What a great reminder of doing what is right for my shop no matter what the supplier needs. We are paying more freight to keep our orders down to get better control of our inventory.
@dwang8 DITTO!
suggest to get into the content earlier... Just listening to the podcast and took 15 minutes to get into the subject matter. Thanks for sharing just hope it could be a little more focused 😊
Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate the listen
Wow I’m not even in the industry but I listened to the whole thing! Great production value and awesome topics! I think the info in this video can be applicable to any trade 🔥

I'm annoyed that the bicycle industry is throwing so much support at ebikes to begin with... now roads and trails are even more dangerous for actual bicyclists. Most ebikes are motorcycles, not bicycles, especially the cheap ones purchased online that have a "throttle". I can easily spot an ebike rider as that person is riding as fast or faster than I am, only they aren't pedaling. Most ebikers I've met are not experienced bicyclists, they're non-cyclists that have little or no bicycling experience and now have a motorcycle with no licensing requirement to ride it, unlike purchasing a motorcycle or a car.
Want to talk to you about monetizing your UA-cam channel and some other important topics
Working on lighting in our shop this month -- thanks for doing this episode!
Passing along info on Hershey Cycles! Love the museum addition too. Kudos!
You did great Tony!
Hello, I saw your UA-cam channel. ( Action Figure ) Your channel has many videos but not enough views and subscribers. Your channel should be optimized, and your videos are very good but your video optimization is very bad Example: SEO score is very low, no perfect title - description - no SEO-friendly tags added, no social media sharing Platform, and some in your UA-cam channel Settings are not correct. Because of this, your video is not reaching the people who are interested and you are not getting enough views, likes, and subscriptions Many problems for which your video views and subscribers are not good. As a result, your video views are not affected. You need SEO for your UA-cam channel immediately. As a video SEO expert, I look forward to your response. I can help you grow your UA-cam channel Thank you
Can you please post a link to the podcast that you think would be the best one for someone who would like to open a new shop
Do you guys realize that not everyone got 6 figures to out fit the shop they have? I would suggest that this type video or the series should offer options for different budgets that shop owners may have. I know that for our shop we are a small family shop and we do our best to have a nice place to shop but buying products takes up most of our budget.
Hello! We appreciate your feedback. We do hope these episodes and case studies discussed can offer insight for shops at all levels and size.
I still have that book in a hard copy format from when i was in a shop in the 90's it really is the best.
15-yr mechanic/service manager here. I would like to see the long-term viability of a bicycle mechanic career addressed. This has been an ongoing problem for many years. The industry loses highly-skilled mechanics all the time, because the jobs are slow to pay a living wage. This may be somewhat dependent on location. But I can say for certain that this has been a serious problem in Portland, OR and San Francisco, two cities recognized as top-cycling cities. If Portland and SF are such stellar cities for cycling, why are the mechanics struggling to make ends meet? - Salvage removable valve cores from old inner tubes to replace bent valve cores in tubeless valves. - Some valves are more susceptible to becoming clogged than others. If it's an old Stans, there is an opportunity for an upsale to a high-flow valve which is less prone to clogging.
We are looking to discuss this on a future episode! Thank you for the feedback

