Part 5: Memory
“-Are you sure that's what they said?” Tang hears a muffled voice say as he comes to.
A blanket is draped over his shoulders. He blinks, and looks around.
This wasn’t… Well, it wasn’t anywhere he recognized. He was surrounded by his friends, and ruin. The sun had almost completely set, but wasn’t it just morning?
Oh no. Did he black out again?
That’s been happening a lot. He’s been losing hours of his life, and Tang has no idea why.
It’s pretty jarring.
“Yeah! They said that they shouldn’t have trusted it when something so powerful just ended up on their doorstep!” MK explained, arms waving around dramatically.
“So someone literally mailed that key to their doorstep?” Mei questioned, putting her hands in her pocket.
Both of them looked a little roughed up.
Actually all of them looked rough. Including himself, Tang noticed. His clothes were- Wait.
When did he change clothes?
“Yeah!” MK blurts out.
“Huh. That is weird. I didn’t even know they had a doorstop.”
Tang clears his throat, completely confused. “Um, what happened? Where are we?”
“TANG!” Everyone yells suddenly at hearing his voice, expressions overjoyed.
Pigsy yanks him into a hug. “You’re back!”
“What, what happened?” He stuttered, even more confused. “Did I zone out again?”
“Uh, yeah.” Mei states. “For like, three weeks this time.”
“Wait what?” Tang shouts in surprise.
“I was so worried.” His husband squeezes him tighter. “You didn’t talk, didn’t speak, just wandered around to help random people. It was so freaky.”
Tang was starting to feel faint. “Three… Weeks…” He nearly passes out.
“Here, sit down.” Pigsy guides him to the floor. “Just catch your breath.”
“Three weeks.” It’s still a lot to wrap his mind around. Three weeks? An hour, two, hell even five hours that one time, was manageable.
But weeks?
What was going on?
“As soon as the city pulls itself back together I want you to see a doctor.” Pigsy tells him fretfully, leaving no room for argument.
Tang just meekly nodded, not having the energy to argue, even if he had no faith any doctor could help.
Maybe they could find out what was wrong, but for some reason, Tang doubts whatever is going on could even be fixed.
