "secular" friends were going to burn in hell and it was my job to save them. The judgmental attitude from this group from my own experience, is NOT what Jesus teaches. This is why Jesus only had issues with the "religious" people in the bible......
I would like to affirm Lisa’s experiences and would also argue that People of Praise actively lies about the status of Servants of the Light members as a pathetic attempt to distance itself from a pattern of abuse that it initiated. The truth is that there was no real distinction between SOTL and POP other than they initially had different cult leaders (Jack Brombach vs Ranaghan/DeCelles). And both Ranaghan and Brombach sat on the National Service Committee which encouraged charismatic prayer groups in the 1970s to morph into covenant communities following a common set of practices established by the committee. During that time, DeCelles often traveled to Minneapolis to teach and likewise Brombach came to South Bend to do the same. So when the two groups merged officially in 1984, it was just a matter of rebranding because they had been effectively tied at the hip from the beginning.
Absolutely. I was interviewed on the show Inside Edition about this cult and tried to explain this “merger” and people of praise rebutted to the show and said they were “never anywhere near Minnesota” during the time I was in it (lies of course) so I sent them the now deleted page from their website that I managed to get a screenshot of before they deleted it during the Amy Coney Barrett scandal. A time-line history confirming what you said above. I got Crickets as a response from them. I challenged them to pay for therapy for all the kids of the cult. Nothing.
The organization started in the late eighties and was called the Crossroads Movement at the time. And yes you reported on the absolute worst of it. Most of it wasn't that bad, but yes all of the bad you read could be found somewhere.
Actually the allegations against KSB were falsified... Noseweek did a 3 part documentary on Kwasizabantu how news 24 got it wrong, I highly recommend you check it out. Also the book by Gerda Potgieter a journey to the truth the case of Kwasizabantu mission. And then as well watch the morning shot episode on the mission. Kwasizabantu is not a cult and does not abuse its members, but it is hated by a small group of former members. How many cults accommodate thousands of visiting youth in youth conferences bi annually? The sermons preached at the mission are on its UA-cam channel as well if anyone is curious. Furthermore there are tons of testimonies on the mission website... Don't be duped into maligning a wonderful place by sensationalistic media mudsplattering.
These people wasn't I. The nation
I've listened to about 25 minutes of this video, and I'm not really convinced by this woman's story too much. So far, you said that they demanded a lot of your time and were a bit creepy with the discipleship thing, right? That's not really a cult thing. It sounds more like a controlling/insecure group-of-people thing. A lot of non-cult churches do this. Cults not only cut you off from your family and friends, but they also force you to do things you'd otherwise not be comfortable doing (NIXVM, Peoples Temple). Engaging in sexual acts, committing crimes, etc (NIXVM). The person who leads the cult typically has God-like or messiah status (NIXVM, Branch Davidians, Jehovah's Witnesses, Unification Church). They might even live off-grid and/or eschew the use of conventional medical treatment (Branch Davidians, Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientology, Christian Scientists). I was part of Dwell/Xenos for about 20 years. My wife and I left around 2020. The time commitment ended up being the thing that made us both leave. Over those two decades, I made it clear to everyone that I didn't want to be part of any leadership. Everyone understood and respected that. You are not a victim.
@@toadster_strudel are you suggesting that every person who has been a member of this group has had the exact experiences you have had?
@@CultVaultPod Not at all. But as she mentioned earlier in the interview, not every house church behaves the same way. Different leaders have different styles of leading their groups. What those individual leaders did were not necessarily sanctioned by the main church. I'm not an apologist for Dwell/Xenos. There are good reasons for why I left. My older brother, a long time leader, also left recently. One of their schools, Harambee Christian Schools, recently separated from them as well. Dwell has a huge PR problem, and they've been very bad at managing it. The Dwell model of fellowship becomes an opportune environment for controlling people to grow and blossom. This is unfortunate, because they have the potential to do so much good for central Ohio. I just think people are so quick to label a church a cult because they didn't like the people there. There is definitely a difference between a group like The Family and a controlling church like Dwell/Xenos.

