Was it paint mixed with just water for the background? What material brand do you use?
Yes I just mixed water with acrylic. I use golden acrylic for backgrounds a lot but any heavy body acrylic will do. I also like liquitex, masters touch heavy body, and Blick brand :)
Do you mix your colours or straight from tube most ?
A little bit of both honestly! Sometimes I want a super bright neon color and sometimes I want something more muted.

What are your thoughts on the longevity/ durability related to using yarn? I personally can’t get past thoughts of how dirty and dusty the yarn component is going to get across time.
Hmm interesting thought. I actually hadn’t thought about dust, but the archival quality is something I’m always thinking about like what type of adhesive I use etc. it’s so interesting to think about how even oil paint changes over time too. Hopefully it lasts a long while but I’m also not too worried. I think it’s really beautiful how we have old Roman statues etc that used to be painted and now the paint has faded away and they’re different to us.
I noticed a fiber artist at Art Basel presented all of their works inside of hanging glass/ acrylic boxes. My first thought was, "Oh good no one will have to dust the piece."

A plastic or glass covering sounds like a good possibility- as long as it doesn’t obscure the aesthetics of the piece. I would think ‘soft art’ would be more prone to viewers wanting to touch than a painting would be. oil from lots of hands would become a magnet for dirt and dust 😊

I love it ! So do you start with acrylic and then move to oil or do you go straight to oil ? I’ve been using mainly acrylics but I’ve been thinking moving to oils for my abstracts.
I love the transparency of acrylic when watered down so I start with acrylic. Then I move on to oils for areas I want to be thicker and have richer color 😊
