An OK DInghy sailor tries out a Finn on a GUSTY day. And then the luff panel starts to split under cunningham tension - so retires while leading the race on the 2nd beat.

Practicing during DMYC Frostbites. Again, easiest way to practice and stay out of the way is to sail around the course ahead of the fleet.

That's hummin along quite nicely.
How did you find Sailing the Finn apposed to the OK? Are you still sailing?
It's an interesting comparison. If you're not big and fit enough, the Finn will take control of you where the OK won't. But if you ARE big and fit enough, I suspect a Finn is easier to sail. The OK, with the chine, is 'fiddlier' on a dead run, and fussier upwind. Plus, the Finn's hull handles chop upwind more easily than the OK and there's more length in general. And I suspect the OK is more prone to pitchpoling, with comparatively little volume forward of the mast. Horses for courses. The OK is probably actually more 'technical' to sail in many ways, and the Finn more physical. I sailed Finns before and after gaining quite a bit of strength and weight and whereas the Finn bullied me beforehand, I found it lovely afterwards. And I love the OK for how precisely you have to sail it. Millimetres matter. Hope that makes sense!
@@HughSheehy Awesome! yes, that makes sense. I am a recent convert to the OK, and very much enjoying it at 110kg I am at the heavier end. I've been watching a lot of your videos lately, it let me get my head around the low boom and fair few other niceties that rear camera offer. I did however discover that the centerboard coming completely up on a run is not a good thing :D :D but is certainly a fun boat that requires a lot of attention There are quite a few Finns coming up for sale at the moment over here (NZ) where the OK's still seem to be pretty hard to come by without going new.
@@nzmadmike1 I can't comment on the NZ market, but there were a lot of people here too heavy for Lasers that stayed in them, and too light for Finns who bought them anyway. The OK would (IMHO) have been a great solution for them all but just didn't get the love. On downwind, I was never good enough to sail with no CB in the OK. Maybe it's possible if you can sail up exactly on the chine, but I needed some CB for resistance to sail the angles and to be able to turn. I didn't sail the Finn enough to know, but I don't think I could have managed it there either.
Smooth.
Thanks. That's not the right sail for that mast - which I notice even on video in how the boat reacts to puffs! Plus, I should hike more!
Here we arch a master a work.
Got this Chromebook with galiumOS as well! Cheers!
I reckon the rocking back and forth on the downwind / generating motion isn’t allowed?
It is if the rocking facilitates a turn
Forgive my bad technique.
This is the original attempt. There's a newer version that's a little neater.
Herself was out in 6 degree air and water in bare feet, no gloves, no hat, no extra layer on top of the basic 5/4 wetsuit. Yes, she's mad. It was SUPER gusty too, so she hadn't gotten used to the conditions before she got cold and came in.
very zen indeed :)

Gotta stop chewing gum!
No port- starboard infringement obvious to me
I think they are following the stay in phase rule. It is better to go the right way win some local argument.
Dont you guys respect the starboard tack rule? This must be prison rules or something

Battery ran out on approach to the line. Plus there are a couple of breaks in the GPS track.
Yes. This should have been recorded at a faster pace.