DECULT CONFERENCE 2024: Why Was EX-Jehovah's Witness Danny de Hek Silenced and Dropped? #DECULT ua-cam.com/video/WJnRjPophlw/v-deo.html REJECTED from DECULT CONFERENCE 2024: Why Was EX-Jehovah's Witness Danny de Hek Silenced & Dropped? ua-cam.com/video/WrknN17Bn68/v-deo.html In this video, I share the unfortunate experience of being removed as a speaker from the upcoming DeCult 2024 Conference, despite already being publicly announced as part of the program. After receiving an email from Anke Richter, the event's director, explaining the decision, I felt compelled to respond publicly. This decision was made after members of the ex-Jehovah’s Witness (JW) community raised concerns about my inclusion in the event, resulting in DeCult's decision to retract my speaking slot. The reasoning? Concerns that my participation would keep a large portion of the ex-JW community from attending. While I understand the need to consider the audience’s comfort and safety, I believe this situation has been handled unfairly, as no one from DeCult approached me directly to hear my side of the story. In this video, I speak with Dennis Parker, one of the event co-organizers, via Zoom, where I express my frustration and disbelief at how this has unfolded. I’ve always aimed to use my platform to expose harmful organizations like Jehovah’s Witnesses, raising awareness of cult practices and helping people break free from controlling environments. I believe it’s ironic that DeCult, an organization dedicated to exposing harmful cults, is shunning me in a manner all too similar to the cult-like behavior we seek to expose. I’ve been deeply involved in exposing cults for years and have even done a successful interview with Lara Kaput, which DeCult themselves promoted. And the day of the committee meeting I conducted another interview with Rachel Lees - Interview with Lara Kaput - Ex-Jehovah’s Witness Whistleblower | DECULT Conference Preview - ua-cam.com/video/D0pD7hlsfTE/v-deo.html - Rachel Lees EXPOSES Cult Leader Bill Gothard's Downfall - DECULT Speaker Exclusive Interview: ua-cam.com/video/xObaYaKLSi8/v-deo.html Yet, despite this, more recent accusations have come forward that I’ve never had a chance to address with the organizers. It feels like an entire community has made a decision about me based on misinformation, and I wasn’t even given a platform to defend myself. Additionally, Rob Woolley, a colleague and respected figure from the Toastmasters and Rotary communities, wrote a heartfelt letter in support of me to Dennis Parker. In this letter, Rob highlights my professionalism and my ability to handle controversial topics with grace and humor. However, Dennis claims that this letter wasn’t passed on to Anke, leaving me even more perplexed as to how this situation has been handled. Key Points in This Video: I share the email from DeCult Director Anke Richter explaining their decision to remove me as a speaker due to concerns raised by the ex-Jehovah’s Witness community. My conversation with Dennis Parker, where I plead for a meeting with the DeCult committee to address these concerns and have my voice heard. My feelings of being treated unfairly and shunned, similar to the behavior cults impose on their members, ironically by an organization meant to fight against cult practices. A heartfelt letter from Rob Woolley supporting my character, professionalism, and ability to handle controversial topics, which was not passed on to the decision-makers. I believe everyone should have the chance to tell their side of the story before decisions like these are made. In this video, I ask for your feedback and invite you to share your thoughts on how this situation has been handled. Do you believe this decision was justified, or do you think I should have been given the chance to present my side of the story to the DeCult committee? Your input is valuable to me, and I encourage you to engage in the conversation. Let’s stand up against censorship, hypocrisy, and the very cult-like practices we’re working to expose. *CURRENT SPEAKERS LIST FOR DECULT CONFERENCE 2024* (27th Sep 2024) Dr. Janja Lalich, Dr. Gillie Jenkinson, Craig Hoyle, Caroline Ansley, Adam Dudding, Scott Homan, Sarah Steel, Ekant Veer, Tore Klevjer, Ulrike Schiesser, Luke Hollis, Lindy Jacomb, Maria Esguerra, Andre Afamasaga, Virginia Courage, Laura McConnell, Laura