Estoy aprendiendo mucho Me.encanta!!
Thank you so much Maria :) I would love to explain it but I don't see myself making new videos in the future. If you go to my Trac Borders video, you will find an explanation there. It is one of the first things I demonstrate. It is very simple. As long as we're talking about reed of course. With willow it is more difficult.
I think you're right. It is too much chatter. If I'll ever make more videos, I'll make an effort to be more straightforward.
Do you usually work with salix purpurea or alba or viminalis?
I work mostly with purpurea, but not because of any particular preference. It's just what I was able to acquire.
Since your English sounds pretty Israeli, I assume you’re Israeli :) How do you obtain your willows over there? I was observing the flora in Israel and didn’t see any willows anywhere I’ve been. Do you grow your own, somehwere, or you import them? Your channel looks pretty informative btw, I’ll go through all your content.
Thank you very much. Indeed there is not much willow here, but there is one type that grows on river beds. I see a lot of it when I go fishing. Some guy actually started growing this willow for himself. I myself use imported willow that I got from Spain. But I also work with a variety of other plants that I find here. They are not nearly as good as willow, but it's fun to gather your own material.
Such a perfect work!
Many thanks :)
Im so glad your tutorials are back ❤❤❤ such a generous amount of information calmly and slowly explained. And you do not edit misstakes. I like that!!!
Happy to hear that :) Thank you! Sometimes I thing my explanations are too slow though. And it's hard to edit out all the mistakes since there are so many of them 😅

Tôi thích video này của bạn 🇻🇳
Can you suggest a mail-order source for willow?
In th US and Canada not really. But in Europe maybe. Where are you from?
@@Basket_Case_1 San Francisco.
@@sparkyheberling6115 Unfortunately I don't know of any willow suppliers in the US. Did you try asking on facebook us based groups?
@@Basket_Case_1 I don’t use Facebook. But this area has a lot of arts & crafts, so I’m sure there are resources here.
@@sparkyheberling6115 I too am not on facebook
Thank you very much. Sorry there is no translation...
wow ,I can see how a person could get mixed up easily.. I really liked the one to the inside... lovely finished look :)
So good to have you back!
👍👍👍
That is very nice
Hello again from the West Coast of Canada. Thanks a lot for taking your time to make these videos! You have explained the answers to many questions I have regarding the borders! I grow several varieties of willow here on my property and enjoy working with it. What is the material you are using here? Great for demonstrating! I have watched many videos from Eastern Europe and see the border work but usually it is never explained as you have done! I will be watching all of your videos .. likely more than once.. and learning from you! Thanks Jake.. :)
Hello to you, and greetings from Israel. Glad to learn my work is appreciated. In the video I'm demonstrating using reed, aka center cane, aka rattan. Indeed a great material for demonstrating/ practicing. What varieties do you grow? Are you working with them mostly as brown willow (dried but not pilled)?
@@Basket_Case_1 Hello, I like the idea of Rattan in the round because of the consistency and length. I have never tried it. Igrow some purpureas ,rubens and a korianagi.. I also have a few different wild willows here and grow hazel. I have tried it brown and white...also I have made tools to split and skein the rods..I have sold some rods but not baskets... it is my hobby.
This is beautiful, and making me want to try. I now want a giant willow tree stand.
Many thanks my friend.
Thank you :) Happy to read that.

@@isminurarslan3060 This pilled willow, known as buff willow, I bought from a supplier. So it's already been dried. I soak it around 3-4 hours, depending on the length, and after soaking I leave wrapped-up inside a wet cloth for the night.
You are an excellent teacher! I see it takes a lot of hand strength. Thank you for making these videos.
Thank you very much. This stage indeed requires some strength, but it's easier when working with shorter and thinner rods.
Strong
Beau travail
Thank yo very much :)
So glad to see your fabulous videos from THE master craftsman - hope you’re well best wishes , Marc
Thank you so much Marc. I don't know about master craftsman, but I did my best to deliver clear informative tutorials :)
Very informative videos ! Thank you 😊👍
Thank you for reposting!
I have just watched your video here. This is a great discussion. Thank you for posting.. I am english canadian so I had to use the translation ..It works ok :)
Wow, I never thought anyone outside Israel would ever watch this. Happy to know you've found it useful :)

Thank you so much :) Glad to know my tutorials are of use to non English speakers as well.
Hello, I‘m so happy to see that you posted videos again! (Or am I wrong, that you are the one who had another channel, I think under the name „online basketry“?) Greetings, Sue
Thank you Sue :) Yes, you're right. I had another channel which I've deleted. But recently I felt that it's a shame my videos aren't published. I put a lot of work making them.
@@Basket_Case_1 I can’t tell you how much I learned from these videos when I started basket making. I think it is about 3 years ago that I startet with rattan baskets and your videos. A year later I changed to willow. About 6 months ago I wanted to come back and see the „braided border video“ and it was gone. Sure, there are many other videos in UA-cam to teach this, and I managed to weave a braided border, but none of them is so detailed and so much information like yours. So I started searching for you in the internet, UA-cam, instagram,… On Sunday one of the videos popped up in my UA-cam feed! And I am so happy! I also learned a lot by looking at the pictures of your baskets on your website. They are gorgeous! Do you also have a new website? Best wishes, Sue
@@susannet7196 Happy to learn how much my work is appreciated. I've deleted my website, along with all of my social platforms. At the time, I just wanted to disappear...
@@Basket_Case_1 Sorry to hear that. Sometimes life is mean to us. I wish you all the best for your future, Sue
62 year old Canadian man here. I am happy that you are here doing this for us that have the interest.. weaving is very therapeutic! :)
Please keep doing those videos there aren't too much on the web, thanks!!! ❤
Thank you :) The videos are actually pretty old. I haven't made a video in a while now. But still have a lot to upload. Perhaps I will make some new ones in the future. I have some cool ideas.
@@Basket_Case_1 thanks! ❤️
Very well explained...Vielen Dank !!!
Thank you :) Sometimes I feel that my explanations are too slow and boring...
Well, I have bought my willow as it is. But I know they are harvested by machine, then boiled for some time, before going through a machine that takes off the bark. And then sorted into different lengths.
Thank you very much!
These are willow branches.
That basket is amazingly uniform! How did you get willow branches all the same diameter? I'm working with Muscadine and that almost never has two vines alike.
I get all of my willow (and other type of branches) thoroughly sorted. I actually have a video about it, along with other things one needs to know before beginning working with willow. It is an introduction to this beginners course. I will try to upload it soon.
Beautiful basket!
Hello my friend, I turned off the website. I am planning to upload all the lesson to UA-cam. I've uploaded some already. When I'll be in the right mood I'll upload many at once. Stay tuned...
