Let’s Talk About the Books I Read in July | July Reading Wrap-Up
I absolutely love the journal! So cute! All the little ghosties!
@@thegrimhobbyist Thank you!
Is that journal still available and if so where? I usually get whatever off amazon, but that one looks pretty. I got this one in dark purple with black pages. Though need to get pens that actually show up on the paper
@@VivifyPearl I actually just put the link in the description so you could just click but I got it on the scribbles that matter website. The black pages are so pretty! You might try acrylograph markers! They’re like paint and will mark on just about anything. You can probably find videos of them on UA-cam somewhere. They have thin tip and wide tip.
@spookylittlebooknerd Okay thanks because I'm trying to get into journaling, but usually fail at keeping up with it since never like my set ups. Also this is the first video of yours I came across and just love the sign you have in the back. Actually just bought the Chucky blow mold from Walmart they have from their Halloween valentines day collection
@ Just remember journaling doesn’t have to be perfect or extravagant. It just has to make sense for you and be fun. You can just make fun doodles or whatever you feel in the moment. 🖤 That’s so cool! Childs Play was my very first horror movie so Chucky holds a special place in my heart. I had my sign special made from Clumsy Wizard Art. She has an Instagram page. All of her art is amazing.
Can’t wait to see a mid year update on your journal ! Mine is just a page per book with a cover photo, info, and a lil blurb of what I thought, what it was for, etc. I can send you some private pics on IG, if you’d like.
@@theokiereader I would love to see it!
I like the pinterest wishlist idea, what a sweet husband. Happy Anniversary!
@@books-on-a-wire Thank you!
Very cool and cute. I love the little envelope to keep your ticket stubs and the DnF graveyard, both very cool ideas! This is way cooler than my reading journal, mine's just simple and uber beginners.
@@edlewisnoctreviews Thank you! There is nothing wrong with simple. It’s probably a lot easier to keep up with too.
@spookylittlebooknerd I thought it better since it's an experiment for me this year. But I love what you're doing with yours.
That is a really nice journal, and you set it up beautifully.
@@mindysbookjourney Thank you!
I probably said this before, but Legacy Witches is absolutely gorgeous. It's so cool when you read something and it affects you enough that your environment spooks you, the book/story just nails it then. The Weight of Blood sounds really good.
@@edlewisnoctreviews Legacy Witches is definitely gorgeous! Love that edition. I love when a book can make me jump like that. I was impressed!
That journal is so fun! I don’t really journal, but love to see what folks do
@@kleffgoeverafter Thank you!
Love your journal! Especially your movies page 😍
@@Kritz_Reads Thank you!
Hi SLBN, greetings again from Toronto. I hope you are well. I like your new journal and I love how you’ve personalized it! I’m jealous. I write random notes in my iPad calendar and on a real calendar (‘cause I don’t fully trust technology!). I do have a physical TBR notebook, which I’ve kept ever since I started with Booktube. It’s a necessity! I also have another notebook in which I write down my library holds, books read and a quick review. This is also helpful as my daughter always wants me to e-mail her my current reads. Take care, enjoy your journal and happy anniversary!
@@andrewcrow1031 I like your system! It sounds effective and easy to maintain. Throw some stickers on there and you have your own reading journal. Haha. I know what you mean about technology. It’s too easy to lose everything and have to start over. Thank you! 🖤
I love the journal! It's so cute and creative. I tried doing a journal last year and quickly learned that journaling is not for me. 😅 I'm bummed about Scarelastic, but hopefully, we can find another event to attend. Also, Happy Anniversary!
@@erieluck75 Thank you! I didn’t do good at keeping up with my journal last year. I just got too busy. Gonna try it one more time. I’m bummed about Scarelastic too! I bet we can find something fun.
Added the pilo family circus to my TBR and shared the Chasing the Dragon book with my hubs. He loves Deadpool
@@theokiereader Yay! I hope you both enjoy them!
Thank you so much! He's in for one hell of a time. Promise :) So proud of that book.
It sucks that there were so many this year that you didn’t enjoy. Hopefully this year you won’t have as many.
@@theokiereader I hope so too! Thank you!
Hi SLBN, greetings again from Toronto. I hope you are well. Thanks for the video, it was interesting. I’m pleased to say that I’ve never heard of any of the authors on your list! Now I can check them all out on my library’s web page and see which ones are available to put on hold. I’ll do that now. Take care and good reading to you!

I gifted a copy of My Husband to Shelby, but I haven't even read it yet myself. Lol. I think she liked it, though. It's on my list for this year!
@@erieluck75 It’s a real treat and a quick read! Can’t wait to see what you think of it!
I completely agree about Legacy Witches. I loved that book way more than I thought I would.
@@Kritz_Reads Same! I didn’t know what to expect really going into it. I really need to read part 2.
I remember you talking about a few of these. I have The Island, and have heard some not so good things about it, but it kind of sounds funny, too. I don't know if I'm going to read The Carrow Haunt, but it sounds like an interesting idea behind it but still kind of disappointing.
