Nick Lowe's 'Quality Rock & Roll Revue' Starring The Los Straitjackets performing Elvis Costello's "Allison" at First Avenue Minneapolis, MN November 18 2021 What makes this end segment of "Allison" so incredible is not only Nick's pure and heartfelt voice but the absolute silence of the large audience. love it
I've loved this band since I was 11
Funny in the day every one hated punk .inc musicians.. I was sent home from school regularly. Due to the way i looked. Yet today every one claims to like it. 77 i was the only punk in a city school. In my area only 3 punks existed. The crown in Birmingham city centre was the only place you'd get a gathering. The uk82 scene was even more hated by 70s punks aswell. and even less popular. I fucking loved it. In my 20s then. My old man said are you ever going to grow up... No fucking chance..
Rainy & Cal & the crew @ its best... Like!!!
Pioneers
I saw Numan with Nash in Pittsburgh for that tour
PUNKS
METALS
MENTALS
NORMALS
Great Jam song not often played live.
IKR mate! Had to cut the footage to something a little deeper in their collection, luv "The Place I Love!"
Brutal as fuck
OMG! I was at this show!!! I couldn't believe it when I clicked on this video :) Thank you for the memories!!!
Very cool, small world indeed! 👍🏼🤙🏼
People forget how influential this album is on metal today. That D-Beat drum beat is named after these guys! Fun!
THIS is Heavy Metal. Just ahead of the curve.
@@ndogg20 not at all. This is HardCore Punk in it's very essence. Later Metalheads understood, that Heavy Metal is actually crap and adopted stuff like this
@@ranen7043 Agree but disagree. For me Hardcore was the early 80s, bands like Discharge here, Exploited, GBH, who differentiated themselves from Punk and New Wave with a deep harder faster sound that would never be mistaken for anything pop. And Metal at the time was beyond lame, with the exception of Motorhead, most of those Metal bands were forever stuck in 1971 in sound and style. I WOULDN'T call the Hardcore of the 80s Heavy Metal at the time, but unbeknownst to these Hardcore Punk bands (and me) they had created the future of underground Heavy Metal.
But still, it is not correct, to call Discharge, et. al. Heavy Metal in retrospect, only because some Metalheads incorporated the style into their stuff. Those bands did not want to have anything to do with Heavy Metal. Believe me, i was there. Metal was a swear word back in the day. They where Punks and felt like Punks and called themselves Punks. Not 77 Punk or Post Punk or Oi! Punk but HardCore Punk. Following your thoughts, it maybe would be more correct and approbriate, to call Extreme Metal HardCore Punk. But nobody would dare to do that 😆. Another Thing: i would not call Motörhead Heavy Metal, nor Hardcore Punk, for that matter.
@@ranen7043 Well agree to disagree then. Lemmy who was Motorhead even said his music wasn't heavy metal, just rock n roll. To me it's all metal, this coming from a person who was punk back in the day. I hated the 1980s metal and the mediocre arena rock acts of that time, still do. Bitter pill to swallow, but there was a line between Metal and Punk back then and both progressive hard core punks and experimental metal bands erased it. Sure, any nerd who keeps on top of the many trends can tell the difference IE; this one has cookie monster singing lead vocals, it must Black Metal, or Death Metal, or the many many more sub genres, but to the casual listener I have become over the decades, it's all metal, albeit heavily influenced by punk anger and energy with metal power chords.
I am lucky enough to say that I was there and loved every second of this show. He even came out with a little car when he sang “cars”. Are friends electric is still one of my favorite songs of all time Thank you Gary
not on this tour he didnt
Fantastic , well done.
Cheers mate!
Had no idea this existed.. Brilliant! Nash the slash ta boot Bonus!!!
I never saw this, Wow!! fucking legendary man and band! I don't care how young I am that's the Gary I love the best and his kick ass backing band he called his little nucleus!!!! Chris Payne (Moog Synths, Keys, Viola and Violin far left middle.), Rrussell Bell (Guitars, Keys and Electronic Percussion far bottom right) and Cedric Sharpley (Drums middle). But we also have his best mate and bass guitar player Paul Gardiner here on the far left bottom which died very young of a heroin overdose in 1984. When he was calling it a nucleus Paul was to be getting better to come back but he never did so sad I cried before and the songs Gary did in his honor made me cry as well. We also have here Dennis Haines on Moog Synths and Keyboards on upper middle right below Rruss. I can tell what songs just a bunch of rare silent 8mm footage pieced together in B&W Gary said he had Nash The Slash open those Touring Principle '80 North American Legs. Gary said him and the band were going to a club in Toronto before the tour would start and show in Toronto. He saw Nash The Slash who is featured first here before Gary and the band. Nash is a kick ass electric violin player that hails from Toronto. Gary and the band liked what they saw so gary wanted him to open the tour. The only flaw I see is that is a Teletour '80 Version of Me! I Disconnect From You and it doesn't go with footage from The Touring Principle '80 Shows. Bits and pieces of songs I know most which they are even if they are silent they stuck 1 whole song with it as far as the audio track. I cried some always that is the most inspirational man as far as one man in the music industry with a kick ass backing band also closest to me I know Gary is better now in his life. Plus so close with his current band since the 90's with some line-up changes along the way. Also he said being a family man helps now too with his wife Gemma and his 3 daughters Persia, Echo and Raven. But that Gary is the Gary Numan and band that started it all for me and they are closest to me love them always!!!!!!
Great comment - almost as good as the video itself. And just as important.
This is so great! Colorized!!
IKR!
And a cameo with his heroes ua-cam.com/video/j1_AMct8_pY/v-deo.htmlsi=b0l3C7JnT1gmodJN
that's the bloody album audio...
Never said it wasn’t.
MetalPunk as f*ck
It's amazing to think that he is bigger now than he was then ,for ever evolving, absolutely fantastic, what a man .
Explain how he is 'bigger' now please ? '79 & '80 No' 1 singles & albums ,Brit award for best male singer ,constantly in the music press ,on tv etc etc ,sold out World Tours in large venues etc etc. And now only remebered by the hardcore fans.
I was at the Boston show of this tour and it was memorable. Nash the Slash opened and he was great. He did a version of Baba O'Reilly, playing the power chords on his violin.
This is my essential “How to scare the piss outta my yuppie neighbors” records
Eu amo Discharge 🖤💀🤘
1979 Numan came out of no where to dominate the elctro scene with 2 number ones Are Friends electric is truly ground breaking it was life some Alien sounding andriod on stage with the likes of TIK and TOK , The Gigantious light show and a crowd of Numaniods I had never experienced anything like and have not since it truly was phenominal .
Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing So I Write Something here
Not really MIDFY. It's a montage
Great rare footage !
My work inspired by this.
😁
Male Karen
White people
This was Numan at his best and Nash the Slash was so original ,they were the complete show together, love it...
Where & when was this 👍🏻
Bruce Foxton harmonising...just adds so much depth to this great song. One of my Jam favourites.
The Jam played St Paul's Civic Theatre in Minnesota on 9th March 1980, and DID NOT SING The Place I Love on that night's setlist.
Yes Stephen, I am well aware that they did not perform “The Place I Love” that nite. Just wanted to use a song from The Jam that had a special place in my heart and one that was a little less predictable for a Jam video montage.
Excellent!
Ant my friend cool
Cuban born American raised have a good day my friend
I don't know you and I don't care but if you don't know Manny and you took something about me my man let me know