Muir, Bronwyn Rideout, Stephen Judd, Dennis Gates, Sunita Torrance, Anusha Bradley, Rachel Lees, Pearl Valor, Bec Sonkkila, Dhyana Levey, Ciaran Fox, Shayne Mechen, Natalie Malcon, Dave Booda, Lara Kaput, Adam Elmasri, Dr. Nicole Matejic, Micki McAllen, Ursula Cheer, Dr. Duncan Webb, Dame Sue Bagshaw. #DeCult #JehovahsWitness #Cults #Shunned #PublicSpeaking #ExJW #Conference #CultAwareness ------- THE CRYPTO PONZI SCHEME AVENGER WEBSITE: dehek.com PODCAST: podcast.dehek.com BOOKINGS: calendly.com/dehek UA-cam: ua-cam.com/users/dehek "If you found our collaboration helpful, I'd be grateful if you could leave me a Review! Convinced that the Unification Church is a CIA run institution
Oh man, let me say some words in favor of Nichiren Buddhism and SGI. First of all, Nichiren > SGI. It's just an organization you're free to join and leave, it's free of charge. Nichiren b. is considered a legit Buddhist school not some quirky sect. The chanting is, first and foremost, a powerful meditation technique that reminds you of the things you studied (Buddhist philosophy). That's it. There's nothing supernatural here, even "sensei" (Mr Ikeda) stated "Buddhism is reason". It's all about inner (!) transformation, while staying rooted in real life. The practice is not NOT a magic wish-granting spell, chanting will NOT get you a V12 Ferrari without working for it. But as these misunderstandings are flooding the net (and leaving people disappointed) there's certainly a point with poor Buddhist education. Chanting will not make your life easier. As for Mr Ikeda - accept him as a mentor or not, up to you. My mentor was a local guy, Yoshi. You choose. A last important point: Buddhism stands for peace, genuine (!!!) dialogue, respect, and religious freedom. While there might be fanatics around aggressively trying to "shakubuku" people (which are a pain in the €&&), the vast majority lets you be who you are. Check out the practice if you like, that's it. Really. You can keep the religion or mindset you already have. No prob. I go to church sometimes. In my experience, the sgi stuff is as harmless as it gets.
God’s judgment is real and anyone who lead his children astray will receive no mercy on the day of judgment. Their souls will wheep and forever be disturbed. God is REALLL and will not be mocked. Repent For God is sending warning…
Crazy! I bought one of their CDs from a weird guy in the parking lot after a Korn concert
My parents met in the Way. They both went through the Way Corps, during which they were used as unpaid workers, were sleep-deprived and starved, my mother was r*ped by numerous men, basically used as sexual currency, and my father was also close to other women who were systematically r*ped. My mother was even targeted by VPW himself. My parents left after we died and I was raised to believe in everything my parents learned in the Way. My parents both dealt with severe mental health issues before they joined the cult, but they were permanently scarred from their experience, and I myself now must contend with a number of disorders, including PTSD. I have attempted s*icide multiple times, and now even if I miss my meds for a few days, I get s*icidal again. This is what the Way does to people.
He's spot on! They had me partake as an instructor to be at a half day retreat I had taken as a student before and that's when I realized the level of mind control and emotional coercion (either boosting your ego or understanding your vulnerabilities and playing them to their advantage) and unfortunately noticed the chastising of a new instructor (despite their 'image' of not being monastic...) red flags everywhere... their practicer methods are very effective but they want every bit of your essence given to the 'guru' and organization... all the God given gifts like your creativity so on! A cult for sure!
Smith and Wesson never changed their is the only thing
I have been a sannyasín since 1985. This is such bigoted rubbish. The reason Osho is quoted by intellectuals is that he was a highly intelligent man. I will always be grateful for this amazing teacher.
In Delphi, IN the Old Order German still have horse and buggies and no electricity
What kind of Buddhists chant for the total defeat and destruction of fellow Buddhist sect, when both are from the same founder?
New Kadampa Tradition creepy, money-grabbing cult