The supplier (sell-in) includes Trek and All the major brands. The sell through at retail Is an algorythem based on a retailer Sampling. It is inclusive of all brands.
Hi All - Wanted to point out there are some errors in depiction and interpretation of the data in some of the charts presented here, I don't think this changes the overall takeaways too too much though. Parts I noticed: Industry Association (slide ~12min) - should be considered out of 144 respondents, not the 281 responses. Changes percentages accordingly: - NBDA 60.4% - PfB 28.5% - LAB 24.3% - Other (combined) 56.3% - None - 26.7% Shows greater industry association participation than is discussed, though still certainly room for collaborative improvement. Primary Marketing Strategy (slide ~29min) - same as above: considered out of 144 respondents, not the 261 responses. Changes percentages accordingly: - Market & promote - 84.7% - Communication - 46.5% - Sell merch - 34.7% - Schedule service - 9.7% - Other - 5.6% Paints a little less dire picture of retailers not using e-commerce selling ability, though still leaves room for improvement. POS Accuracy (slide ~41min) - slide shows accurate depiction of data, though interpretations discussed are off. Each category (i.e. bikes) is out of 144 total responses and vertical axis is a count how many responses of this 144, not percentage. - This changes the takeaways discussed a bit as lowers POS accuracy on bikes (of 75%+ to 88% from his 'over 100%' discussed). Similarly retailers reporting 75%+ accuracy level for other categories are: Ebikes 90%, Accessories 84%, Clothing/Shoes 83%, Service Parts 74%. - 100% level shows much need for improvement as discussed: Bicycles 73%, Ebikes 75%, Accessories 43%, Clothing/Shoes 55%, Service Parts only 33%. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions (mcinsightsmktg@gmail.com). Hope this helps!
I appreciate all your work to present this information. Can I ask, though, if ALL vendors are participating in reporting their figures? I have heard that Trek, for instance, is very private about their numbers. Is this so? Are they included here?
Are there any US manufacturers of E-Bikes? Should we be using our Federal Government to send millions of dollars to China, one of the worst global polluters.
Cool thank y’all .. learned a lot ..
which email address?
Most E-Bikes being sold are hub motor driven. 99% of the e-bikes I work on are hub motor driven. I would not worry immediately about being Bosch or Shimano certified because the demand is not there and would not be cost effective. Right to repair is an issue with e-bikes. Manufacturer specific repair information should be available to the public. The barrier to brand specific certification will only affect consumers and bike shops in a negative way. The few bicycle shops that will work on e-bikes will have fewer numbers certified by Bosch and other brand certifications. Consumers of Bosch E-bikes will face the issue of finding a bike shop that can work on their bicycle without voiding the warranty. Basically, it's like buying a tesla and the customer being surrounded by a large amount of auto shops not being able to repair it.
Totally agree
Very insightful presentation! The OEM I work with in China has no plans for further shipments in the coming months. Very telling. One very small part of your presentation, however, is not complete in my view. "Energy Shock from the Ukraine/Russia conflict". You need to research that a bit better and add some balance. Inflation causation in the USA is simple. Big Government printing way more money than we can ever back. Period. That's it. Plus unlike in the past, the biggest buyers of our currency, China and Russia, are no longer interested. The lowest amount of US dollars in international circulation for decades is now. It's sitting here in the USA instead. My advice, resist the Biden Liberal Media talking points and excuses for bad policy making.
It's hard enough to see and predict global economic forces without introducing the silly fights between factions of our domestic bourgeoisie as explanatory factors.
Very comprehensive presentation by Mike (as always). Curious why he didn't mention the power adapters failing also ,as the one customer of ours experienced on a $1,000.00 e-bike.Upon further review ,the certificate accompanying it from a Chinese testing lab only said -> Applied for ! Be aware please, people.
As you are taking I'm building a fire proff ebike storage area for my shop. ReCycle Bike Shop LLC wisconsin
Earls!
A serious question about overseas production. When this show was recorded, it may not have been evident that China is going to take Taiwan. The Chinese government care only about the land, not the people, it's quite possible that China will just level the entire island. Is the industry trying to move away from production in China and Taiwan, or will be looking at a huge supply chain loss that will end most bicycle shops in the rest of the world?
Great info, Any updates since
Why does there need to be ebike specific laws? It's not the typ of power than determines how safe a vehicle is operated. It's the rider. Why cant the same rules be applied to all vehicles? 1. Limit all vehicles to 25 mph while in intersections and within 4 feet of any pedestrian. 2. If ANY vehicle can exceed 30 mph it must be insured and banned from regular bicycle paths 3. If Any Vehicle can exceed 40 mph it must be registered and the operator must have a car or motorcycle license, or permit. 4, If any bike can exceed 50 mph it must follow the same rules as motorcycles including following the traffic regs. and licencing, registration and insurance requirements. See, it very simple to come up with safety rules without discriminating against e-bikes and coming up with confusing class systems.
William I couldn't agree with that more!
@@woodtickgreg6926 Thank you. I should clarify, when I mention speed of the bike I'm referring to riding on a level surface, not as the result of inertia from going down hill.
Rachelle, Ryan, and Suzie, thank you so much for creating this content! A great resource for Bicycle Retailers and bike industry folks in general. Y'all are gems!

Great listen. We are on the same page as nick on so many points here. We have been working towards a diverse multi-brand experience for years. In our case we were once nearly all cannnondale shop. As more brands appeared in our store, we immediately drew in new customers who we never met before. I believe that a single brand focus is now a path that ends with that brand owning you. Be your own brand!

I can't believe how bad customer service is at Specialized. I have sent several emails to them without them actually receiving a proper response to my conplaint plus a LinkedIn message to Mike Sinyard without a response from him either. Having bought an Aethos 7 months ago, which then got a large crack on the top tube when the handlebars swung round and hit it when slipping over at less than 5kph, all they would offer was a small discount on a new frame rather than honor the warranty! Won't be buying another Specialized in future if this is the quality of their after sales service.
Actually sharing his phone number openly on youtube though?
Why is there this much flex in the SL7?