@@edlewisnoctreviews We definitely all experience books differently. It’s so wild how one person could absolutely hate the same book that someone else absolutely loves. It’s part of the fun! Haha.
@spookylittlebooknerd Indeed.
@@spookylittlebooknerdyes agree 💯. Reading is subjective
I would have thrown The Carrow Haunt across the room when I read that ending. I'll be avoiding that one from Darcy Coates haha!
@@thegrimhobbyist I wanted to! 😂
Good to know about spookily yours. I figured it was a cozy, slightly supernatural romcom. I don't like the idea of the tone change. So I'll probably skip it. Great vlog 👏
@@Patricknight_ Thank you! Happy to read it so you didn’t have to. 😂
Wolf Hunt sounds like a fun read, I'll have to add it to my wishlist. A vampire with an eating disorder, interesting; I once read a book with a vampire with hemophobia. I've heard good things about Gone to See the River Man, and mostly the same for The Only Good Indians. I have yet to read Misery, but love the film adaptation.y favourite for 2024 was Against the Darkness by Kendare Blake.
@@edlewisnoctreviews A vampire with hemophobia? I’m intrigued! What book was that? I will definitely check out Against the Darkness!
@spookylittlebooknerd It's A Quick Bite by Lyndsey Sands
@ I’m gonna have to check that one out too!
I DNFed the Carrow Haunt (WHAT A DUMB ENDING WHAT THE HELL!) and Spookily Yours (literal trash writing - the whole part where her best friend runs off with some guy was so not true to the character - random and weird and flat!) And I wish I had DNFed the pumpkin spice cafe 🤣 I was so happy watching this video and feeling validated haha
@@happyhauntslibrary I’m glad it wasn’t just me! Now I feel validated too! 😂 And now you know what you really didn’t miss with The Carrow Haunt. Haha.
Hi SLBN, greetings again from Toronto. I hope you are well. I love your T-shirt! I remember watching Movie Macabre on late night TV when I was younger. Have you seen either one of her 2 movies? They’re silly and funny. I just read her autobiography ‘Cruelly Yours, Elvira’. It was good, you should see if your library has it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Pumpkin Spice Cafe and have it in my TBR notebook; now I’m having second thoughts. Stalking Jack the Ripper is also in my TBR, but it sounds a bit disappointing. I like strong female characters, so maybe this book isn’t for me. Darcy Coates has been hit or miss with me, but I liked Carrow Haunt. I agree, the characters made silly decisions and the ending was a bit of a letdown. But really, it’s what Francesca from ‘Francesca’s Books’ calls a ‘popcorn book’. I enjoyed it for what it was. Take care, and good reading to you!
@@andrewcrow1031 Hi! Thank you! Yes, I have seen her movies and loved them. They are so fun. I have Cruelly Yours, Elvira on my shelf. I just need to actually read it! 😂 You never know. You may actually like Pumpkin Spice Cafe and Stalking Jack the Ripper. That’s the cool thing about books. We all experience them different ways. Other people have enjoyed Pumpkin Spice Cafe. I will say on The Jack the Ripper one none of the 3 of us liked it because of the main character. 😬 Thank you for watching!
@@spookylittlebooknerd Thanks, if I can find the time (too many other books!) maybe I will give those 2 books a chance…
"There's a literal fucking killer, and you're all like, "oh, it's just the wind." 😂😂 I didn't particularly like The Carrow Haunt. There is definitely rampant stupidity in that one. I've enjoyed the other books I've read by Coates more.
@@adriennelee26 😂I may could have held back a little. Glad I’m not the only one on The Carrow Haunt!
Pumpkin Spice Cafe does not live up to the hype at all! I was sad about Stalking Jack....what I did read, was 😑 Darcy Coates is seems like a couple steps up from RL Stine. They have a similar "style" according to your spoiler of that book. On to the 5 stars for 2025!
@@kellyhookedonbooks4394 Glad it’s not just me on Pumpkin Spice Cafe and Stalking Jack the Ripper. Yes! Very R.L Stine of her. 😂

Nothing irritates me more than characters continually making bad decisions to move a plot forward and dumb women. 😆
@@erieluck75 Same! 😂
I've tried three Darcy Coates books and DNF all of them. I don't think she's a writer for me.
@@literarylove123 That’s good to know! I love that it’s not just me! She’s not for me either obviously. 😂
I forgot how annoying the MC was in stalking jack the ripper. I own that book as a box set. I really should try one more to make sure they are all like that and unhaul. I just keep putting it off. I have read quite a few Darcy Coates novels at this point....and I'm not sure any of them have gotten higher than a 3 star from me. I'm not sure why I keep trying, but they are all lackluster for me. It's like Horror-lite.
@@Kritz_Reads She was the worst! Curious if the books get better. I only had the one book in the series. Glad I’m not the only one with Darcy Coates! That makes me feel better.
