I’m a bit confused. You said the FM bleed was bad so you changed the antenna, but that made it worse. Later you said “these are good radios”. I’m confused. Also, you said “China, please improve with your radios”. For the record, Sangean is a Chinese radio brand that has been making radios since the 1950’s. Sangean makes incredibly good radios, comparable to Panasonic and Sony.
True I did mess up on the video I did modify the antenna that I regret doing because It made the radio more unstable and I still don't have a replacement I am interested on getting a Sdr like radio but its around 130$ But I don't know when I will have that enough money
This kind of chat takes me back in time. CB radios used to be like this back in the day. Kinda giving away my age. Just getting into the GMRS thing.
@@gliderrider CB radios are still around and people still use them to communicate mainly During the Tropo conditions CB radio can travel long distances and can speak to people Across the country I would love to get a CB radio but I can't find the Proper one that is portable

Listening on this frequency right now 13/01/25. It sounds like two guy speaking Afrikaans. One guy sounds like he is telling a joke.
What station is it going to be?
It’s a bilingual AC now as La Exitosa 98.7
@ocbusfan Spanish station?
@@matthewconceicao7112yes, a Spanish presentation but with Spanish and English songs from the 1980s to 2010s
@matthewconceicao7112 kind of a hybrid. Plays basically the same format as before with the usual English language AC hits but interspersed with Spanish language hits Think a Bad Bunny song followed by a Phil Collins 80s hit followed by something from Shakira's pre-English language days Had it on today and didn't realize the change (as it had played 3 straight English language hits, one of which was Phil Collins ironically) until the announcer was in Spanish (not bilingual but know enough to have recognized the words "98.7" and though it was some sort of TJ show prank until I looked it up). Pleasantly surprised the "TJ pop up" actually lasted 4 months
You should set the frequency to 462.625 and the bandwidth should be Wide band, not Narrow band.
You can get a TIDRadio TD-H3 GMRS and unlock it into "normal" mode, then you got something that's also legal to transmit on GMRS. It's more expensive than the UV-5R, but I have two and it's worth the extra money, for the features packed into it and the insane frequency range that the reciever will tune to. I have no idea how good it recieves, but it will tune all the way down into the 17M/18MHz band. That's actually insane, if you can come across any FM in the 10M+ range it should pick up with the right antenna. I love these fantastic cheap radios, they get better by the year.
@@kmemz true I'll look into it in the near future
It does nothing the Baofeng’s don’t at twice the price. I own all the Chinesium radio brands. Your knowledge is too limited to weigh in with any opinion.
@@petemitchell6788 So you're saying a UV-5R can hit a broadcast radio harmonic at 19MHz, as well as a data transmission in the 915 band? That it can tune to broadcast radio at the press of a button? That it can have custom firmware put on it, to expand its capability with things like AM and USB recieving, fast seek, fine tuning TX power? I chose the H3 because I could do all of this sort of stuff in the future. In fact, on one of them I already did, the stock firmware limits the max frequency to 550 so that's the radio the 915 band bit came in on, I got to hear my Meshtastics put out little fart noises 😄. Gonna go out on a limb and assume that's all a no, since I haven't seen those features on mine.

I agree with you. yea I didn't know much about this radio but I'm kinda getting the hang of it

You'd benefit from an external antenna like a tuned 462 MHz monopole with built in ground plane leads. Those little duckies are pure trash on the SWR meter, amazed they even work at all...
@@thetruthserum2816 well I do have a external antenna tuned into those frequencies I don't use it often the stock antenna is not that bad but you're right
The external antenna the radio came is good I like It but I prefer telescopic antenna better it obviously fits better in my backpack if I bring it to the park or something
Get well
It’s easy if you’d like to talk to ppl, you just have to buy the license for it. But it’s not the easiest process but it’s worth it in the end. I’ve chatted with many people using radio-radio and repeaters. Lots of fun for traveling
There’s also GMRS variants of the UV-5R, I recommend getting one of those
Eventually I will get the GMRS and Ham Radio license Right now I'm learning more about this hobby with The UV-5R I'm listening to GMRS and Ham Radio and scanner channels with the Radio and I am still learning how to use the radio
@@konnordavis5936 Thanks for the recommendation I'll look into getting the GMRS Version of the UV-5R
@@RadioWhiz it’s lots of fun especially if a lot of people in your area use it and have repeaters, the tricky part is making an fcc account because I requires a lot of stuff about you, but it’s a government website so it’s safe.

You can get gmrs on a jailbroken UV-5R?
@@catcans yes I think so
yes , but its illegal to transmit on GMRS with that radio as its not part 95 certified.
Yes, it's easy :) YT vids will show you how to "Unlock" the Radio then vids to use a free software called CHIRP,... Buy a programming cable super cheap, plug into computer, program all the GMRS Simplex channels then look up GMRS Repeaters in your state/area, load them in & even name them if you want ;) It's not "Illegal" because FCC doesn't have Laws but it is technically against the Rules lol.

@@threepistols7 thank you
There being a roger beep or "courtesy tone" that's a repeater, likely on 462.600Mhz.
@@william_k4arx thank you for telling me the right frequency I'm still learning how to use this radio it's pretty hard to use but im learning how to use it
I am learning the GRMS frequencies also but I was under the impression if the TX of the repeater 462.600 it could be either + or - offset of usually 000.600 which makes the repeater input freq 463.200 if offset is + or if - offset would be 462.000, or am I just wrong?
