Using the WEN 40 Volt Cordless Chainsaw
I purchased this WEN 16" cordless chainsaw to trim limbs before running them through the chipper. I found that it's quite capable of cutting trees up to 14". All the hard, thick holly tree firewood sticks you see in the video were cut with this saw. I've also felled a few medium size trees. It's been well worth the $160 purchase.

Digging Up Stumps with the Harbor Freight Trencher: Volume Two

More stump-digging action with the Harbor Freight backhoe and trencher. I sprayed this cluster of annoying hedges with Roundup about a year ago which makes this dig a little easier.
Digging Up Stumps With The Harbor Freight, Central Machinery Backhoe: Volume One

After literally cutting down hundreds of small to medium trees on our recently acquired property that was abandoned and terribly overgrown, it's now time to dig up some stumps.
Working With The Harbor Freight Backhoe

My Harbor Freight backhoe was delivered a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm getting used to the controls and maneuvering to help me clear the property.

    DONT GET ONE OF THESE- you will spend hours and back breaking work, just to switch to tow to work and back again - that is a days work . Terrible design

    You are digging too close to the stuff for such a small piece of equipment

      Isn't it funny how some genius always shows up to tell you how to do it AFTER it's been done?

    If you have more to do and cut the tree 4 or 5ft above the ground you will be able to remove the stump with much less digging.

    I've been looking for an accessory thumb. The one I bought from the towable vendor was 'under engineered' and built from really soft steel: aka failed miserably. Can you tell me about yours?. It looks robust. Thanks.

      I picked mine up from Amazon for about $150. It's very thick and beefy with sharp teeth for gripping. I've used it to pick up HUGE stumps as well as 16"-plus logs. I love it! Here's the Amazon link, www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0732SFZQ4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Thanks for visiting.

    Add some gussets on the outriggers. They will be breaking before long. I have dug up many with mine. It will pay for itself instead of paying for a stump grinder .

    A caution. It has the power to rip the bucket apart and break most pieces of the machine. And watch the upper boom cylinder. It can hit the boom and bend the shaft, which ruins the cylinder. You were approaching the curl force that will break the bucket.

    • @mimosamodern

      I appreciate the caution, but I've dug up HUGE stumps with this thing with no failure issues yet.

    Appreciate the video. Often you will see forestry or construction folks put down folks using low cost small equipment to dig up tree stumps. Small size backhoes, even this standalone model, can do a lot of work for you. Even tractor-mounted backhoes may not be designed to dig out stumps but they certainly can do the job. Backhoes will take longer than a dozen or large excavator so be patient. Good to see the little tool getting some work done too!

    For me there is something very satisfying about seeing the stump move a little after I've been digging around it. That's when I know, "I got it!". 😁

    how comfortable is this thing to run?

    • @mimosamodern
      @mimosamodern Рік тому

      I guess that depends on your size. I'm about 5'11" and it's comfortable for me. I don't have to stretch my arms too far to the point that I feel I'm leaning forward. Although the seat isn't hi-back, it's comfortable enough for me. I suppose it's comparable to sitting at a desk and writing or seating at a table to eat. I've seen some people extend the levers for more comfort but this works for me, at least right now. One issue people might have is bouncing around when working with heavy material. It doesn't bother me, in fact I think it's kind of fun. But it might be annoying for some people.

      The problem I had with the cylinders blead down 2 of them did that but it was a easy fix took them apart and tightened the nut on inside and they worked perfectly after that

  • @DoubleMFarmHomestead
    @DoubleMFarmHomestead Рік тому

    Well done!!! The more you use it the easier it gets. I see it didn't take you long to figure out the best way to pull something out is with the bucket curl instead of the boom or dipper lift. Took me several jobs before I did. LOL

      I also plan to go and switch the hoses for the boom like you did. I have the same problem with it seeming backwards.
