My ancestors were from Bad Doberan, Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Aschaffenburg, Bayern, Prussia. Surnames are Schmidt, Schott, Seivert, Keitel, Eland.

my maiden name is KLUDT where the d is silent. One of my ancestors' last name is Reisner (sometimes spelled Reissner).
Found the g for ch spelling variation in my tree with SCHLICHTERMANN, also written: Schligtermann, Sligtermann

I have a journal from an distant relative who served in the Balkans during the First World War in old German I would like to have it translated or learn how to translate it myself, I took German in college but had no-one to practice with and forgot most of it. I have been to Buchenau and Damstadt Germany(near Marburg) and met some of my distant relatives. I. also have photos of my Grandmother with her siblings and parents in old traditional garb.

Thank you this will be very helpful...For my great-grandfather surname Paul (b in Kaiserslauten)in the German script it has a swoosh over the letter u and I forgot what that represented?
Great question! That's just how "u"s were written in the old German script - with that little swoosh over them!
