I wasn’t born before he retired but my word what a hero
I couldnt reach the wee pedals.
I'm sure you could have done better☺
*👍супер и привет от тренера по футболу!!!!!!!*
Jackie Stewart Crash Tests the Jaguar. To his credit, he accepts blame, admits to the error. Great driver and a true gentleman.
This is why I don't consider most modern F1 driver's as "greats". They don't race in different cars or series.
A very modest man not afraid to admit he made an error,a great ambassador for Scotland
The 80s was a golden era for motorsports. Massive power, evolving aero and materials, legendary drivers and huge tobacco sponsors. And Dunlop tyres.
That was the nicest way to say the car sucked.
Can’t bare the man! 😂
Bear is the correct word and spelling.
2:30 I imagine that would be a huge problem for me. I almost dig my heels into the floorplan sometimes
Jys had terrific attention to detail
How boring? Zzzzzzzzzzz
Shut up.
I want to see this engine in an XJ220...
Didn't know he drove this...
Snap understeer
This car was built in Valparaiso Indiana...I sat in it in 1988 at 8 years old at the popcorn festival. It started an obsession with sport cars and the color purple.
LOL - So articulate about the reasons why he smashed the car
JYS - what a legend and a gent. will there ever be another like him?
When he admits it was his own fault, the accident, he is just infinitely humble. Great man, great man indeed.
Indeed, and in an odd way confidence. 3 times champion, nothing to prove.
In a ways, he took a top of the line race car for a spin and wrecked it. xD
わーすごい
I think that car that passed by at 1:15 might have been a McLaren MP4/4B- which was a 1988 test mule car for Honda's V10 engine for 1989. It was a modified MP4/4 chassis with a Honda V10 instead of a turbocharged V6.
+hmdwgf It pretty sure is!
And it looks like it was Senna at the wheel.
Good eye! Looks like mp4/5 bodywork minus the overhead air intake ...
When Sir Stewart made his comment about Apply Yourself, he became my new God. When he spoke about the silk cut carrying her weight out back, i bowed my head in accord. As HE explained how he wrecked the car in the corner....I was, DUDE! ME TOO! thank you Jaguar. Thank you Tom Walkinshaw, Thank you Polyphony Thank you Gran Turismo (4,5,6...)
Hmm, I know that they tried a double overhead cam on the sprint cars, but it lifted the cars centre of gravity and destroyed the handling, so they went back to a SOHC. I wonder if this was the DOHC version. Btw im not trying to give Jackie an excuse.
with all race cars, be it F1 or a Prototype Sports car, there is a balancing act between the overall length of the wheelbase and the size of the engine. Between 1993 & 1994, the original Lotus F1 them switch between those seasons from Ford V8 engines which were light and relatively easy engines to install, to Mugen-Honda V10 units. These weren't only heavy compared to the V8's they used the previous year, but it was also heavy and slow compared to other V10's in use in F1 at the time. The result was, Lotus failed to score any points in 1994 and went out of business the following year. Just the installation of a V10 instead of a V8 transformed the characteristics of the car for the worse.
Also Lotus had the same Honda turbo engine that was in the McLaren MP4/4, but they didn't have the same smaller clutch that McLaren had developed so they tilted the engine to get it to fit, but it again destroyed the handling and even with Nelson Piquet driving, the Lotus was nowhere. And this was they beginning of the end for Lotus as the lack of results meant less sponsorship which led to less money to spend on a new car. Then each season the process repeated itself until the end of the team Really it just turned into a long drawn out death for one of the greatest teams in F1
+John Phillips very true, Lotus must have wished they had the services of Gordon Murray. It is amazing that the MP4-4 had almost the same dimensions as the Brabham BT-55 of 1986 and yet it only scored 2 points that whole season. It turns out the BMW engine suffered from poor oil circulation due to the crankshaft being cantered over to 72° from the central axis, Murray himself said that the V6 Honda was better able to cope with those dimensions than the BMW 4 cylinder...
I want you two to continue spitting out interesting 80/90's F1 facts. I had never known about the tilted engine.
In Gran Turismo 6 I have the same problem with the car. It slides a lot but if you counter steer the car follows the front wheels.
awesome car its the best!
the panels covering the rear wheels where designed to be easily removed. they were there for aerodynamic efficiency
1:15 - MP-4/4!!!! Can't tell if it's Senna or Prost though - probably a test driver. This era of F1 and sports cars were incredible - personality and performance. Great vid!!!
Good spot !
wow seriously i'll hand it to u ure a troll that dosent give up even if it has taken u 2 months to reply... wot are u jackie stewarts boyfriend or do u have to toss off every time u see him' the real problem is ure just jealous cause i know more than u... get a fucking life rather than be a keyboard jockey who is made of paper in real life.
(follow on) 1. i have the documentary & have watched others many of times 2. i've been up close & personnel with the car & touched & looked into cockpit i even had the priveledge of standing within less than a meter looking at the engine 3. i go to the events where itnormally goes i.e goodwood, silverstone classic & even considering going to le mans classic... U comment at me with pure AMATUER TROLL stupidity & i find it amazing how u call yourself the age of 42 yea & im 1000 years old... u fool
This is an XJR-8, not 9
I heard that one of the XJ's was almost totaled by jackie from the XJ's Le mans documentary. To be honest tho great man dont get me wrong but i mean back then there would have been a major difference between a single seater (F1 car) and the XJR-9 cause F1 car's where stupidly light with no safety features untill jackie put a stop to it, now the sprint XJR-9 I dont know much about but the endurance model i know, so if they had the same fuel tank which i dont know it would be how jackie describes.
