This must have been a big win for Federer on his worst surface. This was prior to Coria's Roland Garros meltdown and he was beating everyone on clay at the time.
Robot Terminator 06 Federer, I was a privileged boy to watch tennis that year. I honestly believe the greatest hard court/grass court player of all time, if 06 Fed had a time machine to 2024 he'd destroy every single player on tour and win all 4 slams, and it wouldn't even be close. That year if 19 year old Murray and Nadal weren't on tour, he would have not even lost a single match for the entire year, that year he had a record 12 ATP singles titles.
Ivan´s technique is so beautiful to watch
Any more videos from 2005/2006 would be great!
One of many Federer 's forgotten matches
Famous Ljubicic backhand that he taught Federer later when Neo Federer was born :)
Later that year , Mirnyi took revenge at Us Open , 4th Round, against Roger....
later in his career, Roger trashes mirnyi
This Fed kid may not go far. Loopy strokes, lazy legs, poor attitude. If he makes his strokes more compact, improve his movement and correct his demeanor he might win more. Maybe his older opponent may teach him something down the road. Time will tell.
What are talkin garbage. A few month later he was showing us to be goat
What is 'hapschmitz!'?😂
Someone in the crowd was shouting “hop schwyz” (“go switzerland)
This was Federer before ROGER FEDERER!!
That was the match that changed Federer’s career. He said that in his commencement speech at Dartmouth University. Some word by Gaudenzi were important so Roger could change his behavior and mindset to become a more focused tennis player. Roger was a very tempered kid just like Kyrgios and Mcrenroe.
Anyone else think this court is pretty quick for a clay court?
Yeah that's why Roger was so good in Hamburg tbh (4 titles I think)
Thanks for posting this, I have fond memories of watching Coria on clay, and young fed too! what a gem
Gaudenzi's backhand ugliest shot ever
Very, very rare footage but Ljubicic's game is so ugly...
I find it hilarious when someone plays against GOAT ( to me ) with their guns blaring but still gets obliterated. I miss Mr. Federer tremendously.
Que lindo era el tenis
This dude was incredible One of the most athletic and entertaining tennis players ever I don’t care if he never won a slam he’s a legend to me
same, his backhand slice was such a signature move to me; tried to imitate it back in the days
he won 20 slams
He deserves to win Grand Slam and massively promoted the sport in Asia. There's only been a few players to do that like Michael Chang, Li Na, Nishikori and this guy.
Being athletic and doing splits doesn't mean anything in tennis if you're heavy footed, which is exactly what's happening in this match.
Paradorn “No Backhand” Srichaphan
lmao ur rigjt
True unfortunately. All Fed was doing was literally serving to the backhand, finish the point.
related to Jack "looking for a backhand" Sock and Steve "I did not come with a backhand" Johnson
Tell me you never watched tennis without actually telling me
Srichaphan reached atp 9 ranking with no backhand, impressive!
Srichaphan…pride of ASEAN tennis
Federer vs his last coach
I did not remember paradorn still playing in 2006.
He stopped playing in 2010, not being able in 2009 to come back from a 1.5 year injury. This match did take place in 2006, after Srichaphan eliminating two players I don't know (Moodie, Ginepri), then Ferrero, Nalbandian, and Nieminen. Had to check that!
@@rosebud3373 thanks for the info!
A true legend. There needs to be more players from Asia competiting at this high level to help promote the sport. He was still playing and top 10 back then and deserves to win Grand Slams but was in the era of Federer Nadal.
@@NamTran-xc2ip Really he wasn't top 10? I thought made top 10 one season. Okay he's at least top 20. Kei Nishikori was top 10. On the women's side they had Li Na, Naomi Osaka and Zheng who just won Olympic gold. All top 10. There was also Michael Chang who was top 10 but he played as American. But this Thai guy was the only one from Thailand. Basically there are almost no Thai tennis players. Tennis is a brutal sport and most countries in Asia don't have big funding to develop tennis players except for China and maybe Japan.
@@NamTran-xc2ipSrichaphan was highest at number 9 on ATP but not at the end of the year. He was in the top 16 for a few years.
Mark Walberg played professional tennis?
Its known that in the handshake, Gaudenzi told Roger "dont worry kid, one day you´ll have 20 Grand Slams, an own brand and even an own event. And you know what? I´ll be the ATP CEO".
I dont think, he sayed that, because Federer was already better player.
People forget that Coria was one of the best dirt ballers around, but Roger mastered every surface nd only Nadal keot him from winning a few French Opens.
Federer’s clay game is under appreciated due to Nadal’s domination. If not for Nadal Federer could have had at least 2 Grand Slams (all 4 in the year)
When the masters 1000 finals were played in 5 sets.
What did he ever win coria hiw hell can you compare him to nadal
Hamburg Masters is probably famous and well-known for those cable shadows across the court!
Gaudenzi fh is solid, backhand is also pretty good.
his backhand has no depth.
@@thebigmonstaandy6644His bh is beautiful. Honestly, Fed had such an incredibly difficult era to play in. Gaudenzi was not only a top 10 level potential but was such a great guy he became ATP CEO
@@bradleydavis9502 so. you think Gaudenzi is better than Sinner or ALcaraz?
@@thebigmonstaandy6644 Absolutely not! But I do think on a faster court Roddick and Safin would give Alcaraz and Sinner a run for their money. They were excellent players!
@@bradleydavis9502 Not Roddick and Safin played only 2 grand slam matches against Federer during his prime. so you cant count Safin
No he visto a nadie jugar a tenis como Federer.
Coria one of the all time greats. Coria was like Nadal. The two are almost identical in greatness. Federer had amazing competition
Are you trolling? Or perhaps an Argentinian fan?
@@alanchong7513 Coria was an established top 10 player with an excellent serve. Remember the Rome final in 2005? Coria and Nadal fought for 5 hours! Federer had the pantheon of greats like Coria, Hewitt, and Roddick to deal with. Just incredible durability.
@@bradleydavis9502Dude, Coria is an excellent player. But he's not really considered one of the greats. It is a shame he never won a major. It's in tennis history that that French Open eluded him. I hope he has been able to move past that. That final changed two people's lives.
@@alanchong7513 I agree, Coria was primed to be a multi grand slam winner and Gaudio ripped his heart out. Gaudio also gave Federer problems if my memory serves me correctly.
@@bradleydavis9502 I seem to recall Gaudio getting bagelled. Was that during the ATP Finals? I like Gaudio. In that French final, he was getting a lesson then later on he's in a real dogfight and enjoying the moment! A famous French final.
Hubiese quedado a nada.
