A Montana Whitetail Hunt | Hi-Line Hunter
A short video of this years whitetail buck. It was a quick rifle season, tagging out two hours into my first hunt. Couldn’t be happier with this deer. Thanks for watching.

Hunting Whitetail and Mule Deer in Montana

After a long and unsuccessful archery season I had to test my luck during rifle. My brother drew a non-resident deer tag, so we had two tags to fill in one weeks' time.

Hell yes we have good WT!
@@We_Dont_Miss I’d have to agree!
What happened with your shots? Should swap to the 6.5 PRC. You'll flinch less and it's awesome on our prairie. Awesome buck!
@@ajdube9967 this 300 has a heavy barrel so it’s easy to shoot, no flinching. Two bullets were an inch apart behind the front shoulder. The third was high just below the spine. I panicked a little after he didn’t go down, so that was probably a rushed shot. One of the bullets that hit a rib didn’t exit and traveled along the inside of the hide into the back leg. I’ve had issues with the way these bullets expand and how they react after impact, not a fan so I just switched ammo.
Beautiful deer, you said 300 mag what is your scope setup?
Optic is an Arken SH4 6-24, considered more of a budget optic but I really like the accuracy of the turret system and the glass is great as well. For this hunt I used Federal Premium Berger -185gr, but I haven’t liked the way it reacts inside the body cavity so I just switch to Hornady Superformance SST
Congrats man pretty dear
@@JaredSerigne thanks!
I have never understood why they do keep cattle on their when they have active Hunting going on that makes no sense
Stud buck
Awesome video
Good lookin white tail! Miss you guys!
Thanks bro, hope all is well!
Awesome video
Awesome video!
You have some awesome content. I have no idea why you do not have more people subscribed.
@@kevinmartin2096 thank you. I appreciate that
Arken scopes are awsome
I haven’t had any issues with mine. So far so good!
Great job putting the smack down on that whitey!
Something about this buck is just so pretty, hes just perfect. Congrats on a beautiful deer!
@@justjordan2262 thank you!
Great job man. Hunting in the flats is tricky for sure.
It’s not easy but I love the challenge
Good area to hunt!
It certainly has produced over the years
I don’t care if you hunt private land, you’re bragging about hunting public land locked land that public can’t hunt. What an ass hole.
that mean public that is surrounded by private?
@@ethankovars9520yes, land locked means there is a section of public land that isn’t accessible from a public road.
If you want to hunt land locked public land, knock on some doors and make some phone calls. It’s really that simple. And besides, this buck was shot on state land which was accessible from a public road. Feel free to reach out to me if you need help learning how to access those types of areas.
Imagine that… be an adult and talk to a old farmer and get access… funny how folks think its so hard… its basically spoon fed these days with onx for owner info
@@lockgessnerI’ve had more positive encounters than negative when reaching out to land owners. Most of then are just happy to have someone to have a conversation with.
Let him grow
@@To_Anywhere not a buck I would normally take, but given the circumstances last year I was happy with that buck.
3 shots 1 deer at first? Luck you did not wound animal
3 shots? My brother (3rd year hunting) missed one shot on that mule deer. I shot twice on a buck a couple days later. Not sure how I missed the first shot, but those things happen when hunting. Too many videos out there that don't show the truth about what happens during a hunt. Not everything goes according to plan.
This is why we can't grow anything big around here anymore.
Im not the reason you can’t shoot big deer
@@hi-linehunter3986 I didn't say I can't. It's why you cant
@@hi-linehunter3986 wouldn't shoot a deer that small on the last day of the season
@@jasonerickson947 we all hunt for different reasons. Sorry you have to measure success by the size of the antlers.
Congrats looks like a army scarf
Thanks, and you are correct, miilitary surplus' finest haha
Love these films. Very relaxing and interesting
Keep doing what you’re doing always don’t let anyone tell you otherwise
Great hunt couple of bucks down.
Thanks. It was a tough year but we were able to make it happen.
Looks like you shouldn’t be shooting at 400 plus yards either.
Well I do practice at distances greater than 400, usually not a hard shot for me. Not every shot is perfect when it comes to hunting. The first shot was just over his back, from the cameras perspective it looked bad but the camera was about 70 yards to my rear side.
You were 0 for 3. Your neck shot missed by a foot as well.
@@Pathfinder76 I shot twice killed him on the second shot so 1 for 2. The second shot I didn’t play windage hence the neck shot. Not my best shooting but he did die quickly, that’s just how it goes sometimes.
you hunt down on pugslys?
I've never been,, how's the hunting over there?
I see the sweet grass hills in the back ground. My dad and I have been having great luck near Bynum this year
great job!
Head over to Sidney next year and we will go after some big mulies
he's too young, nice rack next year... or two.
Pass. Let it live!

I was stationed at Holloman AFB Alamogordo NM Jan 1975-August 1976. I was a crew chief on F-4D Phantom jets. Visited White Sands a couple of times while I was there. Have a photo of White Sands that I took sitting on my desk. A beautiful place no doubt!
Beautiful !
Stumbled across your video. Great buck. Great video.
Thanks!
What are you a gay fish?
Solid work
What is the gadget for?
That’s a flasher. “Fish radar”. Shows where your tackle is and where the fish are.
Sir you like murder
Just found your podcasts! Keep them coming!
I have never fished before, I didn't know they had such great tech for ice fishing
yeah the electronics are pretty awesome nowadays. Certainly helps when you're sitting over one hole, wondering if there is anything down there
Congratulations. Wife and I tagged out up on the highline opening week
Awesome congrats!
I did a 5 day Montana pronghorn archery hunt last week. Got to 98 yds. Did 20 stalks and never got to draw my bow. Where I was we couldn’t hunt water because of the amount of water and rainstorms that came through
Tough break, yeah spot and stalk was pretty tough this early in the season. The decoys would work much better later In September. Hopefully you can get back out next season and give it another shot.
@@hi-linehunter3986 hopefully. I live in Montana but with school and my dad working we don’t always have much time to take off. And it’s a 6 hour drive over to where we hunt so it’s kinda hard to be a weekend warrior
@@winterwolf13 yeah that's a haul, hopefully you can make it back out and give it another shot
Just left your neck of the woods at noon. Would love to have met up for a hike with ya. I had afew great hikes myself last 2 days up there
Great Job, Spikes are the best eating Elk. For a Bowhunter there's nothing better than seeing the Bull you just shot tip over. Way to go.
Thanks! Yeah after so many years of not getting one I wasn’t going to pass on a spike
Stud buck 👊🏻
Good stuff man…new subscriber 👊🏻
Thanks man! Followed back 👍🏻
@@hi-linehunter3986 appreciate that 👍
I picked you up from Instagram.
Thanks for the follow brother 👍🏻
left alot of that backstrap on the carcass, made the cut way too far back.
You’re not seeing the whole butcher process. I picked that thing pretty clean. Any cuts that weren’t large muscle groups went into the burger bag. Only meat that was left behind was a small amount of shoulder meat that was destroyed from the bullet and bone fragment.
@@hi-linehunter3986 good to hear mate
